Copying is *NOT* stealing! It's "Copying". I've copied all my DVDs to computer to make it easier to watch them and keep the origial DVDs safe. Does that make me a thief? Nope. If I walked into a library or video store and stole a DVD or VHS then that is theft.
It's quite simple, you'd think they'd get it right more often.
Create a sort of meta-CPU that can be self-programmed to emulate other processors. Transmeta where close.
That way it wouldn't really matter what processor a program was complied for. Is such a thing feasable? Or am I showing how little I know about CPUs here?:)
This reminds me of this picture. It's from the Viking-1 lander and shows the effects of duststorms.
I had always imagined the storms to be like thick fog on Earth, but it seems you can still see clearly to the horizon. I does affect light levels a bit but likely not enought to prevent a lander from getting some charge.
Hehe, I was watching a SECAM signal two days ago from the Atlantic Bird satellite at 5W. It's HORRIBLE. Even a slight bit of ghosting will mess up the colour. Not to mention the colour resolution is very low. NTSC is better. I've read that even in countries that use SECAM (France mainly) they use PAL for all there production. It's only ever converted to SECAM at transmission.
On another note.. has anyone noticed that different colours can appear to be at different distances? On a few TV's with teletext the colour blue always appears to be deeper into the screen than red.
Could just be my eyes, or the TV. Maybe blue really *is* deeper in the screen?
*shrugs*
My goodness, it's Christmas day and I'm talking about television standards!
You may want to clarify that you want to get rid of the Open Sound System OSS, not Open Source Software OSS;) I am pretty certain that 2.6 won't be the death of the latter OSS.
For one, they've apparently made a lot of changes to IE that will make it less of a pain in the ass to use.
Biggest pain for me (as a non-IE user anyway) is that they *STILL* haven't added proper PNG transparancy support! Every other browser on the planet handles it fine, even IE on the Mac.
It's not like it's a big secret everyone's hiding from MS:)
One DVD, the UK version of 'The Contenders: Series 7' even had a whole unskippable advert for the now deceased Film Four
The X-Men DVD also has unskipable adverts. I ended up making a copy without the ads. It's sad to think that copied movies can be of a higher quality than the official DVD.
Sample the music from existing P2P services, order the CD's you like from online store and rip to high quality Ogg/MP3/etc... Just as quick, they profit, you get better sound quality and no silly DRM.
There is the matter of intentionally corrupted discs, but so far I've not met one yet that one of my CD-ROM's could not read.
Hiding your video in flash is the latest greatest way to stop people from stealing your video
Have the browser/viewer download the movie via a local HTTP proxy then just copy the URL from the logs. Handy for getting quicktime movies. Not sure if that would work with a flash embedded movie.
That shift has forced the NSA to seek new ways to gather intelligence -- including tapping undersea cables, a technologically daunting, physically dangerous and potentially illegal task.
Hmmm... didn't one of those undersea cables recently have a number of failures recently? Concidence?
charge huge licensing fees for anyone who talks TCP/IP
I really doubt they could do that even if they wanted to, thankfully. They didn't create TCP/IP and I do not believe there are any patents on the protocol they could buy.
If it *does* happen then maybe we'll see IPv6 gain acceptance after all;)
Personally, the one thing I hate about DVDs is region coding
Not being able to skip adverts is another thing.

It's already done and is called hyperthreading.
Hyperthreading is just a way to squeeze a bit more performance out of a CPU. It itself has nothing to do with the instruction set.

I setup a small computer today with 2.6. It boots from an initrd but I noticed during bootup the kernel will pause for a few seconds with:
checking if image is initramfs...it isn't (no cpio magic); looks like an initrd
I couldn't google much info on it. Anybody know more about it? Or how I can stop the kernel checking for it.

(The image has had it's contrast enhanced)

if you encode your Ogg to reasonable quality (500Kbps)
500Kbps is not reasonable! It's pure overkill.
Commodore 64!
(spooky to think that this processor alone has more memory than that entire computer!)
Learn to spell kthx

Do I get a cookie?
Why would you download all of the trailers, when you can simply purchase the movies
:)
The trailers where arguably better than the movies
Hehe, this could be the most expensive fake-UFO picture ever!
Great stuff!! I was hoping the camera would capture Mars in the background tho.
Beagle 2 wasn't funded by ESA either, they just piggybacked for the trip.
You sure? I'm sure I remember them saying ESA give them about 5 million on the documentary they've been running on BBC Two these past few nights.
It was on quite late, I may have imagined it!

Eep! Good point!
er.. Go ALSA!

but my point is that the quality of bugs has been pretty high lately - Linus
;)
We have bugs... but at least they are *high quality* bugs! Take that Microsoft
(Congrats to all the developers for 2.6! Looking forward to getting rid of OSS and ide-scsi!)

When combined, these cubes can form various deadly weapons!!
Be afraid!

it probably sends signals over the Internet
What if they are not on the internet? If they are getting a free PC, there is a good chance they are not.
I'm of to play my Pretendo Gamecube on my 22" fony TV...
Yes, you can use Linux and other "free" operating systems, but the concept of Linux, and it's "unaccountability" scares most small business owners
... because as we all know Microsoft or Apple are completly "accountable" for any errors or damage there OS causes...
Yes
