Well, Linus has managed to inspire and lead a large team of developers for many years now... Which is reportedly a bit like herding cats.
He has had "famous bad days" where he created seemly needless controversies, however, but still I am confident that, under his leadership, the Linux kernel will continue to grow and evolve.
I work in the "retention department" (as you call it) for the service department of a medium-large touristic company.
A large part of my job lately has been to weed out the deadbeats that think that they can get away without paying (justified) late charges. This also applies for other cases, like people wanting refunds after a no-show reservation or people trying to get free upgrades via constant nitpicking complaints.
Of course, exceptions exist, and I authorize several each day, but some people think they can get away without late charges on their yearly maintenance fees when they pay late every single year.
And yes, when these deadbeats complain to the ARDA or the BBB I just show their payment histories for the last 5, 8, 12 years and we usually get a favorable ruling.
I got a Sony Walkman NW-E005F for christmas from my tech-impaired dad... I actually makes me want an ipod...
The software (Sonicstage) is dismal, I cannot add or change songs unless I do it through that software, it just doesnt work with USB 1.x and, unless you let it, it will try to convert all the mp3's in your hard drive to ATRAC files...

Yeah, but that one was multiple layers of paper and glue and, while still not very good, it was cheap and better at protecting a footsoldier than what you imagine.
The link is actually about the unsuccessful punitive expedition mounted by the US military to aprehend Villa, but Wikipedia doesnt have a page on the original attack by Villa, who was angry at the USA after they first offerred support and then withdrew it.
From a concerned parent to another, here's my Open Source Playing-Dough recipe:
-1 cup Flour. -1/2 cup Table Salt. -2 tablespoons of Cream of Tartar -1 o 2 tablespoons of cooking oil. -1 cup of hot water. -vegetable coloring.
Mix until you get the desired results... You can give it to your kids, its non-toxic and the salt in it ensures that no one will want to eat too much of it.

I could suggest the Motorola C116...
No camera, no games, no color screen... But it has great reception, nice UI, a battery that lasts a week, and is small enough to fit my pocket (but not small enough to get lost easily)
Well, probably after they lose this case they will pay congress again to make DMCA, part 2 which will force sites to get complete user identification before said user can post content.
One more step in the slippery slope that leads to an orwellian surveillance society.

Well, anyway, to make this comment less useless let me tell you that during a timeshare presentation, the sales staff will very likely:
1.- Make wildly extravagant claims about the capabilities of the membership in question.
2.- Make every effort to get you drunk before you get to see the contract.
3.- Appeal to your ego or even subtly insult you if you say it's too expensive. (In one case, a salesperson turned to the guys wife and asked: "Why did you marry such a cheapskate? He doesnt want to take you on vacation!")
4.- Gosh! some will even flirt with you if you are of the opposite sex (or if they think you're gay).
All of this, and much more, in order to get a sale.
Software sales? Bah! I work in the tourism industry and I really don't know evil sales tactics unless you have gone to a timeshare presentation in the last couple of years.
The HDTV market share is rising and a significant rate and will continue to do so until it is the dominant format. There is no doubt in anyones mind that HDTV will eventually be the dominant format. As the HDTV market share increases so will the desire for peripherals capable of High Definition output. Secondly the difference between "true gamers" and casual gamers shrinks every year, but that is just an opinion (from a casual gamer) so take it how ever you like.
Here's where I disagree with you... The HDTV market share will increase, yes, but it's still several years away from becoming the dominant format, and a lot of people still watch TV on 15 year old Trinitrons, with no incentive to upgrade.
True critical-munchkins use Falchions

Oh yeah! Mod this up!
Bionic Commando was such a challenging-but-still-fun game!
So that means he'll run for his life and end up being killed in Mexico City? I don't think so!

Well, if you count a single raid by a Revolutionary Guerrilla, then Mexico invaded the USA once: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pancho_Villa_Expediti on

Well, with the ammount of money spent on the reconfiguring, it is likely that not being able to buy equipment is not the reason.

am still happy with my Duron 1300...
Well, YMMV, but everybody at my office makes HEAVY use of the shared calendaring feature.
In many countries the different bills are different sizes, no way to easily defeat this.
