Sounds like money well spent. The site's not even linked from TFA yet jboss.org won't respond to page loads. Very confidences inpiring from a web technology company.
It has officially begun. April 1st has hit in some timezone that the editors were paying attention to. For the next 24 hours slashdot is completely worthless.
I love the author's impliciaction that The revolution's 729MHz PPC is somehow going to be slower than the 733MHz Celeron that runs the original XBox (and the silent implication that the 3-way 3.2GHz chip in the 360 is meaninffully comparable to either of these on clock-speed alone) .
We're dealing with a real technical powerhouse here and he's giving us some insighful hardware analysis.
I have to wonder how much is gained by moving bookmarks and prefs from plain text files (HTML & JS) to SQLite's binary file format. It's not like their bits of data that need complex searches done on them.
What about all the kids that have their 'rents pay for 'em?...not to mention that the credit card companies are pushing for parents to get cards for their children.
The problem is that, with a broken bootloader, you can't really 'bypass it'. The bootloader, by definition, is the first thing that runs. If it's broken, there's nowhere to put the logic to do anything else. Maybe if the PC had a more usable firmware than the BIOS we're stuck with, you might have some recovery route, but the way the platform is set up, you have no alternatives.
I wouldn't mind some massive inflation right about now - I have $60k in student loans with a fixed interest rate on repayments & no significant investments or assets.
You've got me on that - if they're seriously & heavily invested in the market, I've not been exposed to it. The fact remains that Oracle doesn't have much publicity as a major player in the market.
It's not that I didn't think of Oracle as being involved, I just figured them as more of a infrastructure/platform vendor. I've been exposed to a fair bit of Oracle stuff but it's always been in the DB/dev tools world.
It seems illogical to compare TCO of SAP, an established ERP platform, with Oracle, a Database that's in the process of buying the pieces to start their own ERP suite. Maybe in another 5 years when Oracle has their product line put together it would make sense to compare the two.
Even at that, in the Enterprise market, where 'quality' is judged by 'longevity', Oracle's going to be at a major disadvantage.
It's been covered before but there are plenty of reasons to argue against this. One is that, if you allow the sale of in-game items the in-game items aquire value. If the items are of value, you open the possibility of getting sued every time you nerf an item or rollback a server.

Despite what some people say, they are within their rights to sell the features they do
Few will say they're overextending their rights. Many will say they're taking unfair advantage of clueless users.

ties are dead here in Seattle anyway
That's _almost_ enough to get me to move back.
Why not just use a 16-character filename on an empty file?
Imagemagick, music players and BitTorrent clients? What kind of system administration is going on here?
On the flipside of the coin, nobody wants to hire workers that don't have 5 years of experience.

If the site get's /.ed, check here for more information on the performance benefits of running Gentoo.

Exanimus is expected to be rated "Mature" and not intended for anyone under the age of 18.
If they can enforce this, I'll definately start playing.
What's the point of bringing that up during the Oscars? Does anyone watch the damned thing that isn't already a fairly dedicated moviegoer?

If you're running a real application inside a web browser and not just a web site, what sense does the back button really make?
Not sure if this should be modded "funny" or "redundant" for being so obvious...
...at least they're not using Excel.
They can't stop drugs, poverty, crime or terrorists, what makes you think they can stop black market DVD players?
if only I could use modpoints in topics I've posted in...
Ifby the age of 16, your daughter hasn't been exposed to the idea of manipulating men with sex, she's led a painfully sheltered life.
