  1. Mature on Massachusetts Bids To Restrict Internet Indecency · · Score: 5, Insightful
Rather than try and dumb down the internet to what is suitable for 8-year-olds, I would rather raise children to be mature and handle adult content.

The irony here is regardless of some law, young kids see crazy hardcore sh*t on the internet every day. So I guess I'm revising my first sentence to say that I would rather raise the maturity of adults to cope with the fact that kids can handle adult content.

I agree with you, but in this day and age I can't seem to go two days without some website asking for personal information. Whether I'm signing up for paperless billing from the electric company or ordering a pizza from papajohns.com. I don't use my real info whenever I can, but I couldn't tell you how many companies have my home address or phone number

  5. Infinite Resources on RIAA's Tenenbaum Verdict Cut From $675k To $67.5k · · Score: 5, Insightful

The real problem here is that computer data (here referring to song files) is the only truly infinite resource that has ever existed on the planet. A digital copy of a CD could be copied an infinite number of times without any loss of quality. How do you regulate that? It would be like if you had a device that cloned Ferraris and with the push of a button you created a dozen perfect Ferraris out of thin air for you and all of your friends. The guy who owns a Ferrari dealership is going to be pissed, but you didn't do anything to him. You didn't take anything from him. You can't erase file-sharing from the planet. The technology exists, so there must now be a new model of business and new rules by which to regulate it.

uh... one of those things is not like the other... I question the validity of any site that thinks gallons and liters are interchangable

Not really. Both statements are true.
From estimates I've gathered around the web, the total amount of oil in the gulf is around 140 million gallons, or 530 million liters.
So the well has indeed pumped millions of gallons of oil and millions of liters of oil into the Gulf of Mexico. Is it a huge understatement? Yes. Is it an incompetent factual error? No.

I'm sure someone will complain about how this breaks their Excel spreadsheet or something, but just skip the numbers. It's not hard.
