Lets start with the basics, the listing for the tico are going down hill fast. Here in the UK even the BBC listing are rubbish.
I've told tivo I can find out the correct contact in the BBC so tribune can get a better quality of listing, but they don't give a hoot, and we are left with guide data which is so bad it cannot be used to record programmes.
Can tivo just fix the basic problems before they move on?
Sounds similar to to the good old days of mainframes.
Back in the day boxen were often sold underclocked by 50%, and we would charge a huge amount to "double to speed". Only one problem, a customer spotted an engineer just reaching inside and flipping the switch, and went mental that he had paid $HUGE_AMOUNT for this.
So after that every "upgrade" was a two day job, involving removing many panels and many parts, and making the job look as hard as possible, oh and of course flipping the switch when no-one was looking!
"European Internet provider PlusNet, for instance, announced last week that it would offer broadband service over telephone lines for $31 a month, but it would block users from using popular file-sharing services such as Kazaa and Morpheus."
Web don't call it pusnet for nothing!, it has a history of similar shabby deals, and ripping off consumers. Quoting this as an example means nothing, as NO-ONE in the UK will use them.
Have you ever tried to get support from a big corporate?, all you get is the lowest tech and no chance in hell of a fix.
Compare that with my limited attempts at support in the free software world, every time I get a fix, the last time a couple of hours after daylight hitting the author's TZ I had a new version in my hands!
I would take free support any day, and if I could change corparate culture I would pay them for it
To say that, the NJB is very nice, but its getting old now, and its replacement is due very soon. It makes me wonder why this crap Treo player made it onto slashdot, maybe 2-3 years ago it might have been news, now its just old kit.
4. Thats 90 days *in america*, most of the other bits of the world get 3 years. This is more due to faulty law than anything else. Most of us also have no problem with it, mine's been totally abused and works fine.
5. If your getting 2 hours, your doing somthing wrong. All the regulars in the nomad groups get 4 hours.
7. Output level is fine for most people, I run it at 11 (out of 20) , anything more is painful.
10. If your still using playcenter, you totally missing the plot.
Theres also the nomad plus points of course, like that new units are 20Gb, 5Gb is just poor, and of course its a normal notebook HD, so upgrading to 30/40/whatevers next is easy as pie.
Do remember that the NJB was a first generation jukebox, the NJB2 will include many of the things that the iPod includes.
Oh and of course, the NJB works on windows and linux.
We have out old colonies that we are tring to prop up (for if we dont they will ask for cash), and you have corrupt politicians taking bags of cash from south american countries.
"I am all for blocking spam. But MAPS isn't about blocking spam, as this/. article points out"
Err, yes it is, the article was just plain wrong in that regard (well in most other regards aswell). Supporting an incorrect assumption based on that assumption is not a good idea.
"Technical people like us know that MAPS is a political organization out to stiffle speech they don't like"
New models have no GPU fan, just a standard size fan on the back. Pick up an urber quiet pc fan from anywhere and replace.

A stupid question, but why doesn't the graphics card power off when the monitor timeout kicks in?
I'm sure my PC could be using a lot less power when its just sat doing nothing.

41= JAMES DYSON £650m Household appliances
His book is really worth a read if you can get hold of it (Against The Odds), the underhand tactics of big business is really eye opening.
Typically customs don't bother with anything under £17 UKP, without checking I think $25 USD falls under that.
coming up next.... how my Tivo caused peace to break out in the middle east.

9.5 MPG!!!!
Anyone stupid enough to drive that should be taken out back and shot, they are just too dangerous to keep in the gene pool.

UK law isn't framed like that, the wording is "fit for any particular purpose made known either expressly or by implication, to the seller "
This means as long as I say whant I want it for, then the law is on my side.
I intend to prewarn all internet dealers I use that I *only* buy for use on a PC, so its upto them to make sure they don't sell me anything different.
Hmmm, this is rubbish isn't it.

Is it just me or do some of those attachments look like concept drawings, not actual hardware.
Just grap a 6Gb NJB, and slip a 40Gb disk in it.
Game Over.

A few corrections to that:

True,
but you also need to read the text of the directive. Not all the parts are mandatory, and some give a choice on the method of implementation.
You need to read it in depth to find its true worth.
Steve
The British invert it.
The Americans sell it.
The Japanese Perfect it.
Story over.....

RE:I've never had a problem with tracks stopping in the middle
There is a problem with bad frames in mp3 tracks causing a song skip, it tends to be from downloads where an error has crept into the file.
Anyone, its fixed in the firmware released today
F
Its just money money money.

>I don't like SPAM, but when an ISP chooses to use MAPS RBL, they're censoring your email for you.
My ISP uses MAPS, it tags the email for me, and even provides filters so I can filter it server side and choose what to do with it.
You were saying?
Nice Troll.
1. It takes shitloads of work to make a RBL nomination that works.
2. Maps does not block maillists, it blocks hosts.

If you do nothing else today, pull out quake and download this.
The QDQ boys have done it again.

You forgot the operating an illigal cartel that conspired to manipulate the market.
"robbing people of remuneration for their time and expense" doesn't quite sound so great any more.
