    I guess so. Not much back up in the article but the headline is sure catchy.

    The situation remains that changing between Linux distributions is like changing your underwear while changing from Windows to Linux (depending on what services you are running) is like a sex change. I know this i've done both. Changed a small server farm between linux distros and changed over from windows to linux that is, not a sex change. I do change my underwear though. I'll just stop typing now....

    The problem with that is the long term side effects of those drugs. If it comes down to a situation where an athlete has to make a choice between taking a performance enhancing drug or losing many will choose to use the drugs while ignoring the consequences.

    Baseball is setting a terrible example for this right now by ignoring rampant steriod use among the players. Kids see their role models in the major leagues using roids and make the decision to use them if it means helping them achieve their goal of becoming a pro baseball player.

    I say in another two years, we'll see Linux reach a critical point and have about 10% of the desktop market share. People were saying that at least 5 years ago when I first started reading /. I'm not doubting that linux is (slowly) gaining momentum. However it might be just me but it seems like 2 years always flys by and people are still chanting the same "linux on the desktop is coming."

    ummm lets see. Many people (including me) used to pay for this type of information by buying gaming magazines in the store. I eventually stopped buying those magazines after I found that I could get the same information a lot quicker online for free.
    Now they want me to pay again execpt this time it costs less, I don't have to walk to the store to get it and it is updated daily instead of monthly.

    No problem. It's less than the cost of two movies for one year of content.

    I forgot to mention its also free and you only need a web browser to play. All they have is some ads that are displayed while you are managing your province.

    I recommend Utopia which is a real time medival based strategy game.
    Game time passes by constantly and it usually requires you to log in twice a day or so to manage your kingdom.

    If you were a fans of the BBS based trade wars will like this game. Its also a good way to meet people since you are playing one province within a kingdom of 25 provinces and you must all work together in order to have a successful kingdom. (most kingdoms have one or two girls in them even) .

    The game runs for a length of time called an age which typically lasts for 3 months. The 13th Utopian age ends tonight and the 14th starts on wednesday so now is a good time to start playing.

    One warning though, serious players have been known to set their alarm clocks for 3 in the morning just to log in and make an attack.

    If they optimize the drivers for quake 3 then they are also optimized for any game built on the quake 3 engine. Optimizing drivers for a game engine is a GOOD thing and IMO is going above and beyond what they normally have to do in order to provide the best experience for their customers.

    A lottery was the most fair way to decide who gets the domain name. First come first serve would have resulted in a bunch of idiots registering names and then selling them off. Even worse would be if NeuLevel had decided to hold an auction for the names.

    A solution was put in place that didn't involve who has the most money winning the rights to the domain, so of course the people with the money have to resort to bringing in the lawyers.

    I don't know what's scarier the fact that someone who has made some intelligent posts in the past succumbs to a silly error like this or the fact that three moderators fell for it also. And people wonder why VC firms have to parachute people in to claim the CEO posistions within startups.

    Losses written down on accquisitions are not monetary losses that come out of your bank account. In the end all that really matters is how much you put in your bank account stays higher than what comes out. Otherwise you had better have some good partners to help you out. When JDS announced a 51 billion loss this past summer do you really think 51 billion came out of their bank account that quarter?? No company would survive that. The loss was mostly due to share devaluations due to their stock aquistion of SDL.

    I also see a reply here which explains it.

    Please moderate the post I have just replyed to accordingly. While it might be interesting, just not in the sense you might think at first, It is definately not insightful.

    You failed to notice the thread title which is "911" or september 11. I'd say the date is dead on.
