  1. Deathmatch or CTF? on Is America Ready For Competitive Gaming On TV? · · Score: 1

As for as "video game sports" go, I think it would be far more interesting to watch a team based scenario like capture the flag. Multiple perspectives, good use of the spectator cam (keep one camera on each flag at all times), good commentary, good production, etc... For a more movie like clip, deathmatch would work, as long as it was first person from the best player's perspective owning everyone ... set to a good musical background... and no longer than 5 minutes.

Sometimes when you take a hunt down # badguys and the game will spawn a few to attack you ... especially noticable when you exit a building or somesuch ... you know its just for you because the enemy levels will be different than the normal zone enemy levels plus they will come straight for you instead of waiting for you to attack them. However, the numbers usually aren't enough to finish the mission and you still have to find more.

  10. Free Publishing, Moderation, Cheap or Free Viewing on Nature Debate on Open Scientific Journals · · Score: 2, Interesting

It seems like a "post for free" electronic only system would be good for research distribution and collaboration. The authors could post (and edit with change logs) their works without having to pay anything. All of the posters/researchers should be verifiably registered of course to prevent random people from screwing with scientific research.

The "weeding out" part could be done by researchers who are interested in the latest reports... and if they find the paper is bunk, they can report it, and if they find it is true, they can say that too. And obviously the reviewers should be able to easily contact the author for minor details that are wrong so they can be corrected.

The more casual readers could perhaps filter out anything that hasn't been reviewed yet. The funding could come from users on a pennies per paper basis for reviewed papers or free if they haven't been independantly reviewed yet to encourage reviewing and account for the lesser value of unreviewed papers.

Anyway, those are my 2 cents.
