I knew it! My faith in Slashdot and Taco have been restored and also I restored the faith to all of you that no one will RTFA! I've once again joined the ranks of people that go off half-cocked and spout out vitriol with only having 1% of the facts. Bravo I say! I'm carrying on a tradition!
Next time, I'll be fully-cocked and won't try to respond to something when I'm half-asleep. I literally wrote that post after being awake for only 2 minutes.

Slashdot's design was by some "doctor" that used feng shui in the design? Who's bright idea was that? Taco been hitting the wacky weed again?
You do all realize that feng shui is just a bunch of bullshit don't you? Sure, it's fun to talk about stuff like that and pretend...as long as you know that it's really just bullshit and don't try to rip people off.
Slashdot, you got taken for a ride my friend. But that's ok! I have some snake-oil here that can CURE you so you don't make that mistake again!
I am so SICK of hearing that. So fricken what? So they're a hardware company. Then maybe they should just stop developing all the software they make and sell, right? I mean, they're a hardware company. Stop development of OSX, AppleWorks, Aperture...stop with the software already! You're a hardware company, because no one believes that you can both sell hardware AND software for some reason. Every time someone talks about your software some robot chimes in with "Apple is a hardware company".
EQ as it stands now is a carebear paradise to when it first started. When I played, (original game, kunark, velious and to a large extent luclin) it was much more hardcore than it is now. Now in EQ it seems that the Devs are listening to the very vocal minority and making the game so easy to get around it's not even funny.
When I played, it was hardcore. No portal stones anywhere...if you needed to get a port you better find a druid or a wizard to port you. No binding NPCs....if you were a warrior or other non-magical class you had to get someone to bind you to a city. If you wanted to get to a new city you had to run....a LONG way. When you started off in Halas, it seemed you were in such a remote area. Now, meh...you just use the gate-stone to go to plane of knowledge and then you could go to any city you want.
They almost lured me back when they came out with the legacy servers...but they lost me again when it was all based on how fast you could rush through the content. The legacy servers should have been original game for a whole year of real time....THEN open up the kunark stuff and wait again for another year...THEN open up velious etc etc. Now it's just being rushed through by the big power levelers and the big guilds. It's been what, 3 months now since those two servers opened up and they're already through Luclin and about to open up the Planes of Power! It's just a race.
People don't seem to get that it's the JOURNEY that's the fun part...not who can get to the end first.
Now, onto WoW...they made the game just to be fun. They're major motto when making the game was "are we having fun with this". Corpse runs are not fun. Running around looking for a rez is not fun. Looking for a group because you just can't solo if you're certain classes is NOT fun. Not being included to a group because you're a certain class isn't fun either. Being that these are all games, they're suppose to be fun and that also means that this persons idea of fun isn't necessarily that other persons idea of fun. You can't be all things to all people. You're idea of how a game should be isn't everyones idea of how a game should be. Blizzard tries to appeal to as many people as it can, but of course it can't please everyone....but that's not realistic anyway because you can't please everyone. It's impossible.
PBS and NPR aren't controlled by the government...it gets funding from the government, but it gets funding elsewhere also, including individual donations, as if you watch or listen there is a lot of people there asking for donations. Last I checked, they only get like about 23% or so from government funding. Does the BBC do donation drives or get sponsorship from corporations? (honestly asking, as I don't know)
Just listen to NPR and you can tell the government has no control over it as it almost calls for the violent overthrow of Bush. Ok, it's not that bad. I'm a die-hard NPR fan btw...and I'm a republican!
The first guy made the weird statement that he was in one of the oldest guilds in the games...but since the game is only 2 years old there are literally hundreds if not thousands of guilds that are just as old as many were started on day one. Since that article didn't elaborate on if he meant the guild was playing on other games, one can only assume.
Now this guy is claiming to have a "Masters degree in policy from one of the most difficult schools in the country".
Is there a hyperbole filter here on Slashdot or what?
They make it seem like he was in the oldest guilds in the world...ever. I skimmed the article but are they talking about guilds going all the way back to MUDs or MUSHs? In fact, I'm in a guild now that has been together since UO through EQ and now in WoW. I personally haven't been in that guild that long, but met up with them in EQ.
So if this guy is talking about one of the oldest guilds in WoW, then I guess the guild I'm in is also one of the oldest as it started up like a half hour after the game went live.
But hey, his article says the same thing that we've heard over and over and over. ANYTHING can be overdone. Take all things in moderation. To all the people that say "get a life", examine your own life and see what you yourself are over indulging in. From couch potatoes to football/baseball fanatics to club-goers to people that play online games....it all can get out of hand if you don't watch it.
It was free and even THEN it's not worth it. Now I have about the quickest high-speed internet connection and yet it still just sits there for a few minutes downloading everything you walk or fly through. Go to a new place, it starts downloading again....forever.....
Ok, so I know it's not all just about how fast your connection is blah blah, but it's a major problem for me as it NEVER feels like you're in another world. It feels like what it is, bad artwork in a bad 3D environment. Fine, but the people that play must really be nice right?
Well, every place I go where I see on the map a lot of people have gathered usually end up just being either virtual prostitution or porn. Or worse, just people sitting in these chairs that generate for them 1 Lindon per hour or something. Just sitting. Or dancing....AFK people sitting and dancing. Wow, fun!
Also, don't know what the point is. It's a chat/social/networking thingy that's laggy and unreal. Ok, so basically a instant messenger with badly made 3D avatars that all look like nymphet women wearing very skimpy clothes that still look unreal. We're talking animations and models that are pre Everquest. I felt like I was in some world that was made 15 years or go or something.
It also didn't seem finished. It felt like a beta of something that was abandoned about 3 years ago and just barely hanging on.
Think you should also differentiate between negative film and slide film. Slides don't have near the dynamic range as negative...which was why when I was shooting trans I would bracket to 1/3 a stop to make sure I got correct exposure. When shooting negative film I could bracket almost a full stop and get good exposures...which is what I do now when shooting and using RAW in digital. Digital doesn't approach the latitude that negative film gave us, but it blows slide film out of the water....in terms of dynamic range that is. Of course, your mileage may vary.
And I said "the White House"...I don't take seriously anything that comes out of it no matter who's running the show there. Democrat or Republican, when they make a statement you can rest assure it's always filled with hyperbole and propaganda to make their side look strong and in charge. It's important to listen to what they say of course, but your BS filter should be working full-time to weed out what's actually being said.
I wasn't attacking the Bush administration per-se...just the White House in general.
the White House apparently confirms a nuclear test.
I usually wait until a legit source confirms it instead of taking anything that comes out of the White House seriously.

From reading all the moronic comments below I thought I was on Digg.com for a moment instead of Slashdot. I had hoped that all the script-kiddies and "l33t d00dz" had gone to Digg, but this proves they're still here at Slashdot.
Oh well, maybe when Web 3.0 comes along they'll leave then.
In a stunning move sure to send ripples across the tech industry, Apple today announced another member to it's Board of Directors. That person? You guessed it: Frank Stallone.
I'd like to see them digitally put cigarettes INTO all the scenes. Of people holding a ciggy now and then. Put nipples poking through the fabric on all the females. Digitally place the twin towers in the city-scape scenes when they go back to old New York...even though they weren't even built. Why not? They're removed from everything else, let's add them in now.
Things like that. Let's do something COOL with the technology.
If you're downloading pictures or.avi or.mpg movies...how can a trojan slip by there? You're not executing a script or a program. Are they using that old.jpg exploit? Hasn't that been patched?
I don't understand how people are falling for this.
NoScript just blocks the javascript...doesn't send it off to somewhere else nor creates any "whitelist". If you're at a site that you need Javascript to run, the little icon down in the lower right hand corner will have a pop-up menu to enable Javascript for that site you're on. You can have it enabled just for that session or permanently.
I've used NoScript now for quite a while and I love it.
My alliance characters are all female because quite frankly, I would rather spend my time looking at a pleasing female form. But contrast that with my horde characters, they're all male. I wonder what that means....other than I spend way too much time playing that silly game.

He put out a CD quite a while ago, like 10 years or something, called "No World Order" that encouraged people to remix it.
Anyone remember that?

Yeah, mod me down as a troll. Everyone loves Real and Realplayer...I'm the bad guy here. How silly of me.
I was hoping that Real would have a nice, slow death and never be heard from again. But now it looks like Mozilla is prolonging the inevitable.
