The ipod isn't just an MP3 player. It also can store your contacts, and appointments, as well as functioning as a portable harddrive as well (the zen can most likely do this too.) So it does a little more in a better package with a better interface. I'd say ipod.
If you found 80% of the people don't care I'd say seriuosly rethink classes.
you could make a cybercafe style setup. But with a few perks such as: card readers, scanners, web, e-mail, etc. Allowing users e-mail photos to loved ones where ever they may be. Games are never bad either for the kids who dont want to go see some sites with mom and dad all day or go shopping all day let them game all day until mom and dad get back.
If you absoulty must do technical classes do more research to find out what people will want or use. What about appealing to other local businesses to train their people to use word, outlook, excel, acces etc?
Its cause Dlink is crap. I had a DI-713p (1 gen) and it would lock up under high traffic aswell. Nothing could fix it but a manual reboot. It also wasn't uncommon to be unable to acces the admin page for no apparant reason.
I will agree with the dlink sucking. I had one and it always locked up on me. I recently replaced it with a Orinoco BG-2000 and zero problems and it runs like a dream. I think it also looks better than many of the other stuff out there. It is a bit more expensive but when it comes to computers and tech you really do get what you pay for.
You may as well buy now. I too am often bugged by the dark scences looking a little bad. But by the time the blue standard is widely adopted you will be wondering if you should wait for ultraviolte or other new technology that will be coming down the pike to store more.
if you spend some extra dough on custom hermeticaly sealed carriers/cases/enclosuers for these devices, be it lexan, aluminum, staneless steel, plastic wrap etc. If you are using tablets and touch screen devices how about using the hardmaterial to cover the bulk of it and a removeable replaceable plastic covering for the screen section (like some cellphone cases). Once you get the equipment back you toss the screen protecor (depening on type) and remove the device from its hermeticaly sealed protecive home and set the device someplace safe and proceed to disinfect the rest in the appropriate manner.
I jsut replaced an older 713p from dlink that always locked up when there was any kind of volume going over the air, once the pcmcia card even worked its way out (prolly from me hitting the damn thing everytime it locked up) foring me take it apart to reseat and it was decently warm in the housing... The replacement is an Ornioco BG-2000
I also replaced a older dwl650 pc card with a a Ornioco Gold card and the Gold card with the Old AP got far better reception that the 650 ever did.
Paying a bit more does pay off. I don't plan on buying dlink, linksys, smc, or other cheap wifi stuff again.
cut a small hole in the enclousure (near or over the hot spot, if it can even be found), big enough for a small ish (think 5-9volt) fan and solder the power leds to the power connection in the AP then attach fan. or dont use a fan and just make some holes to help with the ventelation.
What about one of the sony mavicas that does burn to mini CDs?
There are devices just for sucking the pictures of a CF card and storing them on internal harddrive, some even with screens larger than the cameras for viewing and some even play mp3s as well.
I work for a community college. I doubt they have enough avaiable labs for everyones needs. they are a) for special classes only or purposes. so unless class is in the lab is locked... i think there are some systems for usse in the library but no place near enough. granted the school i work for is pretty sad as far as most things go.
Seriously where can you buy this stuff? I remember looking at this stuff before and then looking for a tablet to buy and none could be found... FIC Aquapad for example I went to FIC and they didn't have it for sale nor did any of their retailers sell it... I think much of that stuff is a) vaporware that vaporised with the bubble b) vaporware that has yet to be finished but will see day light. I am aware some of the products are avaiable but many seem hard to find or get...
let us not forget the sony Clie nx70 line. Wireless slot and a keyboard some with digital cameras. I have one of the older Clies that does not support 802.11b but have loved it the screens look good in low light or day light...
what about the terrapin mine at thinkgeek its got ethernet and USB. Seems ver flexible. only 10gigs though but you maybe able to drop a 20 or bigger into with minor hacking...
its a type of memory card. nothing transmitted just stored. also cald an SD card i belvie panasonic camcorders and digital cameras take them as well as a few other brands...

IBM Ignored them for a while. It didn't do much good.

is it just me or do all the photos fuzzy?
Having to reboot once a night isn't non-stop.
Drop kicked it into the mud while raining out. Why is that bad for them?

I've never seen this from them. but it could be gator or some other nasty adware
just run adaware and remove the spyware/adware thats doing it.
I've never gotten that. And I get mod points once every week or so
What hasnt the internet changed in one way or another.
I know i can type faster than i can write. and I can read it when im done.
