  1. Re:How it works, really on Automatic Scanning for Cameras in Theaters · · Score: 1

The customer review page has the following in it:
This retroreflector stuff works because imagers (with film, CCDs, CIDs, retinas,...) cause incident light to be scattered from the image plane

Erm, maybe I'm understanding things wrong but, doesn't that only work if the reflector (lens element, retina, whatever) is aimed directly at the laser so it presents a perpendicular surface, reflecting the light directly back at the emitter?

When I inprocessed into the US Army in 1989, the immunizations they gave to everyone were administered by medics using what looked and sounded like an airgun.

And yeah, if you flinched, it hurt...I think it had to do with the airstream being angled instead of straight down. The good medics would walk by, tap you on the arm with the tip of the gun to make you flinch, then do it again right after you'd flinched, and fire.

I'm not sure if the air was used to carry the medicine, or just accelerate it. It'd guess just accelerate it, since blowing air under someone's skin strikes me as being unsafe for some reason. }:)

I spent every day this last summer driving through one of the most notorious speed traps in the state of Florida. The speed limits are deliberately set artificially low, and deceivingly so wherever possible. State laws were passed specifically to curb the behavior of this town, and to discourage others. AAA specifically refers to this place as a speed trap, and has even taken out billboards warning motorists that a speed trap is 6 miles ahead. This town actually turns a profit on speeding tickets - completely funds the police department, and money left over. Until the law was passed, in one stretch of road the speed limit went from 65 to 45 back to 65 in under a mile. Why? Flea market. Lots of places for the cops to hide.

Hmmm, sounds like you've been going through Waldo on the way to/from Gainesville. }:)
