I totally agree. They always go on about police have to be respected blah blah blah. I always thought cops should be members of the community they patrol. I am trying to say something here but can not get my point across. I am an Australian living in London. THe police here are much better. They are more even handed and less likely to hand out fines for minor things but to recommended some other form of punishment.
It seems to me he is a bit of a doomsday merchant. While we do have big problems on this planet, i don't think they are irreversable. First thing to do is get the big business serving leaders out of office. I think government should be like jury duty. That would force every one to take notice of issues. The problem with politicians is that the people who go into politics suck arse. But I do think space colonisation is a worth while venture. I'm sure if we made colonisation a goal, some one would come up with a warp drive or something pretty soon. Think how far we have progressed in 100 years.
Intuit is a small company which can not afford the loses. Its primarily a home office type product. Business probably doesn't use it. Whereas as we all know M$ is huge and business uses it. It will be used by banks etc first and they will love it. Then for consumers to use online banking etc we will have to use it. Its inevitable.
Sorry I'm feeling very gloomy about the world situation today.
These sorts of articles are coming out faster and faster everyday. I never used to worry about it but now I am really starting to sweat. Its not just in the US where they are doing it. A lot of comments here say we will move offshore. Where are you going to go. ITs ahpopening in Australia and in Britain. While the majority of the population sleeps throuugh life, getting their news from sources that don't report things like this, they are tightening the screws. 1984 should be mandatory reading.
BTW Guns are not the answer. Peacefully protest is. Do you really think that the citizens of the US could beat the US Defence force.
I think it kicks arse cause its easy to use. I managed to teach both of my parents to use it and they struggle with the remote. Sure there are better programs out there (I like Nero Burning Rom) but this is easy for Luddites.
One of the computers is from 1950 or something. Oz had the 3rd or 4th (or something like that) computer ever. It was one of those big old ones that took a few rooms to house it. It was built at Melbourne University. Thats why they need lots of space.
Hopefully Roxio will sort out a good system. EZ-CD kicks arse so hopefully they can do something like Apple. The biggest problem they have is cost. I think the per-song price needs to be lower. If it was 20-50 cents, I believe you could make it work. I for one would buy. I don't particular like using napster, kazaa etc. With all the broken files and poor quality etc its just a pain but I put up with it cause its cheaper and I can get songs that you can't buy at the local Justin Timberlake/J.Lo store.
Maybe the success of Apple is making the record companies take notice. If Roxio offered competitive pricing and a large back catalogue they could be onto a winner.
I agree with most of the posts here. NASA should have a big unmanned heavy lift rocket and a smaller SHUTTLE for humans. George W should do a speech like JFK and aim for Mars and a permanent base on the Moon. That would stimulate interest in space. Also he could use it to hide other problems in his administration (sorry but there always has to be something in it for the politicians).
If we got to the moon in 69 how far could we get now. It needs to be highly funded to. I can't remember who said it but its a golden quote.
'We are going to the moon in a spacecraft made by the lowest bidder'
We need to get away from that mentallity. Award the contracts on ideas/quality. I'd would mind spending more money on space and less on Defence/Iraq occupation.
THis would be really welcome in Oz, where something ridiculous like 45% of arable land is affected by rising salt. And it would give the farmers an alternative source of income while there land is regenerating. Win - Win
The general thought seems to be that M$ will buy SCO and sue linux. But who are they going to sue. Isn't that the point with linux, no one owns it. They could sue the distributers such as red hat but that won't stop it. Am I wrong in this thinking. If not sue away and see who ends up with egg on there face.
I loved that anti cheating prog for Counter Strike. Can't remember what it was called but u couldn't play on a lot of servers without it. It made the cheaters glow. THat was sweet.
I think thats was pretty influencial as well. IT was pretty much the first chat thing. Thats where I got my first net porn when i was 15. I think it definately eserves a mention.
Ok some good uses for this and some bad. THe way governments are currently going i'd be thinking that they would use it for bad, under the guise of good.
Good Stuff
Keeping track of children, old people, criminals

Who knows
Only problems with using it to track criminals is that they would probably work out how to remove them.
Imagine removing one then tying to your dog or something.
I would really be interested to see if spam works. DO they compnaies advertising actually make sales through spam. Everyone deletes it as soon as it arrives. I suppose they must or they wouldn't do it. DOes that mean there is a whole class of idiot net users who actually buy stuff from spam.
I think a printout is whats needed. THe touch screen is only there to simplify choices for people so u don't get a mix up like in Florida. Its there to help illterates and others. Its not there to do the actual voting. If u had the touch screen which produced a printout, which the voter checks then puts into the ballot box. Then nothing can has to be stored on the computer. You could make each one stand alone and print onto special paper that changes each time. Of course nothing is perfect but its a start.
I am in total agreence with lots of people. Who knows what this will do. Its the entire planet we are talking about. If we screw this up, well Game Over for humans. How much thought has gone into this. It seems like something I would ahve thought up when i was 12. Bad idea.
This is the experiment I use to argue with creationists. They always say where did life come from and I point them towards this.
THe thing with creationists is that they are always forcing evolutionists to defend their theory and if they can't they use the god by default argument which is basically if you can't explain something, there must be a god. Thats the sort of reasoning that the indigineous cultures used.
Next time you are talking to a creationist, make them defend there belief. Aks them where god came from or something similar.
Another argument against insecticide.

Once again another reason to get rid of them. Its better to use old style methods like mosquito nets. Did you know that growing Basil keeps mosquitos away. ITs better to use old methods and then when someone gets sick use, antibiotics or whatever. Remember we can't beat nature, only curtail it.
Ah yes, the good old God by default argument. 'We can't explain it, therefore there must be a god.' Its that the same as traditional cultures such as Australian Aboriginals and their Rainbow serpent story. I believe there are many things we can't explain and never will but that doesn't mean there is a god.
I can't believe this. Has the whole world gone mad. How petty have we become. Does the MPA think we are going to pay to read lyrics. Besides when we pay for music doesn't that give us the right to read the lyrics. I mean we can here them. It makes me so angry.

Buffy is ok. It was entertaining. But I salute it for bringing Willow to my attention.
She is my god!!

Once again the US is bullying the small countries into following their laws.
"quietly signed Singapore-US Free trade agreement"
Doing the dodgy so no one knows. 'Sign it or we will tariff you economy into the ground'
I guess Oz will be up soon.

i'd love advertising to change to me. I'd buy lots of porn so when walking through a train station or something hardcore pr0n pops up.

Nice work who ever came up with that fix. ITs brilliant. Fight fire with fire!!!
