  1. SubjectIsSubject on Microsoft Will Never Again Sneakily Force Windows Downloads on Users (betanews.com) · · Score: 4, Insightful

Microsoft will not download install files for new operating systems to a user system's hard disk without a user's consent.

They really need a clear definition of "consent" because from what I remember just hitting the "X" on the upgrade Window instead of "Cancel" was actually considered consent by MS. It's purposefully misleading and you know they'll do it again with Windows 11 or whatever bullshit name they call it.

I know everyone is making fun of the name, but let's be serious here. China's track record for public safety is rather poor with things like falling elevators and collapsing escalators, so all things considered I think we need to consider that there is a good chance this train could Fuxing crash!

  3. SubjectIsSubject on Trump Can Block People On Twitter If He Wants, Administration Says (arstechnica.com) · · Score: 5, Insightful

Of course he can. It's his personal account.
Within seconds of a tweet being posted, he'll have hundreds of replies, almost instantaneously, from the same people consistently, who always manage to get out 6 part tweets within a few seconds of each other.

Spam, essentially. And what do we do with spam? We block it.
Admittedly that's how most people deal with @realDonaldTrump anyway.

NSA Group That Hacked Hotels Used Russian Attack Code In Attack On DNC

Did the NSA not have a tool that signs malware with the code of known groups as a way of implicating them and not the NSA? This tool simply existing calls into question pretty much any "hacker group did such and such". Unless that group claims responsibility, then we can't be really sure who did what.

  11. SubjectIsSubject on Broadcasters Put New Ad-Skipping Restrictions On YouTube TV (dslreports.com) · · Score: 1

Any interest I might have had in the service had come and gone in the span of the summary. I've no time or interest in watching ads for things I neither want to buy and on principal I'll try not to buy products that are obnoxiously advertised. Everything Google touches tends to start off so well and slowly but surely degrades into crap. Youtube will be with us for a while but it's not going to get better, ever.

Netflix had it right with their service and despite the price creep it's still good bang for your buck, for now.

  19. Re:Audio on Bluetooth 5 Is Here (betanews.com) · · Score: 2

I've had this problem using my Android phone and PowerAMP to play. It turns out the problem is caused by turning the screen off and the phone trying to go to sleep. Getting an app to keep the screen on works, but then you're wasting a ton of battery.

Leaving the screen on for me stops all those problems, and I've tried it on 3-4 different affordable bluetooth speakers.

  20. What is the best tool right now to get right of Windows 10 "features" and telemetry? I have a tablet that dual-boots Android and Windows 10 Home and I've tried a couple different things and can't, for example, remove OneDrive from the system.

The first thing I did was set my connection to metered so that it wouldn't immediately download a ton fo updates and fill up the tablets relatively small SSD.
