I said the same thing about the PS2 when it came out. On launch day it was just a slightly improved PS1. 5 years later its a very different story. When the time comes, I'll get a PS3 and I'll probably still be very happy with it in 5 years.
I have 6 games, all of which I really enjoy. (Lumines; Armored Core; Tiger W. Golf; Wipeout; Tomb Raider; and Burnout) In addition to that I can webbrowse via the wifi and watch movies from the memory stick.
The problem with UMD is that Sony never priced the movies at a reasonable price point. Why on earth would I pay more for less than I can get on a DVD?
Would it seem foolish if you were to earn a voucher for a movie ticket? I expect it wouldn't, and if you'll grant this much, then how is it any different from earning an in-game voucher? It's all entertainment. You're making the mistake of thinking it's different because it's a "virtual world" when it's really one more type of entertainment.
I'm a case in point. I am older than the typical target audience, have no interest in a GBA, but the PSP - with game, movie, and music capabilites - has me very interested in getting one of these things.
I'm most certainly part of a new segment with a little mor emoney to spend on toys.
I think SoE has come up with a novel way of dealing with crowded zones by creating multiple instances.
I can see a few ways this could have some real benefits. (I've only played EQ)
Say I zone into zoneX and see one highly populated instance and one almost empty. I'll choose the almost empty one if I wanted to do some solo play, but if I'm looking for a group/ meeting friends/ or passing through then I might choose the more populated one for the security of numbers.
I should also point out, that when i join my group, I could also tell them that there's a second instance of the zone up at that time.
Buddy, if I had the Mod points, I'ld lift it up a little. It's discourageing that for some, their chosen course of action is censorship instead of informed debate.
Well, to make it less anecdotal... I got my PS2 6 weeks after they came out. I can play DVDs, though some (like Gladiator) won't play anymore, the machine just can't read it now. And there are some DVDs that come out of the machine with a new groove cut into it near the center hole... very Bad Thing IMHO.
I chalk it up to decalibration due to age, but honestly don't know why. I just quit using the PS2 for movies and only play games.
My only goal now is to keep it alive long enough to get PSP and PS3.
I found this game (Black Death) some years ago. If I recall correctly it started out as a simulation of how disease spreads. It was turned into a game and every once in a while I whip it out to horrify my more 'sensible' friends. Great fun, well worth the $10 I spent a decade ago.
I recall reading (maybe in Discover) that Baboon social structure and Human social structure in a business office are remarkably similar. Knowing this and using the knowledge indaily application can be quite handy.
I have a friend at Google who tells me it's being tested and they've had meetings about it; doesn't sound like a joke. It does, however, sound like a good way to collect more audience for their ads.
Umm, I guess you didn't think of putting it in a plastic baggie?
You're forgetting, biologists need warm-blooded creatures for their experiments.
How *dare* you just stroll in here and make sense. Really... I never!

I can't disagree more.

*That* is why UMD wasn't adopted.
Do you mean 'not real' like a movie ticket?

Before calling 'troll' how about you actually try the link? It's a photo of a hard drive with plexi on top... That's not porn by any definition.
The point has to go to 'Doublem'
Way to RTFA, it's a human interest story, it's not about the movie.
Now now, let's not be too hard on these guys. I hear at least one company has signed on to use this on the batteries of their portable game unit.

Financially solvent?

Above link is a Goatse redirect.

It probably got moderated that way because someone at Anti-Slash has tagged it as a Troll and asked it be modded up.
It's not really very funny though.
But I suppose we can say LATFP :)
What's the second rule?
See No. 35
I'm being completely serious here.

so, to revise your diagram:
Chimps-> Baboons-> Office Workers

Yeah, don't do it. But if you do, then be considerate enough to make his/her middle name 'Punch1ng B4g'. And of course, change yours to 'G33k'.
