No no, he's not trolling. It is alot like my first experience with a Mandrake distro. I picked up 8.0 because I felt confident enough to get my feet wet. It gave me the choice of Gnome/KDE/Sawfish... etc. at least 6 choices. I installed 5 and ended up using only 1. I had the same kind of experience with browsers, office software, and since I don't code, i got loads of SW I didn't even know what to do with.
I may be reletively clueless, but I'm curious. I now know what I can do with alot of that formerly 'useless' software. But I wouldn't wish that experience on anyone I know, even my computer literate friend. It's not necessarily that he doesn't want the choice, its that he doesn't have the time or patience to sift through and choose the best.
Most people really don't want to tinker and explore. they have a task they want to complete and want any tool that will do.
Just because you need to go to the store for milk, doesn't mean you want to assemble the car.
Each minidisk can hold music at 3 different levels of quality: 1X (80 minutes), 2X (160), or 4X (320).
The sound qulaity is good enough for me at 4X, so i can put 4 or 5 CDs on each mindisk; the transfer may take 5 minutes per CD but I never have ot do it a second time - i just file the minidisk away. THe minidisk player uses one AA battery and at the 4X playback rate it will last me between 36 and 40 hours of playback. In other words, it is very rare for it to die before I recharge it.
Amazing idea, but also directly opposed to their golden rule "Don't be evil". One point of pride for Google is that they do not post ads on their portal. I expect what you suggest will happen long after the IPO and after the founders have sold their stake in Google.
It has always been my understanding that the *search* site Google in in the search engine business. I have never once seen Google assert that they are in the content business.
FYI, whenever they run a commemorative logo, it only points to a search on that subject (because they're a search engine..., get it?)
Yeah, I've read many of those articles and the measures RIAA is trying to push both scare me and piss me off. So, like the poster above me said, 'Long live the open source movement'. It is exactly big industries efforts to restrict my freedom, even my freedom to break the law and get sent to jail, that has led me to learning enough about linux that I can manage a home box without locks on my machine.
OK, now to split hairs. I popped open my dictionary and the rather lengthy definition of 'steal' includes "to take or appropriate without right or leave and with intent to keep or make use of wrongfully"
while 'theft' (also described as 'the act of stealing') revolves more around tangible personal property, i.e. "the felonius taking and removing of personal property with intent to deprive the rightful owner of it b: an unlawful taking (as by embezzlement or burglary) of property"
my source: Webster's New Collegiate Dictionary copyright 1973
So, by my reading, IP infringment is more an act of stealing than of theft.
This just feels so much like FUD. It reminds me of the warning to never pee in a swimming pool because there is some kind of chemical that'll react and turn some bright color; I don't know if its true, but I never wanted to find out.
"For example, we all know that in EQ no matter how many 1st level characters attack a 20th level character, he's not even going to feel it,... "
FYI, a 1st level most certainly can hit a higher level NPC. I was part of an EQ event where everyone logged in with a 1st level ranger and they all swarmed the Goblin king and brought him down. Admittedly it was a bloodbath and few swings hit, but the point remains... a noob can hit a 20th level npc.
It stands to reason that we have *more* than one 'binder' otherwise you're suggesting that our president is just doing without it for the sake of the exhibit....?
The more reasonable explaination is that the White House has numerous such 'binders' and is loaning out *one* of them for the duration of the exhibit.

Someone turned on your computer with a garage door opener? You might wanna try to increase your security!

If by 'evidence' you mean 'whining and finger-pointing', then they have produced plenty of 'evidence'.

I loved it when it was AudioGalaxy Groups. I used to burn a CD's worth of the lastest breaking club tracks every week.
The IRS is going to write to my boot track?

You mean the 'sole' system falls apart? /em ducks
I loved the Slashdot reference they made, but I couldn't do that division in my head...
I think he arrived at the base price by adding decimal places to his patent number.

What about the 'Social Responsibility' of MS to fix a vulnerability which allows this ruinous exploit?

Yeah it is... but look at his score.
