If you have Visual Studio installed, go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced. Look for the option that says "Enable script debugging" or something similar. Close all open instances of IE for the change to take effect. Now when an error event occurs, you will be asked if you want to debug. Clicking yes will bring you into the Visual Interdev debugger.

    Good Luck!

"cracking the case" refers to something along the lines of what had to be done to open some old Macintosh computers. A fellow needed a Torx screwdriver with an 8 inch handle, as well as a special tool to pinch the sides of the case to release the clips that hold the face on.

That's funny, I used to open my Mac Plus with an appropriatly sized flat head screw driver that fit diagonally between the slots on the Torx screws. I cracked the case with a putty knife. I never understood why people thought it was such a big deal to open one. Were later one-piece models more difficult to open?

  17. Cross Genderplay on Genderplay in Videogames · · Score: 2, Interesting

In these science-fiction and fantasy-themed online worlds, it's perfectly plausible that ungendered, ambiguously gendered, or bi-gendered races could exist.

I know plenty of ambiguously and bi-gendered people in real life. I think this article is great, but I also think that it's a mistake to stick all feminine traits on girls and masculine traits on boys. I think it would be really cool to be able to create a hetero male fighter that runs around in a dress in the next Baulder's Gate or whatever.

Gender is really just what you make of it. Every man who wears a tight shirt or crosses his legs isn't a faggot. Every girl with short hair and her sleeves rolled up isn't a dyke.

A really good book on feminism from a male perspective is Refusing to Be a Man by John Stoltenberg. I don't agree with everything he has to say, especially RE censoring pornography, but it is a very interesting read.

My MB has no ISA slot on it, but it still has an ISA bus and I still see the PCI to ISA bridge driver loaded when my system boots:
    Bus 0, device 7, function 0:
ISA bridge: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT82C686 [Apollo Super South] (rev 64).

The on-board sensors are queried over this bus, and I imagine that the parrallel, serial, and PS/2 ports connect to the ISA bus as well. So getting rid of the slot is just part of the battle.

Frankly, I would not want to have a system where a driver had to load before you can use the keyboard. Actually, I prefer the old round serial connector for the keyboard, since you didn't have to reboot if the keyboard came out. I have a HP-UX server here with no PS/2 connectors, and I had to go through 3 different USB keyboards before I could find one that would let me get at the management console (the first two just weren't detected by the keyboard driver).

In practice though, it is can be hard to write a complex application without using some vendor-specific features, particularly if you're not fortunate enough to be ona platform with full SQL92. It's good to have a DB abstraction layer in any case, so at least all the vendor cruft stays together.
