    Dear Towogbola,

Fourthy-thousand dollars seems like a reasonably low sum to pay for the privilege of not being snipped, but, with two kids in college, cash flow is a problem for me now and I just don't have that much money on hand.

I would be willing to send you $12.95/month if you would reduce the threat from snipping and gunning to something less severe. I'm sure I could withstand a few hours in the comfy chair.

If this doesn't seem like a good deal to you, then I know of another way that I could pay you the cash. I assure you that this is completely legal! A long lost relative of mine from Germany left me five million Euros in a Swiss bank account. Perhaps you, with your banking connections could help me get the money out of switzerland.

Please send me 8000 US DOLLARS so that I can submit the necessary applications.

    Sincerely,

    Icabod Slipp

You can't teach anyone to be creative. You either are, or are not.

But you can inspire people to be creative. The better the tools they have at their disposal, the more likely it is that they will find a creative way to use them. Of course they'll also find a bunch of trivial uses for them.

Kay's remarks remind me of that famous quote about television being a vast wasteland. It's less true today than it was 50 years ago and that's probably because the ratio of "writers" to "readers" has gone up. He says:

"You can read a document in Microsoft Word, and write a document in Microsoft Word. But the people who did web browsers I think were too lazy to do the authoring part."

I think that's a very important point, though he probably should have mentioned that in the early days of the web, authoring was a key ingredient. I've always wondered what happened to Mosaic's annotate button.

AND the LORD spake unto Moses, Go unto Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Let my people go, that they may serve me.

2 And if thou refuse to let them go, behold, I will smite all thy borders with apostrophes:

3 And the river shall bring forth apostrophes abundantly, which shall go up and come into thine house, and into thy bedchamber, and upon thy bed, and into the house of thy servants, and upon thy people, and into thine ovens, and into thy kneadingtroughs:

4 And the apostrophes shall come up both on thee, and upon thy people, and upon all thy servants.

5 And the LORD spake unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Stretch forth thine hand with thy rod over the streams, over the rivers, and over the ponds, and cause apostrophes to come up upon the land of Egypt.

6 And Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt; and the apostrophes came up, and covered the land of Egypt.

7 And the magicians did so with their enchantments, and brought up apostrophes upon the land of Egypt.

8 Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said, Entreat the LORD, that he may take away the apostrophes from me, and from my people; and I will let the people go, that they may do sacrifice unto the LORD.

9 And Moses said unto Pharaoh, Glory over me: when shall I entreat for thee, and for thy servants, and for thy people, to destroy the apostrophes from thee and thy houses, that they may remain in the river only?

10 And he said, To-morrow. And he said, Be it according to thy word: that thou mayest know that there is none like unto the LORD our God.

11 And the apostrophes shall depart from thee, and from thy houses, and from thy servants, and from thy people; they shall remain in the river only.

12 And Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh: and Moses cried unto the LORD because of the apostrophes which he had brought against Pharaoh.

13 And the LORD did according to the word of Moses; and the apostrophes died out of the houses, out of the villages, and out of the fields.

14 And they gathered them together upon heaps: and the land stank.
