Because everyone really enjoyed it at the time. It was after the third one came out, and didn't go the way they expected, that they started saying how it was TEH SUCK.
I enjoyed the second and third. I personally think that if it had come out in one shot, people would've enjoyed it more. As it left off, there were several questions that we had several months to ponder. Hence all the "many layers" theories, the Architect discussions, etc, etc. And then the second movie comes out, and it's a gigantic war. Not that I minded - fun all-out action. But considering people were waiting for Neo to realize he was (1) a robot, (2) a simulation, or (3) still trapped inside the matrix - even Zion's in The Matrix, they were disappointed.
Oddly, I see similar stuff in the Kill Bills. The first one was chop-socky, hong-kong action, while the second was a Western. Matrix Revolutions was a Sci-Fi war film.
Here's a trick for dealing with rebates and all that - shop at a different store. Seriously, hear me out. Take the ad for whatever it is you're getting, and go to the competition. They'll price match. Since they typically don't have the rebate, they'll call to verify it's still in stock, and then match the price. Voila - no hassle for you, and you got the item you wanted at the same price.
The question is, will they actually be making 6000 different DVDs for each movie that comes out? Or will they just have the DVD player contain the details on that member? 6000 distinct DVDs, even if you only need to create 20 a year per member, is a ludicrous amount (doing it once for the initial DVD players is much less so, especially since you only have to change the code on one chip). My personal bet is that it's the DVD player that contains the info, and cracking the DVD encryption will suffice.
iMac looks like a Sony player to me...

Dunno about anyone else, but in the picture box for the article is a picture of the Sony HD-based MP3 player (mentioned yesterday).
Maybe this is how Sony plans on selling it? Confusing people about it being an Apple product?
I'm looking at getting an X1 or equivalent later in the year. When you say "leave the projector on" do you mean with the bulb burning and everything? I assume so, but want to be sure.
If so, my wife will love you - I tell her to turn off the TV if she's away from it for more than 30 minutes.
Mozilla 1.8 has (had?) a real problem with it's Junk Mail controls... namely, they don't (didn't?) work nearly as well as 1.7's. Someone feel free to karma whore the details, but I think the problem is that they're using a bunch of different spam filters, and it's not as powerful as whatever was used in 1.7.
It's not the hardware & software. It's the time it takes. It doesn't matter how much stuff you give me, if I still have to write code and create content. They can't give away man hours.
Matrix: clever idea. Not feasible now, but give it a few years. Of course, by then they might have photorealistic avatars.
Final Fantasy - no what killed the final fantasy movie was a really bad, hippy-earth-love drenched, plot. The movie is gorgeous. The emotions, sure, aren't there. But it was the bad reviewsb that kept people away.
Aside from the Zap2it stuff posted here, there's at least one company that will sell you a subscription for the listings. $4 a month or something like that.
Definitely. It's the new joy of our life called Spyware. Get tools like Bazooka, Search & Destroy, or AdAware and take a look. I've seen machines with literally dozens of spyware/trojan apps on a machine. Get the Google Toolbar (toolbar.google.com) - that'll stop quite a bit of Spyware, though I'm sure the writers will come up with ways around it. (Don't bother with Yahoo's - unfortunately, they decided not to block stuff like Gator, since they have "relations" with the company that owns it.)
So this stops the casual copier. Big whoop. What about the fact that they lose a significant amount of money to pirates that mass-produce it? Buy a 500$ CD-Copier, and it'll include the copy protection in the copy. They'll still lose the money on that CD. Not to mention that for the casual copier, they'll just grab the mp3s off the net.
Um, part of your problem is crappy games, apparently. Give her games she'll enjoy. (Hint: POPCAP) Find out what she likes. My wife's playing Zuma next to me right now, and the plan is to play Thief later - I "drive" (she gets motion sick playing FPS), and she suggests strategies and places to go.
And we have agreed "alone time". Saturday nights are NWN. My wife & I will do dinner Saturday, hang out for a bit, then I go upstairs and NWN. Likewise, she has alone time, for whatever she wants to do. And (hint) if you don't have them at the same time, you might be able to game during BOTH.
(and yes, all my friends can now sub-post and say "yeah, but where are the kids, eh bucko?")
I'd recommend the PrismIQ for you. While it doesn't read SMB/NFS shares (yet), there are "media server" programs for linux, windows, and os x. Set up your folders, share them with the prismiq software, and watch them on your tv set with the prismiq.
It'll read raw vobs (though it has problems with iDVD created DVDs), plays mp3s, etc. The only real downside to me (besides the iDVD problem) is that it only does stereo/surround sound, not actual AC3.

Thanks. I think I'll catch that as well. :)
Oh boy. Crappy drivers. My favorite.

Granted, Apple had something like this back in the older Mac days
Um, actually the NeXT had the Widgets.
It's even listed under "Top Best Sellers"! *ROFL*
so few interesting movies... and both this and Sky Captain and The World of Tomorrow open the same weekend.

Hey - totally offtopic, but what do you use to record TV? I saw you mention myHTPC, but that only plays, it doesn't have its own recording app.
ahem.
Of course, you could always mix the two...

Anyone have any pictures to back it up? They can say it looked freaky all day long, but I'd like to see some proof.

A post complaining because an Apple product is too cheap? Damn, where's my +5 irony...

I guess it's new over here in the U.S., at least... I haven't seen ushers in movie theaters, well, as far back as I can remember.
...and all the other reasons you'd want to see a First Run Movie at your home instead of a theater.
Heck, I wouldn't really mind, maybe I won't have to deal with screaming kids, people talking to the screen, idiots on cell phones
