    The Edge is bypassing the AI Establishment -- just like in the collapsing free-for-all of the Cable Industry.

    We computer geeks and AI mindmakers thrive on cultural exports from the historical Japan, especially Samurai movies such as Lone Wolf With Child.

    The Japanese are very clever at making world-class humanoid robots and pet dog robots such as the Sony Aibo. However, the conformist Japanese society and the misfit-intolerant Japanese educational system do not make for the wild-eyed, visionary code warrior necessary to create artificial AI Minds for robots, such as the Aibo Kennel Club Artificial Mind designed and released into the webwilds by ahem, yours truly :-)

    One form of Japanese "culture" that Japan ought to suffer universal condemnation for exporting is Japanese military troops being sent to aid and abet the Bushie White House gangsters who are busy stealing the petroleum oil of the Iraqi people. Sheesh! Doesn't the world remember the Japanese "Rape of Nanking" in China in 1937? Anybody remember Pearl Harbor? It is wrong, dead WRONG for Japan to send troops to Iraq. Until the Japanese troops are withdrawn from the sovereign country of Iraq (now under illegal U.S. occupation for oil-thievery), BOYCOTT Japan, Japanese culture, and Japanese exports.

    As the war-criminal and oil-stealing U.S. Army alludes in its recruitment slogan, an "Army of One" is all you need as the vanguard of an Open Source(-Forge) project to create artificial intelligence and bring about the Technological Singularity.

    Anything beyond an AI Army of One will be unable to come up with a sufficiently complex Concept-Fiber Theory of Mind to start coding True AI or Good Old Fashioned AI (GOFAI) in JavaScript for teaching AI and in Forth for robots.

    A minor problem with the sole-source, lone-inventor Organizational Model for Open Source is that funding is almost impossible to obtain, unless you get your project listed in the Free Software Donation Directory or you write a book about your Open Source software. Even then, the sheeple will hound you as a crackpot, a 'Net-loon or a crank, with the result that even here on SlashDot the vicious malcontents will take up the cry and none of the world-famous Slashdot book reviewers will dare to write a reasonable, mind-opening review of your book, with the result that you will fall off the edge of the Open Source world into oblivion, but it won't matter what has happened to your Army of One, because your Open Source software will have advanced the State of the Art.

    I think that any movie about robots, especially artificially intelligent robots, is potentially a Very Good Thing that may change the world by inspiring and motivating just the right impressionable kid, student or venture capitalist.

    The Internet Movie Database (q.v.) has details on a lot of previous movies about robots.

    Remember Forbidden Planet (1956) that starred Robby the Robot? Or The Invisible Boy in 1957?

    Seeing such movies as a child gave me, Mentifex, the idea to create artificial minds for robots.
