I came to Slack from FreeBSD because I couldn't run FreeBSD on my new laptop. I never had much luck installing Mandrake or RedHat but Slack felt like being back on FreeBSD.
I like being able to adjust things in the start scripts, etc. Compiling a kernel is more involved in selecting options in Linux than FreeBSD but is not too difficult.
I doubt if I'll ever return to FreeBSD.
Slack's packages are very easy to install and upgrade as were things in FreeBSD.
This is why I won't install Linux for most friends. I will help those who will help themselves, but for some who have asked I tell them to stick with Windows. Why should I waste my time keeping their systems running when they won't do anything to learn on their own.
The problem the pop-up advertisers are now facing is that blockers are getting easier to use and more prevalent.
Before Joe "Dunce" User was stuck with the pop-ups but now even he can turn them off. But he is still a "Dunce" so will still click on them if they come through (remember, somebody still buys from spammers, too).
If you buy your comp from a large OEM the key is built into the bios/recovery cd process. There is nothing to enter in this case for the end user. They don't even have to activate the product with Microsoft.
"Fix old bugs? Sure a few, but the focus is more on adding junk in order to name a new edition."
This is precisely why I prefer OpenOffice (it handles all my needs if not yours). Corel refused to fix bugs in their products and with the assumption that the user could pay for them by upgrading (which only produced a new set of bugs).
I think this is where the reviewer hit it on the head. I switched from WP to OpenOffice. If WP could import OpenOffice documents I would likely buy the Linux version so I could easily convert my old WP documents. But why bother if that one feature I would use is not there. What a great review. Hopefully someone at Corel will read it.
On a technical note, when I hit the Executive Summary page before the Slashdot story went live, around 11am CDT, it said "This document has been accessed 361 times." A refresh a few minutes later bumped it up to 369, so it's a real-time counter. It'll be interesting to see how the Slashdot effect changes that number, and whether the counter survives the Local Warming of their web server.
Just went to test this theory. That "hard hitting report" has been hit hard--can't even get to it!
Excellent post, but since you normally have broadband you don't suffer like those of us FORCED to live on dial-up. What suprises me most about your post is some dum-dum moderator didn't mark you off topic.
This is even worse with nvidia's graphics cards. The names are numbers which don't really tell you anything about performance. Such as some of the 5000 series cards being worse than the Geforce 4 cards.
I think the complaint against the games was not about that it made people accurate with firearms but made them shoot without the hesitation they claimed "normal" people had.

Installed them off of slackware current.
No problems installing or running.
From Oregon where the say ruff instead of roof.
Tell me why this is bad by defending child pornography and leave the cries of censorship out of it. There are worse things than censorship.
And all the programmers say LEAVE IT ALONE.
Tried this out. No pop-ups came through.
Of course, I am running Linux + Mozilla + Tabbrowser extensions. Also have flash blocked with the "click to play" add in.
tabbed browser extensions
Flash click to view

>I really need to throw out that months-old
>foil-wrapped leftover
You found my hat!
Many driver issues are irrelevant now with so much stuff being USB. Corporately speaking, not that much really needs drivers.
Rather it is games for home users and apps for business users.
The apps side will diminish a bit with time.
>helpful for stripping paint off metal surfaces
:)
and for stripping metal off metal surfaces

Because judges are lawyers and don't like to slap even dirty lawyers hands (experience with frivilous lawsuits will show you this).

This is not a troll.
Can someone tell me why the soviet jokes are funny?
Great. Cell phones -- the next great terrorism threat.
I used to use WP on Windows and I used 8 for linux. But I think you already said why I don't want to leave OpenOffice--open source and file formats.
Corel will abandon this new version and soon you won't be able to get your files out or upgrade or get a bug patch.
>but what the hey, you only offtopic once
No, I get modded offtopic all the time. And so will this reply.

A lot of poverty in India is because of the caste system. If you are a member of a low caste you either CANNOT work or can get only menial jobs.
Please take care of that lawyer real well when he comes into the ER for us now, ok?
