    The only people still running mission-critical stuff on SCO are people who have been unable to port, either because of their own technical incompetence or because the app is an utterly inscrutable horror of non-portability. About the only the SCO's impending death does to them is force them to face up to the imminent pain coming their way.

    Correct! They made up a small independent state in the Traveller universe named Freedonia (name swiped from the Marx Brothers movie _Duck Soup_, along with the country's leader, Rufus T. Firefly, who was played by Groucho in the movie). Their first products were ship plans ostensibly turned out by the agency, complete with cover letter and commentary in character. I still have the ones I bought.

    For those who are not familiar with the operations of Moffet Field, it is adjacent to some very dense populations. Because of this there have been ongoing campaigns to limit use of the field to noncommercial aircraft and focus on development of research facilities there.


    So they built houses near the airfield and then are shocked that they have planes going back and forth? Yeah, "dense" is fair description...

    First Question:
    If a copy of Vista gets improperly classed as illegal, does MS make a profit when the only recourse of the victim is to buy *another* copy of Vista?

    Second Question:
    Is it therefore in MS's interest to invest a lot of resources in making sure this runs error-free?

    I have no problem with web server blocking views. What I have a problem with is the *whining*. Block if you're going to block, don't block if you're not going to block, but for God's sake quit whining about how people view the pages you do serve up.

    It's your computer and your browser and your net connection.
    On the other end there's another persons server, content and bandwidth. If they don't want to serve you pages, then they don't have to.

    Very true. He has every right not to serve me pages if he doesn't want to, and I won't complain if does that. What he does *not* have the right to do is to serve me pages and then bitch about how I view them.

    The reason I hate gmail is that it's webmail, and thus inherently something that is awful and should not be done. And indeed even more broadly, "web applications" are a terrible idea; the web makes a really crappy platform.


    I gotta agree. I use Dovecot on Linux to run my own IMAPS server. I have complete control and complete and secure access from anywhere that has an email client that supports IMAPS (which is any modern email client) and wonder why anybody would want to surrender control of their email to somebody else.

    Hey, don't worry, their stock is around 60 cents and was at 44 cents. If they drop below a quarter a share, they get delisted (just like SGI). As far as Wall Street (and investors are concerned), you might as well be dead once that happens.


    Really, they stop taking you seriously if you go under $1 a share. You might not be delisted, but "penny stocks" are rarely given serious consideration by anybody but fools and scammers.
