    Wow, WCDMA/UMTS is a mouthful. Still, I think PCMCIA takes the cake, just because it's widely used, and yet everyone gets it wrong. Best way to remember it:

    Well, yes. I suspect since he lost his hearing, he came to appreciate it more. Don't forget that Beethoven composed his Ninth Symphony, with the "Ode to Joy," after his hearing was completely gone.

    PocketPC devices are too damn big. And now that I have three devices to carry around (phone, palmV, ipod) I REALLY don't want to add any more weight.

    So no ipaq for me. But as others have said: use the right tool for the job. As for this Palm, I suspect that most buyers will stick with the $100 models, since palm is really good at being a PDA, and less good at expanding into pocketPC like applications.

    Well, I never use AIM, but there are millions who swear by it. (Kind of how some people swear by IRC.) AIM on Palm is actually something that these millions might find useful - think of the cellphone users who SMS each other all day in Europe and Asia. (And here, though fewer as it doesn't work well.)

    Would I buy it? No, because my Palm V still works fine. But it does seem like a useful device.

    I would use a laptop. An iBook would be a much better choice. Record as real WAV files, then export to MP3 whenever necessary.

    It compresses the audio, taking out blank space, to fit in between 30 sec - 2 min an hour. Rush Limbaugh among others have blasted it for ruining the listener's experience.

    Perhaps it actually works in XP? My 98 laptop suspends without difficulty, but it BSODs about half the time on wake-up - not fun.

    It's definitely a true story. I remember when it happened, and I also remember going to Denny's before then and it was true - no locks! Weird, but you could certainly count on them to stay open all the time.

    The story says the profit is net profit according to generally accepted accounting principles. (Of course the real scandal is that many companies are choosing to ignore GAAP in favor of the "pro forma" crap you discuss, but it doesn't apply here.)

    Fair enough. The iPod still kicks butt though, for the mac user; don't sneeze at 800+ songs, it's very very convenient.
