Is anyone else sick of reading sentences like "the day of could be closer than we imagined"? When does it actually work out in the end that the technology is available shortly after one of these statements?
It's kinda like back in 1990 hearing "the days of high-definition television are closer than you imagined!". In reality, they're working out to be farther than I imagined...
You're obviously in the DC area. I highly recommend WGMS 103.5. Best commercial classical station in the country (one of the only that is not a public station!)
No, I don't think your example would work because an average Windows user would just think that Linux is pathetic if it cannot view files. I think your example is poorly worded.
Perhaps just turn it around, like "I'm sorry but I cannot access the file you sent me, because you sent it in a format that is only usable in Windows. Please use a format that is more accessible to all computer users, such as plain text or PDF".
The creator of Mario and Zelda created a real-time strategy game where you are a spaceman who crash landed on a planet, and with the help of hundreds of little native creatures (Pikmin) you have to gather your spacecraft parts. Preview
Looks quite impressive. A creative approach to the RTS genre that I'm sure will attact a large range of players. Will be released tomorrow here in the US. I know it's on my Christmas list!;)
I got in line at 5am to get one this morning. And I was 20th in line. Yes, there is a huge demand. Interestingly enough, the average age waiting in line with me was 20.
Who was it that said the Gamecube is only for kids?
The system itself just looks so cool, and I picked up Star Wars Rogue Leader. Amazing graphics. The light effects and self-shadowing are superb.
Remember that. Who cares about cycles per second if you aren't having fun?
I am buying the GameCube for the games, because that's what it is designed to do. It's not just a PC in cool wrapping. I really think the harddrive in the XBox is going to be its downfall, because that allows sloppy programming that has gotten Microsoft into so much trouble; release it quickly and just patch it later...
Nintendo knows you cannot do that, so the games have to be perfect before they ship. Much better eye towards QA, IMHO.
> So where is the bluetooth connectivity on this one?
How about generalizing that to "where is bluetooth connectivity?".
Seriously, who cares? Nothing else seems to play with bluetooth, so what good will it do you to bundle in the hardware for it? Now I know there are a lot of pieces of hardware out there that claim bluetooth stuff, but does any of it actually work in a *gasp* usable manner?
No, it's not using the Crazy Taxi engine. Crazy Taxi is beautifully done. Simpsons Road Rage looks rather primitive comparatively, but it does look like it uses a slight cartoon render process on at least the main character vehicle and the directional hand. Note the second-pass dark edge lines. Interesting effect.
Crazy Taxi = best game for Dreamcast
Simpsons = best TV show
What a great combination. Interestingly, Crazy Taxi is coming out on the GameCube at the same time as Simpsons Road Rage (Nov 18). And, for the fans out there, Crazy Taxi 2 came out for the Dreamcast recently.
> It's ideas like yours that caused this mess in the first place.
And it's people like you that would let these terrorist get what they want.
Sometimes we just have to do what is right and stop worrying about making everyone happy. It's a question of right vs. wrong, not happy vs. sad. They attack because of our middle easy policy? Fine, we enforce our policy to an even greater extent. We cannot just back down. We cannot let these people think they can bully us around with cowardly tacticts. The only way we can stop these attacks is by showing them that they DO NOT WORK! We back out of Israel? Fine, they got what they want and in the next conflict they just do some other terrorist attack because they know it'll work.
So, I want to SAVE the innocent people. By ending the effectiveness of terrorism.
I imagine there was a struggle when the pilot and/or passengers rushed the terrorists who took over the controls, and plunged the plane to the ground. while it was still 15 mins outside of DC.
Rebuild them taller. That's the only thing to do. Show the cowards that we'll just get bigger when they hit. And, I say we increase our support of Israel ten-fold. And send a message that every attack they carry out on us will result in more increases in support and bigger buildings.
I'm so full of rage and anger.
I was in a building just south of the Pentagon yesterday when everything happened; our building shook when the collapse occurred and smoke was everywhere. It was frightening to then see the F-16's overhead providing air cover (the plane that crashed in PA was headed for DC).
I was sick to my stomach all day yesterday coming down off the adrenaline. What a tragedy.
I grew up with Legos. It's sad today to see these new fangled kits that only go together one way, have tons of specialized parts, and even attempt to have a "story" connected to them. That defeats the very purpose of Legos. My parents would buy me tons of Legos because they help with creativity, engineering, spatial reasoning, and imagination.
What we're seeing is the transition from back in the day when Legos let you run wild with your imagination to the new day where kids need to be told what to imagine.
Multimedia plugin for Linux which can handle Quicktime, MPEG, MP2, AVI, SGI-movie, Tiff, DL, IFF-anim, MIDI, Soundtracker, AU, WAV and Commodore 64 audio files.
I'm using it in Mozilla 0.9.3 and it works quite well. That, and the flash plugin that is available here:

I'm all set with Mozilla under Linux: Java plugin, Flash plugin, Quicktime, etc...

Huh? Did you actually play through N64 Zelda? Or Majora's Mask? Those games rule! They are certianly not weak. Full of sub-adventures, interesting game objectives, and great use of the 3D environment. They actually used the 3D to add more to the characters; not just re-hash the old Zelda with pretty polygons. Majora's Mask is the ultimate in creative game play; it's like Zelda meets Groundhog day. How unique!
I bought my N64 the first day it came out in anticipation of the new Zelda, and I was not disappointed. I just played through the SNES Zelda again last month, and it is certainly a masterpiece, but so is the N64 Zelda. They are both excellent games in their own ways.
RE: Zelda. Right on. I am a huge Zelda fan, and LOVE the fact that it looks new and unique. That's why Nintendo will always get my money. They actually care about game play and creativity. Who wants a PS2 if all you can play is yet another racing game (oh, but you can see the sun reflecting off the windshield!) or another football game (now with 2002 stats!). Who cares? I want a game that engages my imagination. I'm playing through Zelda: Majora's Mask right now, and it is the best game I have played in a long time. Creative use of the Zelda world and the flow of time. Great stuff!!!
RE: Mario. I agree. Seems like Mario 64, but just with more polys. I guess that's what they were going for; but I'm still hoping for some more originality.
I don't want to buy a new game system because it pushes more polys. I'm saving up for the GameCube because the Nintendo mark ensures great games. People need to realize that it's about the games in the end. That's why Xbox will not do so well. And a game is NOT a collection of sports stats or some walk from cut-scene to cut-scene. I played Resident Evil 2 for the Dreamcast and became ill at the fact that people call it a "game".
Just my $0.02.

Strange. I downloaded the demo last night and it ran very sluggishly. All the other Loki demos/games run well, as do Quake 2 and Quake 3. Perhaps it's something with the particular 2D rendering engine? I have an nVidia TNT2 with the latest driver...
Same reason people think the "24 valve" emblem on their car makes it "go faster".
They don't even know what a valve is, let alone what the number of valves represents in engine design, but hey, 24 is more than 16.
No, they were Geonosians, the winged creatures of the rocky planet featured in the end of AotC.

Did you turn the system ON??! Because the Star Wars game I have for my Gamecube is nothing short of spectacular, beautiful, AND fun.
To each his own, but IMHO Star Wars: Rogue Leader is superb!
