  1. His Best Quote of the Interview... on Pentagon Climate Change Author Interviewed · · Score: 1

On whether the environmentalists should focus on issues in this country, where their funding comes from or the third world and developing countries.

    He bravely answered the latter.

  2. Better Than This Book? on Cocoa Programming for Mac OS X, 2nd Edition · · Score: 1

O'Reilly... a well respected publisher (and have bookshelf full of their titles) and Addison Wesley.. another respected publisher.

Which one to choose if you could only choose one? Thanks.

  3. F' IBM on Kill Bill, IBM vs Microsoft · · Score: 2, Insightful

The younger crowd doesn't realize what a predator IBM was in the late 80's. Anti-Unix zealots... because *everything* can run on one of their mainframes or their POS mini computers.

Good riddance to both of 'em.

  4. Re:Or.. we've told our employees... on JBoss's Fleury Abjures Astroturfing · · Score: 1

  5. Didn't Get Any Attention?? on Can Star Wars Episode III Be Saved? · · Score: 1

Were you even alive for the first Star Wars?? If so, you would remember it was all the rage *before* it was released. My high school buds must have seen it 10 times! It was HUGE.

  6. Worth Noting You're Wrong on Apple Releases iTunes SDK for Windows · · Score: 1

Did you even *read* the article? Apparently not... for as you state ActiveX is not supported (and rightly so, what would Windows GUI objects do for you on Mac OS X), but distributed use of COM IS supported. In fact, the client-server example on the OReilly web page is exactly that!

  7. Gloom and Doom Predictions in the 70's... on Out of Gas · · Score: 2, Interesting

Had world oil supply peak around 1981. Coal in the Eastern United States tapped out by 1990.

Predictions worked! People were in a panic state. Lines at the gas pumps. Price of coal reached unbelieveable high. Life was good if you lived in Texas or West Virginia.

  8. Why do they still push Mini Disk?? on Sony Connect Online Music Download Store Launches · · Score: 1

Sony just can't let a bad idea die. Their R&D expenditure on this piece of crap couldn't be that much that they have to continue releasing these things. Enough already!!

  10. Re: Slamming Craftsman on Websites For The Frugal? · · Score: 1

Funny... I've done the same thing with a Craftsman socket wrench (break frozen wheel lugs using an extension pipe) *many* times. NEVER broke.

Ditto with their pipe wrenches to free galvanized pipe.

    Nice try.

  11. Or The Beatles... on Apple Releases Major iTunes Update · · Score: 0

Thanks to McCartney and Yoko's greed. Not that I want their music anyways... thanks to reading an interview with one of the non-dead ones who stated half the songs were stolen during their drug-induced orgy's.

  12. "Investing" on Reasonable Salary for Entry Level Programmers? · · Score: 1

Please. Give me a break. You sound like some troll salesdork for Merill Lynch. It takes money to make money and this "dollar cost averaging" was a ploy invented by the mutual fund industry.

Wait to save for retirement until you truly can afford it. The $100/mth means little now. Pay off your student loans first.

  13. "Get Over Your Prejudices" on Increasing the Value of the Domestic IT Worker? · · Score: 1

No... I think the people of India need to "get over their prejudices". Or don't you consider the "untouchables" from the lower caste of India's Hindu population worth your consideration.

    I didn't think so...

  14. WPA Useful?? on How Will We Get Around Near-Future Earth? · · Score: 1

For every useful project, there were others where people were basically paid to stand around holding a shovel all day.

In '65... and all the cool TV shows of the era... "Combat", "12 O'Clock High" were still in black and white!!

But what really kills me... I remember my mother letting me stay home from school to watch all the Gemini launches in *color*... and now I see shows on the History Channel about Gemini and the film is black and white!! I REMEMBER color! Where's the color!!

  17. "Started Programming at Age 8" on The Unhappy World of IT Professionals · · Score: 1

Sheesh... no wonder all the young guys in our cube farm pick their nose and eat it... take a dump and refuse to wash their hands... fart... belch...

Instead of learning things like "social skills" and etiquette and age 8, they were learning how to comprehend a stack trace!

  18. Stroustrup Book on Practical C++ · · Score: 2, Insightful

It obviously is the bible... but I feel is more of a reference. I keep it on my bookshelf and use it often as a reference... there is no way you can sit down and read this like a text book. Way too dry.

They (US) don't want restrictions that the underdeveloped countries (India and China) don't have to enact until their industry is as developed (and polluting) as the rest of the world's industrialized nations.

And to some extent that have a point. It's more or less a handicap. Then again... if the industry is moving to Mexico, India or wherever... does it really matter?

  21. My Understanding Also... on Bangalore Beats Silicon Valley · · Score: 2, Interesting

Indian friends I have, have told me that were shocked to discover after they arrived in the US that we did not have servants and cooks.

Of course, we *know* who the servants and cooks are in India and *their* standard of living.

Maybe India will get more than they bargained for... all they need is a class-based revolt.

  22. Noisy Piece of Junk on Roland Backs Down On MT-32 Emulator · · Score: 1
