I know that a lot of people are hell-bent on having their browser control everything, but I would much rather use a "nice" user interface any day. Buttons, Text, Combo Boxes? Sure. Sliders? Not really. Something more graphically-oriented (think letting your grandmother program her VCR)? Not without Flash (yuck).
Secondly, it is a myth that people work better with music playing.
Depends on the music and the environment. Listening to instrumental music is less distracting than listening to rap, for example. And in cube farms, music is certainly less distracting than the salesperson three cubicles down talking quite loudly to a client.
I agree with most people that the movie was light-years ahead of Phantom. But to me, it shared Phantom's biggest flaw: the pacing was completely erratic.
Short, terrific action scenes, followed by looooong "love" scenes that grind the whole movie to a halt. Damn, that movie starts and stops more often than a bus.
Please, George, get professionals to script and direct ep. 3.
Let's keep producing more violent movies and glorifying war, like Platoon, Saving Private Ryan
Wow, the "Saving Private Ryan" movie I saw must have been a different one, because it certainly did not glorify war. Maybe you saw the UK version, with all the deaths cut out?
I have digital cable, say about 100 channels. Sure, I don't care for some of them (Speedvision? WTN? Telelatino?), but that still leaves a good chunk.
What do I do when ads come on? I zap 'em. Change channels. There's bound to be something watchable (for at least two minutes) on some other channel.
And I'm damn good at it. Depending on the channel I'm watching, I "know" how long the commercial break will last, and I rarely miss more than 5 seconds of the show (or see more than 5 seconds of ads).
Only downside: my girlfriend hates it when I do that.
For example, If you add 43 to a register, you can subtract 43 from that register and get your energy back
Can you imagine:
"Oh man. I had a bug in my program, and accidentally substracted more from my registry that what I originally added. Now my computer is literally frozen. Does anyone have an icepick?"
But I really do think we should be focusing on ways to fit more people or earth
Fit more people on Earth? Peter Gabriel had that idea in the 70s (from the song Get 'em out by Friday):
This is an announcement from Genetic Control:
"It is my sad duty to inform you of a four foot restriction on humanoid height." ...
"I hear the directors of Genetic Control have been buying all the properties that have recently been sold, taking risks oh so bold.
It's said now that people will be shorter in height, they can fit twice as many in the same building site."
Of course, another point could be made about the intelligence needed to live in a part of the world where the power goes off every couple of weeks.
If I lose power 4 times in a year, I consider that a lot.
I should note that plot is almost totaly unecessary in multiplayer games. Interaction with real people is far more convincing than a computer can be... right Mr Turing?
I've got to disagree with you here. I've been waiting for a long time for a Starcraft-like game that has meaningful cooperative multiplayer scenarios. I can't wait for my buddies to buy Red Alert 2 so I can try the coop missions on there, but it still looks like disjointed missions, not campaings.

Although as the article says, it will be a while before we can pit androids vs humans on the same field
Wouldn't want to get tackled by one of those.
I guess there wouldn't be as much faking on the field then...
... or they were trying to play a pirated copy of Celine Dion's copy-protected CD, and it wiped their CD-ROM's firmware.

Actually, I think most people (including me) fall into the "Don't give a crap" category. I'll install the software and use it any damn way I want.
I fail to see what clones have to do with robots.
Yeech. Then when time comes to colonize Mars, it's already overrun by roaches.
Might as well send both roaches and rats, then. It'd be just like New York by the time we get there.
Russian roulette?
Equestrian events. 'Nuff said.
The top 50 (at least the top 10) should have been about the games' popularity among players
You can't be serious. Have you taken a look at the top-selling games in recent years? Myst. Who wants to be a millionaire? Deer hunter. Yeeeeech.
Popularity is the last criteria they should use.
I like Banjo better.

It came out in Nature well over a year ago.
*chuckle*...

How long before "Zeitgeist" shows up in that section?
Why in the world would you want to idolize anyone, regardless of how much code they write or how much they weigh? You're missing the point.

Buy a bunh of them, reprogram them to sing DeCSS, and put them back on the shelves.
