Yes; have the penguin mean GNU/Linux, and then have a seperate image/topic for the Linux kernel.
Obviously, many people are tired of hearing about Linux kernel news, and wish they could filter it out (myself not incuded.) Is that not what a large point of seperate topics is?
Doing something like this is very simple for the/. editors.
We just got the story, and what we have read speaks for itself. South Africa has apparently been taken over...conquered, if you will, by a master race of giant scorpions.
It is difficult to tell at this point whether they will kill the captive South Africans or simply enslave them.
One thing is for certain; there is no stopping them, the scorpions will soon be here.
And I, for one, welcome our new insect overlords. I would like to remind them that as a trusted slashdot personality, I could be helpful in rounding up other to toil in their underground sugar caves.

Well, this poster was possibly a little hasty earlier, and would like to reaffirm his allegiance to this country, and it's human president. It may not be perfect, but it's still the best government we have......for now....
(takes down a poster saying "SCORPIONS RULE")
(shamelessly ripped from The Simpsons...sorry, I couldnt resist)
I agree; what is needed are some more specific books....instead of large, expensive books that explain everything, what about things like "A Win32 developer's guide to C#," or "A C Programmer's guide to Linux kernel programming."
Way too many of the books I have overlap each other, leading to a lot of wasted money
Although it would be nice to have books like that printed, they would probably not sell well, so would have to sold online in the form of e-books.
Most people surely will, but the hope of the Lindows project is to get those users who dislike microsoft, whether they dont want to support it, or for some other reason.
I do, however, agree; almost nobody has enough insentive to use an unstable, inefficent emulator, with an OS that they are completely unfamiliar with over using windows. Most of those people already use macs.
This does not mean anything; the post office was once government owned, and obviously, many (maybe even the majority of) people still think that it is government owned today. The people who own the.gov domain probably see little reason in kicking uspo.gov out
And that's the interesting thing; AOL owns so much that it simply cannnot keep them all under control. For example, Nullsoft's creating of the "AIMazing" plugin, in which one of AIM's ads is replaced with an equalizer for Winamp, would never come out of AOL directly. That's why I think that this is a great thing for Red Hat (if true, of course.)
It does not seem that many people have realised the fact that this man is a troll; the story is fake just look at his posting history. Christ...is it really that hard to see? I must say, however, that it is a good and pretty funny one.
For those who do not know what OpenNIC is, here is their description:
The OpenNIC is a user owned and controlled Network Information Center offering a democratic, non-national, alternative to the traditional Top-Level Domain registries.
Users of the OpenNIC DNS servers, in addition to resolving host names in the Legacy U.S. Government DNS, can resolve host names in the OpenNIC operated namespaces as well as in the namespaces with which we have peering agreements (at this time those are AlterNIC and The Pacific Root).
Membership in the OpenNIC is open to every user of the Internet. All decisions are made either by a democratically elected administrator or through a direct ballot of the interested members and all decisions, regardless of how they are made, within OpenNIC are appealable to a vote of the general membership.
I'm sorry, but you assumed way too much. I also wonder why you decided to create an inflammatory post; my post was not meant to insult yours, I was just talking about my experience with windows XP. I do not use only microsoft products. I have been running slackware for a couple of years now, and I use a slackware computer as a general server (and a secondary desktop machine.) I also use FreeBSD on my third machine.
Once again, I was not trying to insult your post; just adding my experience, which with the SB Live and XP in general has been good.
IMO, this post DID deserve to get modded down, because the question has been answered so many times; dont upgrade unless you are a developer or 2.5 is the only recent kernel that will work effectively on your machine! Bigger!=better
I've been using XP Pro since it came out (gaming) and I've come to the conclusion that MS XP is just the same old MS shit covered up with a face lift and the usual _huge_ pile of MS marketing bs. More stable? No it's not. More secure? No it's not.
Speak for yourself; I use XP as my desktop OS for the exact opposite reason; I have found it to be more stable than (obviously) 98, and windows 2000 . Actually, I might have fixed the issue in Win2k right before upgrading to XP; i replaced the fan on one of the cpus.
Don't get me wrong, the fact that it didnt support your sound card is bad (assuming the situation isnt ridiculous) but i am just talking about my experience with XP.
But still...would i use it as my firewall or server machine? hell no; it simply does not belong there.
Jim Cullinan, lead product manager for XP, in Redmond, Wash., agreed that the information released with the patches does not offer that much detail so as not to confuse and overwhelm users with technical information. "Most users did not want specific detail of source code changes," Cullinan said.
But what about those who do? I really do not understand why they could not simply have a "more info" button that has details of what, exactly, it is patching. Don't get me wrong; I am an avid user of XP, and it has been very stable, etc., but I have been annoyed with the fact that I do not know what the latest "compatibility update" is doing. I am not asking for the exact code, just what it does. I simply do not understand how having more details can actually hurt.
Don't get me wrong; I do not support the lawsuit, I just belive that it is not completely for an anti-competitive reason (although Lindows does not look very impressive at this point).
Also, BeOS was not made for windows. BeOS is an operating system. If an operating system can/does run on FAT32 (I don't think any other OSes than windows can run on NTFS *yet,) it is still an operating system. The closest application I can think of to an operating system is User Mode Linux, which, I belive, is still considered an application, because it does not interface with the hardware.
You do know that you are an idiot, right? OSes do not run on top of Windows, dude....that is what is called an application. Also, how is "win linux" anywhere near as bad as "Lindows?" (not that "Lindows" is very bad in the first place) There are plenty of apps that start in "win."
It has been proven by history; companies who do not enforce trademarks aggresively often come out losers, especially those in the computer industry.
Anybody notice the fact that they neclected to state the average battery life? In addition, it is USB, and the interface seems to be a little too similar to the iPod's to me...hmm...
What about spamming on instant messaging systems such as ICQ? I know that I can (and have) blocked people who are not friends, but are there any laws against spamming of that sort? Or do we just have to wait until it becomes a larger industry?
At first sight, I thought running Linux on a camera would be useless, but it actually DOES have some great uses; mainly high quality, low budget films, in which a low budget movie can produce effects like those in The Matrix, for a fraction of the cost. IMO, small, abstract markets like this might be more important to the future of Linux than things like Linux on PDAs.

Does "over 10 hours" as an average battery life for a device with a hard drive seem a tad too long?

From the website:
"this does not affect the non-Windows versions"
Well, to find out, you can simply look at the changelog...

As you can see, gnumeric has made great progress. I highly reccomend it over KSpread to any self-respecting linux user.
