While this may be the future of games delivery, I don't quite understand the "protection" involved with this Steam system. I mean, once the entire game is on your system, how long would it take for a pirate group to crack the thing and let you play it without paying? How is this going to be any different that other methods of copy protection?
Microsoft only tried making sports games good with XSN for one year.. It really had some potential. Heck, I think Top Spin is one of the best tennis games to come out in a long time. If only they didn't have so many bugs with the XSN release, this might not have happened.
teasing us people who do not have a gmail account! This kind of information just leads us on and gives us information on tools 95% of the IT population can't use. I mean, how many times do you have articles on Windows Longhorn beta that talks about the cool new features that the beta users are using, when the rest of us can't use it???
Note.. this mod only gives you the flashlight with the machine gun, nothing else. Useless IMHO, since I use all the other weapons due to the low ammo and power of the MG.
Guess it's realistic tho, he does only have 1 flashlight:)
My ultimate gaming console is a modded XBOX with emulators for all the Nintendo consoles, and a 160 gig drive to house the emulators. Much easier to install, and heck, you can play XBOX games too:)
OH.. Well then I stand corrected, and pleasantly surprised.. I hope it is good.. could be the next Babylon5. Although I'm still remembering the failure of Space: Above and Beyond:(
Seems like a lot of people on this forum didn't read correctly. BG is just a 4-hour miniseries. Then it's over. Kaput. Just like Dune was. So don't get your panties in a wad about how "it will only last half a season", etc.. Cause it's not made to be a TV series.
A few years ago a doctor thought I had ADHD.. I was hyper all the time, couldn't focus on any one thing, and was just crazed. I took Adderall for a while, till the point that I was having heart palpatations (bad stuff that cocaine is). My blood pressure went up, and subsequently I cut down my caffeine intake to 1 12-ounce can a day. Within 3 days, my whole world changed.. All my symptoms went away, and I was much more focused and less "jumpy" all the time.
I swear.. Caffeine is an addictive substance, and can be the cause of a lot of mis-diagnosed ADHD things I bet (heck give a 32oz coke to a 10 year old and through him into a ADHD clinic).
I recently switched to Windows XP, because my Mac Powerbook is broken. So while I wait for that to get fixed, I borrowed a PC from work. I can't wait to get my Mac back.. oh wait, was I not supposed to say that? Do I still get paid?!
In looking at the specs for this, it seems that it is comparable to the $599 iPaq. The $299 one has a 400mhz processor, and all the same memory. Seems like a great deal if you ask me. I looked at the new iPaq h1xxx released today, and it only has a 200mhz processor.
Anyone know the difference, and could compare this $299 Dell Axim with say an iPaq 3975 which is at $799?
I totally disagree with this post. I consistently buy PC games over PS2 games cause the graphics and game depth are MUCH better than the console. And heck, the load times on a PC are much faster than the PS2 or Xbox dvd. Plus, I think the graphics are MUCH crisper at 1280x1024 21inch monitor than on a 640x480 television. Remember, TV's that have the resolution of monitors are way too high in the price range for the average human.
Hello? Not everyone in the world is running a UNIX variant, and certainly doesn't have all their mail coming to their localhost via fetchmail or whatever. The masses who get spam use things like outlook/eudora/whatever to connect to their ISP. Spamassassin is a tool that is directed at a very SMALL percentage of people who get spam, and more tech savvy at that. Us tech savvy people know how to block spam or just ignore it, but the real problem lies in all the AOL/RR newbies that don't have a clue.
The university I work for gets about 200 forwards from students and staff of "Please block this spam!" I so want to scream DELETE THE DAMN THING!.. but I don't.. I laborusly (sp?) go through the headers and add some IP or From address to our filter list and propogate it out to the mail servers.
Spam just needs to die.. we need to have severly punishing laws.. cause I get $65/hr wasted dealing with these a$$h0les.
CIS/MIS people = more money and they manage the CS folks.
Trust me.. I'm a CIS grad.. and I run the projects and have CS code monkeys working for me. They burn out quick, and new ones are ready for hire within days of getting out of college.
Having a CIS/MIS degree means you are much more valuable to a company, because you can both talk business and computers. While you may not know how to code C++ in your sleep, you know enough to translate to the big CIO's what's going on and what the bottom line is for the business.
And you can also get your Master's in CS if you really want to have the extra edge.
7 reasons this will never sell.

1. Noone wants to stand up for a max distance of 17 miles. Trust me.. America (or the world) is just that lazy.. *maybe* a sit-down model would go better. That "mail carrier" stuff is crap. He's got a big pack, and would strain his back.
2. You can't transport stuff with it.. groceries, friends, whatever. (Hop on my back Billy, we'll ride to the store at 8mph on the sidewalk)
3. Most people are in a hurry to get to wherever they are going. I'll take my car at 35-55mph over a 8mph scooter anyday.
4. Safety!? Hello.. I'm going to run over the first jackass that rides in the street in front of my car at 8mph when there is no sidewalk.
5. Safety #2 - China, 10000 people on the sidewalk.. One idiot bumps you from behind.. you bump the person in front of you.. old ladies fall down..break hips..etc etc..
6. 17miles per charge.. 8mph.. No thanks.. I'll take "Bikes" for $300 Alex.
7. Regardless of the technology, it is still just a glorified Sharper Image electric scooter. Throw in a seat, hover ability, dome for safety, and 200mile, 55mph ability on 5cent electrical charges, and you've got a sell.
If you get phone service out there, check into your local company.. maybe they can contract out with the big boys to provide you with a bunch of DSL trunks, which will get you some good bandwidth.
Did anyone else out there like the theme song besides me? I thought it was rather refreshing to have a totally new, inspirational song, along with space advancement photos. Made you kinda proud.. Actually reminded me of the Buck Rogers opening credits, and a little bit of the Aerosmith song from Armageddon. My girlfriend (who is definately not a trekkie or a sci-fi person) actually liked the pilot, so I think the producers might have done something good in getting new viewers in. I actually didn't have to explain anything to her.. and she was happy cause she said "I hate it when they throw out all that techno-jargon that I don't understand". So now I can actually watch Enterprise with my girlfriend. woohoo:)
But seriously, I think the pilot was great. Granted, there were some really stale scenes..but for a first run, it was cool.. and the little beagle dog just plain rocks. Really adds some character to Jonathan Archer. Gonna be great seeing that little puppy grow up for 7 years;) Unless they replace it with a dupe..
Have you ever thought to put yourself in Bush's shoes, where one minute you are in front of a bunch of school kids, the next you hear about terrorists blowing up the WTC and the Pentagon, and the next minute you are shuffled onto Air Force One because they have credible proof that there is a threat on your life? Then you have to hurry to get on TV and say something to the people. The man is HUMAN.. I was in damn tears seeing this crap, and Bush handled himself well the first time. He read a teleprompter because he wasn't watching CNN at the time like all of us and probably wasn't even up to speed at the time. Cut him some slack. His announcements later in the day were much more "from the cuff" than the 9am rushed TV job. I'm sure you wouldn't want his job right now either.
I don't appreciate you trashing our President in your comments concerning New York. Yes, the Mayor did a wonderful thing by going down there and helping, but the President was in danger, Air Force One was in danger, and for you to portray him as a coward and a man who "got on his best suit and stuck to the prompter" is just unpatriotic. Jon Katz you have truly offended me, and I'm sure many others.

Well, he's released v3 in 2 days, so when I looked at it 2 days ago, it was just the machinegun.. sorry.

Anyone can scan an entire book as a bunch of JPG's. Give me a .lit or ebook format and I'll be impressed!
Argh.. why can't I edit my own posts to fix spelling errors!!

I heard Iridium phones are going cheap.. How about purchasing the whole smear and having satellite modems ;)
If you get phone service out there, check into your local company.. maybe they can contract out with the big boys to provide you with a bunch of DSL trunks, which will get you some good bandwidth.
What? Really? It's a canned, remade Rod Stewart song? Oh crap that really blew it for me :(

Please post the mirrors again.. I forgot what the "usual" places were 'cept for ftp.kernel.org. Thx!
