Not because you didn't have the money to run exchange but because you didn't run a proper cost analysis before going ahead with all of your projects. If it wasn't exchange it would be something else. I mean really all of these features that outlook has are very nice, I use it on a daily basis, but people do get by with just a simple pop account and a paper calendar. It's a shame that people think they have to have all the nice features to run a business. I could be hard but really you don't need all of these features. If you do your company is probably large enough that you have the money to maintain the server.

  4. Re:Urrgh #2 on Violent Games 'Almost' As Dangerous as Smoking · · Score: 1

If experimenting on children by exposing them to violence is bad and wouldn't be go over very well then how did they do the original study?

I grew up when no everyone had video games, typically the bully at school never had a video game, I would say he had a predisposition towards violence before he started playing video games. He may have had a chemical imbalance or a bad home life. In the case I'm thinking of I'm pretty sure it was the second one. He would have loved to play grand theft auto when he was in school but it wasn't there. So what the original poster I believe was trying to ask is how did the study eliminate those types of children who either had some chemical imbalance, had another reason to be angry and violent, or other reasons. Was there any group of children that say live in an area where there was no video games(another country) that you could sample and see what the violence rate was in children with no video games.

I do believe if you have a problem as a child you will probably take playing video games too far. I've played cops and robbers when I was a child, that was alot more involved then a game of quake 3 arena. No parent ever thought that it was leading their children to more violence. Maybe they were wrong. But I don't understand their ethics, their methodology their sample group.

The article doesn't give any direct numbers besides how many people have consoles and TVs. The article makes a substantial claim that smoking is the only thing worse in society but at the same time doesn't give the numbers effected by violent media or smoking, or other things like cancer, which is probably worse than smoking. It says that people who tend to be exposed to violent media are more likely to be aggressive. What is their definition of aggressive? How much more aggressive did they become. This article fails to tell us any of these things.

I do believe that violent media will intensify aggressive behaviors, but I don't think it's epidemic. I would really like to read their study and see how all of my questions are answered. I'm sure almost all of them are, but articles can be misleading and half informative. Seeing the workings of a lab or a group you can see how the media thinks they understand and makes assumptions that can be half truths that are completely incorrect.

So pre-existing violent conditions they exist with chemical imbalances(excess testosterone for example which is known to cause aggression) or with other causes that create violence like abusive parents guardians or siblings.

I agree, I download music a lot, but I will still go out and buy a CD if it's a band I really like. I'll go to their concerts. I go to the theater more than most people do and I sometimes will buy dvds. But I doubt that I will ever stop downloading, it's hard to find some of the old movies or weird sci-fi movies from the 60's and 70's or the old classic horror movies that are all black and white.

The other thing is format, it's easier to download a divx movie and throw it on my creative zen then it is to go out and buy the dvd spend 1-3 hours to encode it to a format I can use. Then I'm still apparently breaking the law according to some people in the MPAA and RIAA.

The next figure is cost, I still go to the movies cause I enjoy it and I have the money, but when I was in highschool and university there was no way I could afford to go through the front doors of a theater to see more than a couple movies a summer. Now for the whole experience your paying about 15-20 bucks to go and thats if your not taking a date.

DVD and CD sales are interesting I find your paying a huge markup on that printed CD or DVD. I would get into it but if you don't know anything about the lawsuits on overpriced CDs and such your probably already stopped reading.

It comes down to the fact that costs for producing these media haven't gone up a lot(theaters might have to go digital so I will accept that they are trying to recoup the cost but I doubt it will go down after they do recoup it) but the end product seems to have. Tapes were decently priced, yet CDs have never fallen to the same price as tapes. I could be wrong but I doubt that it's harder to produce a group of CDs then a group of tapes.

Anyways I will pirate stuff until the day they make it accessible in multi format and lower their prices so that I'm not getting screwed over.

    so I agree with parent.

maybe they did some preliminary tests that showed that while CBD is in marijuana CBD is mostly found after the THC breaks down into it. Which most harvested marijuana isn't(for getting high anyways). Or that high heat from smoking the marijuana breaks down the compound before it is inhaled and makes it mostly useless.

What I'm saying is, is that trials don't have to be even started to know the best delivery method they have ways of testing concentrations of chemicals, and I'm sure they would have tested the best way to deliver the drugs. Besides I think some good old special brownies would be a better delivery method ;)

I wonder if that would be a good delivery method, it would eliminate my second theory.

I don't think the RIAA has been giving away music for free over radio. I thought you had to pay a license to distribute music over the radio? Those radio stations then make their money on advertisement, so everyone is making money(except the people with crappy ads).

If they started giving it away for free with no license then I would just list myself as a radio station and take all the free music that I could get.

Now the license might just be a broadcast license I'm not sure. my other question is do they have to pay for the CDs that they carry. Like a promo disc comes out from a label each month it has say 5 songs from 5 different new albums, don't they still have to still get the albums when they come out in order to play the whole library? I'm just curious.

I know someone who works at a radio station but I've never asked.

I also think that the Democrats have not done a job at all in showing that their were wrong doings from this government. If you ask me they could have spread a lot more information around to people to get them to realize how wrong this war and policies are. We on slashdot are fortunate we read news keep up to date in breaches of privacy and such, but the majority of people globally don't seem to care. They are too busy with other things, and it's not being pumped out into the mainstream media half as much as it should. The media is to blame, the American people are to blame and the government is to blame. In the end you bring it on yourself when you don't get involved. If your not involved you let these travesties go unchecked. Some of the major ones like treatment of prisoners are dealt with quickly because of pressure from media outlets and people. These are two large things, if they put pressure on the government they have no choice but to act, but that kind of pressure has not been put on anyone.

Maybe I'm wrong, maybe more Americans do seem to care than I think, but I think they are more concerned on what is going to happen on American idol than the Nation. People just don't care, and I don't think the Democrats are going to push something so controversial if it's not publicly charged.

That's a sad thing because in the end if the Democrats pushed for it, it would become publicly charged. So I don't think it will happen. The people won't act before the Democrats and the Democrats won't act before they know it is a safe topic. It's a bloody Mexican standoff.

Maybe this is a good thing for Linux as they don't have to worry about going to court for 10 years with their clients and developers wondering what will happen if Microsoft gets the upper hand. Even if it was something developers could change easily it's nice to know you won't be going to court because something is similar enough to a patent Microsoft owns. I don't care if "the law" actually saw him breaking the law it's still not right. I won't say I never speed, and I've never been in an accident that was caused by myself. But the rules are their to protect you and other people. You could be the best driver in the world(like you) and you could still get into an accident. It's not your fault but you still get into an accident. Some kid could dart out in front of you while your driving, someone could loose control of their vehicle and hit you. While your going 3 times the speed limit your chances of surviving are allot less now arn't they. If your on the highway it's probably not going to matter too much if you hit someone at 60mph or 150mph but in the city your generally going slow enough so as not to kill someone else.

The parent never said a damn thing about setting up cameras all over the country to watch for speeders and such, not sure where you get that from. I don't know what guns has to do with anything. Frankly you seem crazy.
