I may sound like a horrible person here, but I really think that as soon as we start screwing around with nature, we throw the balance out the window. The human population is already way too large as it is. Much like developing cures for disease, stopping hurricanes from hitting population centers is just another way to screw over any form of population control. We may save more lives now, but I bet you its going to cost us in the end.
I came up with this when i was too lazy to go out to taco bell:
Ground Beef Onion Cheese Salsa Fries
Brown the beef, add the onions and wait for them to get soft. Stir in the salsa, and grate as much cheese as you want. Add some chili powder and wuster sauce, salt + pepper. Stir, and pour on top of some cruncy fries. The fries get all nices and soggy.
Oh god..Not only do I have to smooth talk a girl into bed, but now I have to smooth talk her into selling me her liscence just so I can see what I'm doing..great.
How the editors seem to think that everyone who reads the post automatically knows what they're talking about. How many others had no idea what "blogging" meant?
I'm sorry, but my friends + chugging mountain dew + $3k laptop = disaster waiting to happen. Would YOU trust your prescious to a bunch of caffeine crazed LANers? (please ignore the fact that you yourself are probably a caffeine crazed LANer)
We could hook this up to an anime title and have a fan dub. I mean, nevermind all the voices would be changed into one computer one, and 50% of the story would be lost, and...oh...blast..
I just bought a kit for one of these and put it together. Works great for my iPod, except you have to shield the thing with some copper wire (if you're buying a kit). I find that everything causes the frequency to vary, from looking at it, to sometimes driving in the wrong direction (power lines I guess). They're great if you can contain them properly. And what beats soldering up something yourself?
Its sad, but I think this may be the "straw that broke the camels back" for me so to speak. Reading this article actually makes me want to format and install Linux RIGHT NOW. I just pray to Linus that it isn't too late.
NASA: "Man, I know humans are going to need somewhere else to live eventually, but that won't happen for a while, so I'll chill out and work on that later..."
Anyone have any ideas on exactly how much bandwidth a "bandwidth hog" uses? The article doesn't give specifics, so I'm curious what others think the limits will be set at.
I use rogers right now, and this pisses me off to no end. Bell Sympatico can't be installed in my neighbourhood, so I'm stuck with rogers if I want to use broadband (I can't even use Shaw or Cogeco).

Sony vs Modchips

It doesn't make any sense. Modchips help sales of the psx and ps2..why kill them? I doubt sony is under any legal obligation to make sure that the hardware they SELL to people is being used for legitamte purposes (ie. for playing properly-regioned DVDs). shouldn't it be the responsibility of the movie makers to go after these dvd playing chips?
My dad just recently bought the Nikon CoolScan IV ED, and I can honestly say it's an excellent product. It may not fit into her budget with a price of approx $1200 CDN (not sure exact price, but somewhere around there).
Because of the purchase, I decided to price out a decent photography system for him, and I can say it isn't cheap.
As for processors, I personally use an AMD and I have yet to find a problem with them. Beside the obvious overclockability (someone get Oxford on the phone), they perform better than Intel CPU, all at a lower cost.
I think the main problem will be storage and speed of accessing that data. SCSI is the easy solution, but it isn't exactly cheap. Maybe a good 7200 RPM drive is in order. Saw one today (100G Western Digital) at Futureshop for $249.99 CDN after mail-in reabate.
I'm sure something decent can be built for $1000US, but the hardest part will be trying to draw the line of price/performance. Perhaps waiting a bit and saving up to a $2000 budget would be in order. Not to mention that, in the time it takes to save up some more, prices could fall significantly.
Happy hunting

I had the idea for an easy bake oven a LONG time ago! Linkie
Please see this link I posted a while ago. Enjoy.

Is it just me, or is the screen just as cluttered as CNN at any given moment? I keep expecting the MS stock quote to slide accross the screen...
Apparently my college (George Brown) has a naked network. I never thought in a million years I would be reading something like that on Slashdot.
I love it. Time to h4x0r my grades.

Mmmm. Rosin Core...*drool*
At last, something that can run Unreal 2 at a decent speed...
Psh! Try soldering a pci card. Ask me if I'll ever do that again..

I keep thinking of Oompa Loompas. And the fact that its the nickname for the co-founders daughter...well...
Oompa Loompa doopity doo, we're going to change your browser for you...

We should all pool our money, buy the studio, and then we could make geek movies on geek terms. I call it Distributed FilmMaking(tm).
As long as it doesn't run on embedded windows:
"AirPump.exe has generated errors and will be closed. An error log has been created."

If the code were to become open sourced, wouldn't the result be a massive surge of clients using the network other than just kazaa?
