  1. IMO, the only way self-driving cars will be safe is if all cars are self-driving. they need to be able to talk with each other in order to be safe. Humans are so illogical, no way to to have an algorithm to predict what they are going to do at any given moment.

  2. that price is a bit steep. If you do not want to face the boss, just email :-) Unless I had another job lined up that money would be needed.

the phone does not have the microphones as the home and echo does so it is tough to use across the room. You are right, the biggest problem with Amazon Echos is their search BUT since google owns their own search it is easier for them to set things up for their device to find things easier and better.

  8. More shipped because of Walmart on Google Home Outships Amazon Echo for Second Quarter in Row · · Score: 3

The biggest reason for the higher shipments is because the google home is sold through Walmart. Every Walmart store I have been in has a large supply of them on display. Makes it easier to buy on impulse.

The closest place for me to get an echo is about an hour away. I guess Amazon do not want to sell their devices through their major competitor. You cannot even get the echo on Walmarts website.

The reality is, kodi is legit device that streams legal content. If you decided to ban everything that can be used for illegal activity, then there will be nothing left but to twiddle our fingers - as long as that is what we are using our fingers for.

how nice of apple to care for the developers...oh wait, don't apple get a nice share of the proceeds?

Anyway, I remember my first subscription based software, it was an antivirus. You buy the full version, then pay for a yearly update then after a couple of years, you pay full price again. Good thing there was free antiviruses available. I heard windows is about to go subscription, sure glad linux is still free.

I don't mind paying for an app to bypass the ads but to make it a yearly subscription would make me look for something else. True the developers need to get paid but give me something that has added value, not just a refresh look if subscription based.

  14. I have ordered through the echo but on Only a Small Percentage of Users Buy Stuff Through Alexa, Report Claims (arstechnica.com) · · Score: 1

I have placed three orders using the echo. you really cannot trust amazon to get the product you want at the cheapest price. Too many times I tried but the price was so much higher than if I went to Amazon online and order it from there.

There is also one other issue about ordering through the echo, security! I have it set up to require a pin number before the order will go through. You cannot use the pin when others are around because it would give them access to your credit card and they would be able to order on your dime. They need to come with a better way to keep your account secure.

  15. I wonder why I had not received an email about them shutting down. I would think their customers should have been notified first.

I use newton only because it it had a skill that would let amazon echo read my emails. I will miss it.

In the end, it killed itself, 100 bucks was way too high when there are plenty of other email services out there. No way I would pay that much. Fortunately I was locked in at a much lower rate. Oh well, back to searching for another one that will pick up email from all my different accounts and read them to me through the echo too.

that free delivery is not that free. next time you are on amazon and see a prime price, look at the third party prices for the same item. Not all but a few are actually cheaper than amazon and when you add in the shipping it is about the same.

what I found interesting, a few months ago, I was looking for a tablet. I found one where the manufacturer's retail price was 399 but on amazon, the prime price was 429. well above the manufacturers retail price. And this was an amazon sale, not fulfilling for another or third party price.

From where I stand, you are paying for shipping twice if you have prime. Most items I get are over 35 bucks so I still get free shipping, and I can wait an extra day or two for the shipment.

I have been playing around with eversync lately once I heard that xmarks was shutting down. It gets frustrating when the user will not answer all the questions asked about their computer or they refused to try some of the fixes for whatever reason, what makes it worse is when they are also getting help from several other forums resulting in wasting time where others could be help or conflicts because we dont know about the other possible fix being tried.

too many times questions could be answered a whole lot faster using google than waiting for someone to respond to your tech question. some forums are strictly moderated but they will allow some of what you may consider unhelpful comments because without seeing those comments, were they really unhelpful, possible solutions that did not work or did you not understand what they were asking of you?
