If you're implying that's the parents.. then this is even more disturbing. We do NOT need a generation of kids growing up relating more to a disembodied voice provided by (and monitored, analyzed, monetized, and directed) some company like Google or Amazon. You think too many people have little regard for their own privacy now? Just wait until those kids grow up, thinking that "Alexa is their friend" and trust it as much (if not more) than they do other humans. Sound like something out of a dystopian future scifi movie? You're right, it does; can you say "Cautionary t
alexa is no difference than sitting the kid in front of the tv. and the digital cable box/smartv also has a privacy problem. at least there is some interaction with alexa. the only interaction with most digtal cable box/smartv is by using the remote control.
Not so much help with reading or physical activities, though.
At first I thought that these kids were just using Alexa as an ersatz teddy bear. Then I thought it over a bit more, and came to the conclusion that I'm right, except that this teddy only listens in the hope of generating sales leads.
alexa does have some exercise skills and there have been studies that shows audiobooks does help with reading and listening skills so there should be no problems using alexa to read to the child.
Just like anything else, parents don't need to rely on alexa keeping the kid entertain.
at least alexa does not tell the kid to shut up and leave it alone. I can see alexa helping with speech at that age. the kid must be able to speak clearly and build up a vocabulary in order for alexa to follow commands.
There have been reports that alexa has help stroke victims with their speech too.
class action lawsuits over the years, have only benefited the lawyers. while consumers get pennies or coupons, the lawyers get millions in cash. doubt anything will change, the lawyers will always win since they have all the money.
sounds interesting but I hate to see the menu prices and the delivery charges then you need to tip. could get expensive. Personally I like going to restaurants and eat. it is good to have young pretty ladies talk and pay attention to me since I have gotten old and fat. Yea, I know they are only doing it for tips but still...
seems to me the price has a lot to do with keeping the phones longer, especially since the the prices have gotten so high. I was replacing my phone every two years, now it will be three years because of financing through at$t
I tend to agree, they should have dismissed her quietly. By suing, they are actually announcing to the world their own ambassador prefers apple phones over samsungs.
not surprising, back in the 90's I ran a bbs and had a small program called lisa installed. it acted like a real person. I would sit there and watch conversations people would have with it. One time a preacher was on my board and was talking to lisa, then he started witnessing to it. I had to break the connection since I knew lisa was not real and was embarrassed for the preacher.
if people were fooled back then, it would not be hard to imagine them being fooled today.
no it is not. the courts has ruled that a search warrant is needed to get pin numbers and passwords but one is not needed for fingerprints. The authorities believes the justification for not needing one for fingerprints is the same for face scans.
tell me a store that does not sell their own private brands? what store would not place their own brands in a prominent location in order to sell? Why is the story about Amazon but not Walmart, Target, Kroger, or other major chains that does the same online and in their brick and mortar store?
too bad they will not end bonuses to management. In the end, I guess it is better to get a more consistent and higher paycheck than relying on bonuses you may or may not get.
If you had it call a friend, and they took time to clean things up before calling for help, they could also be in legal limbo and possible civil lawsuits for not getting emergency medical help needed immediately.
sounds like something china is doing. they have a social score and if works a lot like credit scores and has the same effect on their lives. is this what apple is really aiming for start small with emails???
after skimming over the comments, it look like most feel amazon echos are security risks and evade your privacy. They are right. depending on what you name the different devices and what devices you have, amazon knows every time you go to the bathroom, they know when you go to bed, they know when you turn on your tvs, they know your shopping habits, they know what music, radio station you listen to and more.
However, what doesn't these days, There are so many places and devices these days that's collecting info about you that most likely everything amazon is collecting is already known. I have the amazon echo in just about every room of my apartment. I have a google home just to troubleshoot the echo. I have absolutely no problems with either. and I am not concerned about what info it may or may not be collecting.
I am taking amazon at its word, the echos may be listening but not recording until it hears key words.
Going over the new devices amazon is coming out with, there are only one I might get and that is the echo plus but only because it will still work when the internet is offline. maybe not play the news or music but at least I won't have worry about turning things on/off manually:-) me iz getting lazy in my old age.
brick and mortar stores does the exact same thing. they also have paid product placement and will place their own brands above others on the shelves. Quite a few displays at the front of the stores, at the register, end caps, or in the middle of the aisles are paid product placements whether it is through special discounts or payments. I really see nothing wrong with Amazon doing it other than it can be frustrating at times when looking for something specific and cheaper.
It looks interesting but pretty thick. will make it harder to sneak into work. wonder about the fold, if it will eventually crack and/or cause dead spots.
most of my clocks change automatically, and those that don't, about half are wrong til the next change since I am too lazy to change them ":-)

at$t is looking out for their property, directv. I guess they are going to make their competition pay a premium for the service.

sounds like the makings of an Apple commercial.
could we soon see all third party ink cartridges be declared counterfeit if apple is able to get away with this.

wonder how many people will be fired today for sneaking in phones into their workplace.
wonder how many people will run off the road because some high pitch sound startled them while driving.
wonder how many people will drop their phone because they were scared silly by a high pitch sound.
it is going to get interesting...they really did not do a good job advertising the test.
thought it would be pornhub that would eat up most of the bandwidth :-)

well, since the cat is out of the bag, only idiots will be caught.

not going to happen until they figure out how microwaves and wifi can work together without interference.

that is one way to get rid of riders that don't tip
