I was asking myself the exact same thing. And is paying $300 for an something that you will use for 3,4,5 or more years really alot of money? Games still run on Win98 and that's 5 years old! For comparison I spend $1200 anually on cable TV and cable internet. $199 is peanuts-it's a days work, or at worst a few days work. It's not going to break anyones bank or cause children to go hungry, so if people want to spend their $$ on Windows then why should we care?
Windows will never go away, but I predict that before the end of this decade Linux desktop use will equal Windows. That sounds like a long time but like the switch from vinyl to CD, or vhs to dvd, change doesn't happen overnight.
Who is the meathead who modded this down? Huh? The comments in the parent are right on the money; if you cant handle a theme change, or hearing a sound when a button is clicked confuses you then you are too stupid to use a computer.
I think you drank too much beer when you were up here. Please tell me where in Canada you can get cable TV AND Internet for $40 Canadian! I live in Ontario and I pay $40 for broadband cable, $40 for cable TV, and another $20 for digital cable. That's $100 not $40. The cheapest internet/digital package I can get is $80. I looked at the prices in Calgary and the prices are similar. (and yes I know that's still cheap compared to most parts of the world-i'm not complaining, I'm commenting)
You are correct about the investment in infrasturcture. Places out west offered adsl in the early 90's when most ppl had slip accounts, and most ppl didn't even hear about the internet. Saskatchewan upgraded a huge chunk of its' copper wire to fiberoptics in the 80's in order to bring data communications to rural communities! How's that for foresight? One thing I notice is that there is a big difference between western canada and eastern canada. Western Canada is quick to adopt new technologies and innovations, while Eastern Canada has old school thinking-if it aint't broke don't fix it. For example, in Quebec many pay phones are still rotary.
A good sysadmin would know that pumping iron and working on getting his blackbelt is simply part of the job. Heck, I keep sawed off ol' betsie under my desk just in case some riffraff wanna enter my network turf.
It's not hygenic, but we already touch so many objects in our daily lives that are touched by hundreds of ppl every day, one more wont make a difference-doorknobs, buttons on ATM's, handles on a bus, door handles, pens used to sign your name when paying by credit card, debit card scanners, elevator buttons, just to name a few.
True, that makes sense and I was aware that networks know how often ppl are willing to put up with commercials, but networks also realize by now that ppl surf in droves when commercials are on (I don't think it's just me.) If they all show commercials at the same time then another channel may just happen to show something of interest and snag a guy who's flipping thru the channels. I don't think it's a big conspiracy but it's something that all marketing departments realize.
If NBC shows commercials every 8 minutes, and ABC shows commercials every 7 minutes, NBC is gonna realize that ABC viewers are flipping to NBC, watching their show for a minute, then flipping back to ABC all without viewing any commercials on NBC. If NBC moves to showing commercials to every 7 minutes, as the viewers flips though the channels he may stop at NBC and watch one of their commercials if something catches his eye.
Remember, these are companies that said not too long ago that if viewers don't watch commercials then they are thiefs.
Of course it could just be perception too. Five years ago I had 40 channels, nowadays I have 200 plus. If 20% of all stations show commercials at the same time then in 1997 8 channels had commercials at the same time. Today, it would be 40 channels, so it may just appear that the proportion is higher.
Ever notice now it seems when there is a commercial on the channel you're watching and you go to surf, all the other channels you watch are showing commercials too? I don't remember this happening five years ago.
I have nothing to hide from microsoft, the government or anyone
If you have nothing to hide from anyone then share your drives post your IP here so we can all take a look-see. Obviously give only read-only access so you cant use the excuse that someone might modify your files and screw around with your system. You shouldn't mind anyone taking a look, right?
Since you have nothing to hide, in any further posts please include your full name, address, and phone number in the message.
MS is being forced to carry and install software they don't want and won't use. They've been doing that to us for years, now let's see how much they like it!
This reminds me of a skit from the old SCTV series where they had an advertisement where you could buy the audio tapes of some famous English Skakespearean actor, Sir Lawrene Oliver I think it was, reading the names from the white pages in the phone book. The guy was up stage in front of a podeum saying rather empatically "Adams, Bill C....Adams, Brenda....Adams, Charlie" and so on.
If I want to join a club, it isn't going to be Mandrake. I use Mandrake, and I actually like it quite a bit. If I were to pay for anything it'd be RedHat though
You have got to be kidding? I see no reason to 'donate' to a corporation, but you use Mandrake for free, you like it, but you insist on not paying for their product that you use, then lambast them here because they want money from their users? It's people like you that are the reason why linux distributors are hanging on by a thread. You use the product, you probably download it the day a new version is released, install it on multiple workstations, but too cheap to pay for the product.
I bet 10% of the users for any distro actually pay for it. If linux users weren't so cheap and they could get that up to 50% even then instead of using all of their energy to stay afloat they might be able to take some resources and try to make some inroads into territory currently held by MS. If you use a distro, pay for it-Mandrake, Redhat, Suse, whatever.
This is the first Terminator movie in over 10 years and the third in 19 years-I'd hardly call that a cash cow. For comparison how many Star Trek movies and series were developed or in production since 1991? 4 TV series and 5 movies if I count correctly. Star Trek is a cash cow, well was, up to the last movie.
I think we should pay the RIAA for the revenue they loose when we aren't listening to the radio or playing CD's. If I read a book for an hour that can potentially be 3 CD's I did not listen to ==$45 of lost revenue the RIAA has to makeup somewhere else.
Thanks for the morning laugh. :)
The title was written by a numpty
I learned a new word today!
...or getting many millions to be able to afford lawyers and stand through the trial
Millions of dollars?? Every trial is not like OJ or MJ!
Holy cow, someone had a nerve struck!
So please explain to us how we can anticipate what someone will say next when I am listening to the radio?
Or "weapons of mass delusion"
Oh crap that's funny!

I know, that's funny as hell.
How are you gentlemen? Are you Captain, Mechanic, or Cats? This situation is not for great justice. You know what you doing, move zig!

The original poster must be proud...that further posts are trying to imitate his.:P

This movie is purely milking the cash cow

Ah, so you mean if people could have better quality warez, they'd stop supporting the MPAA
No, what he means is that until we all have a 360" wide TV in a livingroom that seats 200 we still have to go to movies to get that effect.
