Except that cell phones made the most exciting moment in "Neuromancer" obsolete (I won's spoil it for those who haven't read, but it involves a bank of pay phones)
GP is right, it's not going to look so cutting edge any more. I mean, where can you sell 8 MB of RAM for enough cash to get high?
You're absolutely correct. Been there, done that with all but the flexible screen and data in the cloud. I wonder if the GP has even seen the iPad TV commercials? You're not going to want to share your photos, watch a movie or read a book on a watch-sized screen. Commercialization of this device is no threat to iPad.
One control-freak company wants to sell cheaper books, while another control-freak company wants to sell more expensive books?
I know which weevil/weasel I will go with.
You have noticed that the company that wants to sell the cheaper books is doing so at a loss, haven't you? Just how long to you believe that business model to be sustainable? Clearly, Amazon is betting that they can keep this up just long enough to drive all of the competition out, at which point, they will be free to set prices at whatever profit level they wish. NOW which weasel do you want to support?
You are fundamentally correct, but I feel the need to make one comment. the settlement would actually lead to the following:
If this is allowed to go forward it creates a precedent that if Google make even the vaguest effort to contact the original owner of a work, Google may go ahead and publish (and profit) from it provided that Google set aside a portion of those profits for the owner should they ever claim it. This could be anything from music, to your child's artwork, to that naughty sextape you made in college.
If you wanted to do this, you would have to follow the same steps as Google: infringe, get sued, argue for a settlement permitting the infringement.
That is incorrect. It'll run all of the iPhone software right out of the gate. This includes an excellent implementation of Documents to Go. I won't bother with links, but there's also WriteRoom, TextGuru, QuickSheet, MarinerCalc, etc. FileAid is a Free reader program that also supports OpenOffice.
I'm aware of the appeal process but is this even an appeal? It sounds more like they're saying "we refuse to accept the court's decision" which is not quite how I recall law in the United States to work
Well, IANAL, but they can't appeal--because they won the case.
My "recreational" computer is a G4 Powerbook running 10.4, and I've found that realistically, Mozilla stopped caring over a year ago. Even chatting in Facebook is an exercise in futility. Switching to Safari 4 was a no-brainer.
Easy enough to get rid of fitness-related activies using this rationale. If a basketball team has a "captain," or they ever have informal "tournaments," doesn't that also mimic the gang structure?
Comparing diesel to gasoline, which is going to be less likely to cause problems with engine fouling due to the age of the fuel in the tank? TFA mentions going three weeks between fill-ups, and three weeks is the limit I've always been told for keeping gasoline in storage without adding something like Sta-bil. (also, if 40 miles is the electric range per charge, I can see somebody like me, with a 10-mile roundtrip daily commute, going 6-8 weeks between gasoline fills.)
Vernor Vinge first mentions the Technological Singularity in the January 1983 issue in the First Word. I've got that one in a closet along with all the first 3 years except the first issue.
Would you like my copy of the first issue? It's the only issue *I* have. It's nearly complete, but I have to confess that in my pure teenage geekiness, I cut out and used the Enterprise iron-on page ("A spaceship has landed on Earth--it came from Rockwell").

That's Seton Hill, not Seton Hall.
Are you sure you aren't BadAnalogyGuy?
Here's the analogy: If you're a deacon at your church, and post to FB saying you're God, you should expect to be fired.
people talk so damn loud on their cell phones, could it?

Uh, actually two more
Huh? How long ago did synaptics patent teleportation?
If you define videoconferencing and (apparently) built-in active noise reduction as "nothing much," I'd hate to see what it takes to impress you.
Huh? Tron actually has a win state. Score didn't matter--it was all about being the victor.

Or Mojave?

It seems to me I remember hearing similar arguments in favor of poll taxes. The poor should enjoy the same copyright protections as the rich.

Thanks, Dwight

Good to know, thanks.
As an actual impacted user, I can attest that Safari 4 is much faster, and far less freeze/crash-prone than Firefox 3.X on a G4/10.4 machine.

Which is a blatant lie. Read this article for some background on this issue going back to 2007. I'm sure that Toyote "got reports" before August 2009.

Not funny; that's insightful and/or informative.

Countdown to Zuckerberg's SSN being posted here in 3....2....
