Imagine learning DOS commands by randomly typing in command looking things.
Oh yes, the good old times. I remember that when I started doing all these things I did not understand more than maybe ten words of English. That way, I learned both the English language and how to use a computer... Anyone remember the MS-DOS 'help' command? MS-DOS is the best documented OS I've seen until today. Maybe there were only 30 executables on the system, but every single on was very well documented...
We (the Tcl core developers) have had problems in the past with Stow, mainly because it relies on being able to specify the installation process at 'make-install' time instead of normal 'make' time, leading to messed up baked-in paths....
Why is this a problem with stow? You probably shouldn't hardcode paths into the binary, as that may lead to problems like this.
Also, come a year and a half after purchase, say my memory has a problem. Well, the system is out of warranty. With my desktop, the memory happens to have a lifetime warranty.
I have always asked myself what the purpose of 'lifetime warranty' is. Because, in my world, when a part breaks for some reason, it's lifetime is over...
Those groups are "underrepresented" among engineers!
You're right, they are. But most of that is cultural[0]:

That's probably because gtk-gnutella, like many other gnutella clients, still does not implement the superpeer (or what was it called again?) system like LimeWire, BearShare or gnucleus. Probably you should try one of those.
The screenshots on the Arianne page were taken do demonstrate the variety of OSes Arianne runs on, so the whole desktop is shown. Makes sense, does it?
When did I say that 'Saving private Ryan' glorifies war? Or Violence? This movie especially shows the bad sides of war like no other one. Not that I'm implying that there are any good sides...
The difference is that sexuality is something we all want and violence is considered bad. Sometimes I believe that americans would like it to be the other way round.
if you carry a red armband with a hakenkreuz on it you will get fined (and hopefully also questioned by passengers)
Actually, most passengers will go by pretending they didn't see anything. There's another kind of people: The left winged ones, who will probably do worse things than fining you.
People even get convicted for telling politically incorrect jokes in this country (Germany, that is. I live there).
Consider our past. Many black people here will always shudder when they hear the word 'neger' (that's a bit like 'nigger'), because that's the word the nazi's used. Apart from that, I've never been or have heard of someone who wasn't able to express his opinion, even if that opinion was 'turks out'. Most people just don't do that because they actually like the idea of having friends. [end rant]
There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year, when the troublesome "ph" will be replaced with the "f". This will make words like "fotograf" 20% shorter.
This will probably make you laugh, but we did this to the german language just two years (or so) ago.
The G400 has become unsupported? When was that. Pity, that, because I was quite happy with the hardware accelerated 3d graphics that I could enjoy since the release of XFree86v4.
What I mean is that, well, it is a nice effect and all, but why would you want to have the whole app transparent. IMHO This should be done by the application programmer so that only those parts of the GUI that actually have use for it have transparency.
Of course SuSE is not bloated! Except you cannot install it on systems with less than 500 megs of free harddisk space... Did you know that there are distro's that take only 50 megs or less (debian & slack)?
Most people I know have an MD player here in Germany, rather than mp3 (and I know many people). But they just copy their CD's to blank MD's and I've never seen any prerecorded MD's in the stores.
The problem is: The user needs some basic programs for the system to be usable. One could say, okay, this software can be downloaded from the web. But how do you want to download something if you don't have a browser (or at least an ftp client)? So, of course, MS bundles IE and Windows (noone, really, would think they'd put Netscape in the "distribution". That'd be plain silly). Also true for most other programs/utilities. It is the same with some Linux distribs. They do a "standard" installation, and if you want to use some other software, you've got to install it by yourself, what many new Linux users just won't do because they don't know that, for example, GNOME exists if they use KDE.
Paying for received sms seems a little bit, well, dumb to me. Who really wants to pay for all of the sms spam they receive? I sure don't.

Or, perchance, a mormon.
"we are getting ready to package and release the real GNU system."
I guess they really mean it. Make yourself ready, for it won't last another decade 'til GNU.

The Tokay geckos he was talking about can grow to a length of up to 35cm. I have yet to see a cockroach reaching half the size of that.
it requires zero configuration once you're configured properly.
Well. Yeah.

In what way is this not 3D? Only because the third dimension only has such a low resolution that doesn't mean that there isn't a third dimension.
If this CD is CDDA compliant, then why won't it play in my computer's CD drive, which is also?
unless someone can tell me how to use a FAT partition as if it were ext2, so i can execute there
You might want to try either 'man mount' or 'man mke2fs'. Or umsdos.

You remember when that was? Most of us don't know about Wolfenstein 3d nowadays...

GNU/Microsoft winux!
