I've got both PSP and DS.

The start-up time of a PSP can be a pain, therefore I never turn it off, just put it to sleep which gives me a near instant start-up. Playing for 20 minutes on the train every morning and evening is fine.

However, when playing, my right thumb hides the power light which starts flashing when the battery is almost empty. This means I always run out of battery before I can save. most of the time this is not a problem since after recharging I'm back where I left of, but not always.

The bugs in GTA is another story.

Browing the net on a PSP is great, but writing is a real pain. They could've at least put work completion in. Most mobile phones have it.

  7. Re:Support to open formats on The Future of MP3 and Surround · · Score: 2, Interesting

I did this. I switched from MP3 to Ogg a few years back, and boy do I regret it.

    A few examples:

I bought a Kiss DVD player because it plays Oggs, however a few percent of my Ogg files makes the player hang. Since you can fit 800 songs on a DVD, it just doesn't work. Sometimes re-encoding them fixes this. I'v been in contact with the manufacturer but got no help there.

I got an Ogg-player for Palm Tungsten, however it doesn't allow you to delete files, so I have to re-format the MMC every time I want to change my selection.

And so many gadgets just doesn't play Ogg.

Now I'm back to MP3. It might be lagging behind technically, but it work everywhere. A bit like "vi".

Modern graphic games are not free from this. When I played Super Mario Sunshine (brilliant game btw): This was the first Mario gane I ever played. A lot of things didn't make sense. You learn the method to their madness after a while.

You pick up a fruit and walk past an egg. A dinosaur pops out. You sit up on the dinosaur and go for a ride. The dinosaur can barf fruit juice. Have the dinosaur eat the correct type of fruit and barf on a fish. The fish turns into a slab of some kind. Jump on the slab as it rises into the air. Do this a few times to get to the big, rotating star.

Don't buy a cheap motherboard. I bought two AsRock because a Linux shop in London (geekstop.co.uk) sold them as the low-end mobo. I never got the NIC to work on one, Linux won't shut down properly,

but the BIG PROBLEM is that whenever the CPU is busy, the sound is really crap, this includes playing games, and films. I can't run SETI and listen to music!

By the way, don't buy from GeekStop.co.uk. They don't know what they are doing. They installed faulty memory which showed up on a simple memory-tester. They sell hardware with Linux-problems.

For what it's worth. We play UT2k4 every day at the office, mostly Windows, but one Mac and one Linux client as well. We practically allways play the same thing: Onslaught, human vs. bots.

    Wishlist:

    * chat while loading (some PCs takes 40 seconds to load a level)

    * bots = base + value * players (currently bots = value * players, can use floats, such as value=1.8, keep this, but add base)

    * ability to add or remove bots in a running game, as per Quake III

How about if you could get the original 32 (or whatever) tracks of the recordning all separate, before mixing and effects. Then add effects and mixing as separate, overridable information allowing you to mix and add effects as you see fit.

You could remove the drums from your favorite albums and add your own, singing with you favourite group, e.t.c.

Preferably one could get the MIDI files for synthesizers for further experimentation.

As added value the original artists of the band could all be lead vocalists on different tracks. Pick the one you like best!

Of course, you could always listened to the album the default way, but who would?

Now, THAT'S how music should be sold in the modern age.

  17. Re:MMO Might and Magic? on Might & Magic Creator Joins Garriott At NCSoft · · Score: 2, Interesting

Not neccessarily. You could have a set time limit for your turn, say 10 seconds, and everyone have to plan their move simultaneously.

This is basically what MMORPGs does today, but slower. I've heard that Anarchy Online, for example, updates once every second, in effect making it turn-based.

Of course with more units, you lose control, but one could make up for that by assigning default actions for idle units, which is how most RTSs works anyway.

I seem to remember enjoying playing CivNet in simultaneous mode a few time; same thing but on a smaller scale.
