    Great Community- this is not like CS, where it's all the 13373573R5 mouthing off. It's got a RPG-worthy community.
    I wonder if that'll still be true after being posted on /.

    How do I protect my sighting of Elvis?
    Copyright law does not protect sightings. However, copyright law will protect your photo (or other depiction) of your sighting of Elvis. Just send it to us with a Form VA application and the $30 filing fee. No one can lawfully use your photo of your sighting, although someone else may file his own photo of his sighting. Copyright law protects the original photograph, not the subject of the photograph.

    The important point to take is that 0.999... does not have a final 9, ever. You can simply say that as 0.999... reaches its final 9, it becomes closer and closer to 1. Since it doesn't end, the error becomes so small that there is no longer any error.

    I woke up last night, and for some damn reason this 1 = .999~ thing stuck in my head. Since there isn't a number between the two, it prooves that they are equal. Except if you take
    1 * 2 = .999~ * 2

    Then they aren't equal, because the last 9 * 2 would be 18. So 2 != 1.9998.

    I just thought I'd share. Also, all ACs are gay.

    That has firefox stop them for me. I want to stop them on my own. In IE I could simply hit the ESC key.

    There are times when I want to have animated gifs and times I don't. Changing a about:config value is good for semi-perminant changes,like setting middlemouse.ContentLoadURL to false to allow the middle mouse button to close a tab instead of pasting what is in the clipboard.

    This is the simple beauty of FreeBSD's ports collections and Gentoo's portage. For FreeBSD, you can use KDE to select what program you want, click install, wait, and run it. Gentoo is similar, and all depedencies are taken care of.

    RPM and deb files are completely useless when these two systems are here to replace them. I would only tell people to install Gentoo for linux.

    Weaver is also assuming that there is something in the windows source code that can be exploited. Let's face facts, the chances are good that some buffer underrun can bring a computer to its knees remotely, but what are the odds that it hasn't been fixed and patched sometime ago.

    Weaver was trying to indicate that several backdoors that had been programmed into Windows would now be discovered and exploited. That just seems unlikely, but my firewall is up anyway.
