  1. They're still 3-5 generations too early for this... the performance of phones simply isn't up to snuff yet, but it's getting there very quickly.

I'm sure a few folks will buy it, but there's no way it'll be common place before 2020.

  2. How do people still lose data in a time when so many options available to limit or even prevent it... synchronous or asynchronous replication to off site storage, snapshots, raid 6... we have the technology available to make data loss nearly unheard of... it's relatively easy to plan and implement, and it works... and yet morons everywhere STILL manage to lose data...

  3. US labor shortage? on Indian IT Sector Warns Against US Visa Bill (reuters.com) · · Score: 2

There is no such thing... we have plenty of people willing and able to work.

The biggest challenge we face is that we will need to train workers to take their places... this is because India has made skilled workers so cheap in the past couple of decades that US companies has little or no incentive to hire entry level folks here in the states and train them, and individuals saw little to no value in paying for this training themselves let alone spending years in school for a job that was already taken by some goon in another country.

  4. Because most smart folks don't want to be cops, and most cops aren't all that smart...

  7. Is Eddie Bauer still a thing? I remember checking that place out years ago and never went back, nothing but a bunch of overpriced garbage.

  14. Until electric cars have better range and there are more charging stations installed they will remain a niche market that few will have any interest in.

  17. What a joke... on Tesla Preps Bigger 100 KWh Battery For Model S and Model X (theverge.com) · · Score: 1

I know they have to start somewhere, but electric cars still suck ass when it comes to range and convenience.

I can get in my 8000lb truck and drive 600+ miles before needing to refuel... and I can stop at nearly any fuel station to fill her up with 30+ gallons in 2-3 minutes(diesel pumps tend to be MUCH faster than gas pumps).

Then there is the problem of towing and hauling, with the technology available in the near future I can't see any way for an electric vehicle to be even remotely as capable as one that runs on dead dinosaurs.

I might be open to a heavy duty hybrid truck, or even a diesel electric setup like what we have on trains... but unless they drastically improve battery technology purely electric vehicles will only ever fill a niche market. And quite frankly, by the time they improve batteries to the point where they might be able to compete the oil companies will probably be manufacturing hydrocarbons from water and waste CO2 and selling it at the pump because batteries will likely never have the same power density as hydrocarbon based fuels.

  24. Sorry for the false alarm guys, seems they accidentally forgot to take into account the gravitational pull of my nuts. ;-)

  25. Apple will simply assert that they were copied, do their best to prove it... and if they lose they just appeal after having a back room meeting with somebody that matters advising China that they are more than happy to take their production elsewhere if somebody doesn't step in and make this little problem go away.
