    You can also uninstall the .NET update with an Ubuntu CD.

    Removes a few other Windows vulnerabilities at the same time.

    And speeds up your machine.

    I recommend it.

    Which programming language helps you write (and maintain) useful code the fastest?

    Which programming language COMPILER helps you compile code the fastest?

    Which programming language COMPILER produces the fastest binaries?

    Three different questions about performance. Only the first one is about "programming languages" per se.

    I find that I can whip up a prototype program faster in PHP than in C (using PHP in its command line mode). But C binaries run much faster than PHP scripts. So it depends on whether I want faster development time or faster execution time.

    It misses some major suppliers of pre-installed Linux boxes in Australia - e.g. Pioneer Computers and Kogan.

    Scroll down to "Operating Systems" and choose between Ubuntu (+ AU$0) and Windows XP (+ AU$89) and Vista (+ AU$189) or Vista Ultimate (+ AU$349).

    That is how Dell, HP, Lenovo and all the other vendors should be selling OSs. That is how a *free* market works.

    MacOSX is also pretty hard to install on any machine that it didn't come already installed on.

    That stops a lot of potential users from trying it out. Apparently you have to buy special MacOSX-compatible hardware - it doesn't just work "out of the box" with standard PC hardware.

    Plus that one download could be used to install an unlimited number of computers, so even counting people that complete the download might not be correct.

    Plus there's people like me who download multiple different releases of multiple different distributions just to try them out, or to use them on servers, but still use Windows on the desktop.

    Plus there are people like me who use Linux 100% of the time on my laptop, work desktop and home desktop - but all of those machines came with Windows pre-installed, and counted as Windows sales.
