IMHO Silent Hill 2 is scarier than Silent Hill throughout...Silent Hill does have moments that outpace SH2 in scariness though, particularly the first trips through Midwich Elementary and the hospital on the Eastern map. Maybe it's due to the graphics and art direction but I think the "normal" Silent Hill, in SH1 anyway, is scarier than the "nightmare" version of SH1. SH2's "nightmare" world is as scary as its "normal" world...that first walk into town, with the blood marks on the street and the faint scratchings of the Patient Demons in the distance, ah. The long walk down the tunnel beneath the Silent Hill Historical Society is great for scraping up your nerves...I could go on & on about SH2...
No, not really. Not me anyway...I have managed to get Panther to run on a '99 iBook with a 300 MHz G3 and a measly 164M RAM, by turning off the window minimization "Genie Effect" candy, by setting the Desktop changing feature to change wallpaper every day, as opposed to every five seconds, etc.
One may ask "why use OS X on a machine that was never meant to run it?" This is Slashdot, right?
I look forward to the 6.9 LE 'grade...it requires the $75 6.7 'grade, though, according to the tiny print sys requrements...I wouldn't mind some UI improvements, either. DP has a swanky look to it. Most all of these audio programs end up being a mess of software buttons, eh?
That's my approach to the PT upgrades, too. Other studios/engineers can play with the bugs & fixes while I muck about with band rehearsal.WAVs etc. My Digi002/Powerbook rig is still on Pro Tools 6.4. I felt too cheap to buy the 6.7 upgrade this Summer. I will probably get the 6.7/6.9 upgrades sometime this Fall...taking a break from a World of Warcraft subscription will help;)
Yes, I have seen Raising Arizona too many times, and, yes, I will probably still purchase & use Macintosh machinery after "The Switch." That is to say, I'll still use them if they're still meeting my needs & desires, which currently involve:
a) compatibility with Pro Tools b) compatibility with Blizzard's games c) compatibility with M$ Office
If the post-Switch machines meet these needs, and are as fun to use as my 15" end-of-'03 Powerbook, then I will likely purchase & use 'em. Why the hell not?
Yeah, I always wondered about that one, at the end of _Dark Knight Returns_...how many stocks did he liquidate for that piece? I will have to read it again...
The above poster's suspicion about the Northen US is dead-on, in Washington State, anyway. My fiance and I have the cheapest analog cable TV connection that Comcast will sell. We get CBC on channel 99 in southern Seattle, and have seen a couple ads for the new Dr. Who. I will have to remember to set the VCR (how quaint?)...
Maybe never...I stayed home when Episode II played the Cinerama. I still haven't rented it on DVD. I may check out a library copy at some point, maybe not. I saw Episode I at the Cinerama during the first month...kinda soured me on the saga. The only reason I might want to see Episode III is to see what might be the most exciting parts of the "Vader origin story." I don't think I'm going to cough up $10 for the privilege of seeing it in a theater, though. Well, maybe I'd see it at my local http://www.columbiacitycinema.com/...eh. I think I've grown too old & jaded for the whole thing.
The game looks like fun, and I would enjoy trying it out. I don't have the resources to roll a Windows box to run it at the moment. Of course the initial release is Windows-spec, that's just the name of the game, so to speak. I did check the Guild Wars support pages and got the "we'll let ya know" message in re: "other operatiing systems." If they port it to OS X, or if I somehow stumble across disposabe income (maybe by selling one of my old bass guitars or something) I'll try it out...
Oh yeah...with the Dock interaction in FKA use the left & right Arrow Keys to roll through Dock apps. You'll figure it out, if you ever give it a chance.
Full Keyboard Access in Mac OS X is great...I use it to get to the "Recently Used Apps" submenu under the blue Apple in the top left corner.
Control-F1 toggles OS X's Full Keyboard Access. After activation, Control-F2 allows the user to interact with the pull-down menus, while Control-F3 lets the user interact with the Dock. The Escape key backs the user out of these two interactions one step at a time. Give it a shot. It becomes second nature quickly.

I don't like the default Apple mouse, optical or traditional, any more than you, but the alternatives are widely available & easy to obtain. M$ recently released OSX drivers for their Intellimouse line, and according to www.insidemacgames.com Logitech just released their OSX mouse drivers, which presumably includes their multi-button mice.
The Apple mouse complaint is possibly one of the most tired & old of the Apple computer complaints. There are many other nits one can pick re: Macintoshes.
Yet another troll who knows how to point & laugh at one-button Mac mice and who is misguided enough to call a trip from the Mac OS to the Windows family of products an upgrade. You reveal sparkling maturity by picking on a geek for enjoying something you can't, and I'm the troll who is willing to state the obvious, that your comments are dull. Duh, of course DII is a treasure hunt/version of Gauntlet gone off the deep end. There's no accounting for taste, dude. Go troll some other post pile.
Hmm. ..I've not yet had a crash/lock-up with my ps2. ..got it a few days after the launch. My old ps1 locked up once while playing Silent Hill 1 & never locked again. Maybe it's just a matter of time for the ps2. So far it's been a model system.

The Lich King will add your cultural and technological distinctiveness to its own. Thank you...come again! :)
If "gtalk" = "Google Talk" in this context, then gtalk/Jabber already works with the Mac OS X "Tiger" version of iChat.

An expansion...so many possibilities:
a) Illidan & the Blood Elves return to Azeroth, cause trouble
b) Third Invasion of the Burning Legion, trouble galore
c) Lich King sends in major invasion force from Northrend, to aid Kel-Thuzzad(sp?) &/or kick much ass in the southern lands
d) access to Quel'Thalas & Silvermoon, Ahn'Quiraj(sp?), Outland etc.
Yeah, I always wondered about that one, at the end of _Dark Knight Returns_...how many stocks did he liquidate for that piece? I will have to read it again...
The Spare/Replacement Parts: $?
The Repairs: $?
Correction: Channel 99 is CBUT, not CBC...

Most people could probably live without seeing it. It was a dull rental, IMHO...
