if the author is good, i honestly think they have little to fear from used books.
Unions and guilds don't worry too much about people that are good. People that are good don't usually need that much help. Unions and guilds are about securing employment for not so good workers. Of course this is a bit of an oversimplification but not by much.
Do you have any regrets about sending the spam?
I don't think so. Given the same set of circumstance--the same time, the stage of the Internet--I'd probably do the same thing. Somebody would have done it, if we hadn't done it.
Great moral justification - no surprise that this came from a lawyer. "But judge somebody was gonna steal that money if my client hadn't."
Yes, but there are other ways to make money other than charging a subscription fee. Although that may be a way to make more money. A business looks to maximize profits. I'm not saying what he is doing is wrong, but it is a choice he has made.
He's running this as a hobby not as a business, which is fine but that's a choice. If he wants to add to the greater good of the Internet and gain respect that's fine, but don't tell me you can't make money off of 10 million page views a month, even with bandwidth costs. Everyone talks about all the dot-com failures and how it's impossible to make money on the Net. Bullshit. There are plenty of small sites around that make good money and they aren't charging subscription rates. He's entitled to his view of the Internet and how he runs a site, but it's not the only way.
1. Movies won't make a big box office in America if they have subtitles.
They don't. Look at a list of the top grossing movies.
2. Movies made outside of Hollywood are of inferior quality and marketability.
This is possibly the only point that could be a false belief, but I wonder who really believes this?
3. Americans are too stupid to understand films which portray a cross-cultural perspective. In specific cases this wouldn't be true, but generally this is dead on.
4. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is an American institution.
It's not? It was started in Hollywood, and still is in Hollywood. Despite all my protestations Hollywood is still part of the USA
I live in the area too. There are several sites which I cannot reach since the switch over. My email address changed from briggsb@mediaone.net to bbriggs11012302MI@comcast.com (that's not right cause I can't remember it since it's so fricking long). The price was just raised 13%. While not exactly chaos it has certainly been disruptive and annoying. Enough so that I'll be looking for alternatives shortly.

It's not a PDA or a giant robot that's going to be revealed at the expo. Finally Apple will be taking the wraps off the next generation dMac. There's pictures on this site an everything.
I doubt the white paper was intended to run on ZDNet, but I'm sure it got in front of an awful lot of developers in the hands of Microsoft salespeople. Most of whom probably don't go to ZDNet for their technical news.
The bad thing about this is that people will only see the Microsoft lies and not the rebuttals by Lineo and Redhat. The people here on Slashdot already know this about MS, but the rest of the public doesn't. That's what billions of dollars of marketing dollars will buy you.
What about overclocking the AC in your house so it doesn't run at a measly 60 Hz like this guy did.
Here's a trailer review of the trailer for Signs they talk about in the NYT article.
Everyone's favorite Senator has already proposed legislation to stop the menace of the marker.
Seriously, why are we so fascinated with failure. It's like some gossip rag that's so excited by some movie star getting busted for drugs.
Yeah, I'll add my worthless 2 cents and say that I don't mind flash ads either.

Well, same thing happened over at BBspot. The site that published the Microsoft Purchase Evil from Satan article has joined the MSN network.
Both of the first 2 Godfather movies won the Best Picture oscar as well as several others.
And I have proof!
I hope this doesn't cause as many problems as the last feature they added.
I already saw something like this months ago here

A quick google search turned up this image....
Good luck Rob. Congratulations.

Exactly which one of these is a false belief?
Here are 11 reasons why AOLTW might be considering buying Red Hat.

This isn't the first time that Microsoft has lied about XP.

Here are some other dangerous toys that didn't make that list.
Given their cozy relationship they'll probably want to use Microsoft's latest server which is the only one proven unhackable.
Here are some other xbox bundles that Slashdotters may want to take a look at.
