I don't know. If one copyrighted song gets out into the open the whole of western civilization might collapse. Maybe they're thinking about society with a ban.
I didn't. The original poster said that/.ers think that we should ban law enforcement because it could be abused. That statement is ridiculous. I was just making the point that authority sometimes thinks the same way.
Sometimes I think there are people who seriously think we should completely ban law enforcement because there might be some miniscule possibility of abuse.
Just like authority thinks that all blank media should be taxed because there is possiblity of abuse .
Yes, I am an optimistic person by nature....
Your comment... Teach a man to fish, and thank you tomorrow. Feed a man a regimen of three different species of fish every eight hours, and he's a revenue source for life.
Rings true, and only re-enforces my thought that maybe the whole patent system should be re-thought.
How could it be in this day and age that lives are more important than money and intellectual property? I must have not woken up yet, and must still be in a dream world.
No, I don't think he should impose his quirky avoidance on all Slashdot users. I just find it odd that someone as public as him would worry about registration. Or that he couldn't just fill in fake information. Or that he would make a point of telling everyone that "he'll never know".
I don't think Linux is in a position to threaten Hollywood with anything. They'll just find something else to use (trust me they can). A victory for Linux is a victory for Linux. Get them using the software and dependent on the software, then threaten. Negotiating from a position of power is much more effective.
Talented people know when they are running out of good ideas and can do something else with their lives. The others never had anything in the first place so don't notice any difference.
Here's a different look at Microsoft's future.
Maybe this is your way back to happiness.
Here is another look at the settlement. I think this view is closer to the truth.
Here's a Top 11 list with explanations for XP.
No doubt, Microsoft is at it again.
More technical info about AOL can be found here.
I think the competing NoAudio standard well be more effective in controlling pirates than this scheme.
Taco would've know about this months ago. It was annouced here.
...are just for lucky guys like this Linux developer.
Maybe they can put some code in there to boost some of the Linux stocks now...

True, but if you gave them that option they probably would.

Now if we could only get high school students to understand Perl and MySQL we'd be all set.

I'm fully aware of the implications, but I have a feeling that it will always be profitable to make drugs that save people's lives.

Right, but you'll send thousands of your closest friends over to check it out. Way to stand by your principles.
On a less serious note, is Linux 4 TV anything like AOLTV?
I think it's little jump from providing services to kids and people to a police state. I guess there aren't black helicopters in my world though.
We're talking about the USA right? I don't think what you're suggesting is possible.
