Almost all modern interfaces copy this (OS/X and the new Linux ones) and as far as I can tell MicroSoft invented it. Before that everybody, including MicroSoft, thought of "iconization" where a window was replaced by a small representation, and the small representation disappeared when the window was opened.

I've been using POV on and off ever since..I find it thereputic to go back and knock up a scene every now and then
BTW: I traced on of my older scenes the other day that took 280Hrs on my 286 16Mhz box and it took 21 Sec (Most of that time was to parse the file).
Kids today are spoilt with their fancy interfaces.. I remember having to write scripts to generate a fields of spheres or watever...sigh...those wew the days....:-)
Furthermore, how would the checksum-checker verify that the checker itself is not untrusted code without loading it into RAM?
By checking its own checksum against another checksum checker, that has checked its checksum against an independent checksum checker that checks the overall checksums that the checksum checkers have checked....#SNAP# oh no.. i've gone cross eyed....
What a lot of people here don't get is that you dont need a kick ass processor to do this kind of control
Most HVAC CPU's in the real world operate with 2-5 Sec cycle times to allow for temp variations etc
Mind you....its not as hella cool as a kick ass CPU.......
So get out that old 386 and turn it into your home zone controller.........

Someone who writes the code to run a computer/temp sensors/fans with a system described above, and goes into the field and installs something like this can make some good money. Businesses may be skeptical at first, but when you mention saving electricity, watch their eyes open up.
Howd'ya think companies like Honeywell etc make money??? What you suggest ain't a new concept. They (and others) have been doing it for years...
