umm... the reason i got a 12" iBook G4 (here in Austria) was because it was the cheapest (good) 12" Notebook with decent Battery power i could find. there are tons of cheaper 14-15" x86 Notebooks available but not 12"...
the cheapes 12" x86 Notebook i could find was an IBM, but it hat half the ram, a slower Video Card and costs 200 more than the iBook. (at least here in Austria)
btw: the german (with a full english audio track) Babylon 5 Code 2 DVD is very cheap (30 ) so if your player supports PAL and Code 2 you may want to consider the Cheaper Code 2 DVD. (but Episode 8 has some errors (the 4:3 cgi is scaled to 16:9 so it doesnt look that good))
sure they shouldnt, but my ISP (Cable Modem with static IPs) didnt block Ports 137-139 some years ago and since noone secures their Windows boxes all were in a large Workgroup (noone changed the name from the default) and everyone could just see all drives from everyone else.
I'm really happy that they blocked these ports very soon.
of course i cant speak for all others, but i'd really consider switching to Linux when all (most) of my Windows Apps run under linux (i dont really care if they are native Linux apps or Win32 running with Wine/whatever).
i've just tried Mandrake Linux and have to say i begin to like it, but the since i cant just throw away all my Win32 apps i cant switch to Linux (or something else that doesnt run Win32 apps)
BTW: it would be great if i could not only run Win32 apps on linux, but all the nice Drivers too.
I had an IBM GXP75 with 40 GB running on a Via KT133A Board (MSI K7T Turbo) and i had a vew weeks ago a bad sector on it. The sound it made was like you described...
i had it for about a year or so, and i really hope that my new 60 GB IBM HD will do better
