This, a thousand times this. When I'm around the loud anti-gubmint gun owners, I have exactly the same visceral "please, please just shut the fuck up, you're making the majority of us look bad" feeling I get as when I'm listening to some idiot go on and on about how he likes big tits and only women with big tits, and anybody who doesn't like big tits is stupid and women who don't have big tits aren't worth knowing...

It really only takes a few very loud idiots to create a stereotype.

Grassley has a history of sending drooling stupid letters full of dipshit questions to NASA administrators. Here he's character-assinating the director of the Ames Research Center. Here he's making shit up about NASA and Google doing something nefarious. Here is an account of him badgering them about procurement practices.

Note that all of them contain demands for detailed histories, rationales and future plans, all to be delivered with two weeks.

Maybe this grandstanding fucktard should start writing similar letters to the Secretary of Defense. I hear they get a slightly larger portion of the budget pie than NASA does.

Case in point. Most human readers would have no problem recognizing that you meant "going it alone", where a machine translator would be stripping its gears. And that's just for WRITTEN TEXT. Now compound the problem with each individual speaker's timbre, inflection and personal idiosyncratic verbal tics. It's HARD to wreck a nice beach.

I think I'm as amused by the reactions of the thirty-and-under-somethings here as I am by the vaccinations-cause-autism crowd. I'm not yet 60, and for my generation, measles, mumps, rubella (German measles) and chicken pox were childhood rites of passage. A tiny minority had permanent side-effects; I remember a grade-scool classmate who was deaf in one ear, supposedly as a result of measles. I *DO* recall the media hoopla from the Guillain-Barre cases after the 1976 swine-flu immunization campaign. I guess I'm saying that if YOU had a MMR shot and DON'T have a smallpox vaccination scar on your left bicep, then you're: 1) under 35, and 2) lacking historical perspective.
