  14. Re:This assumes... on Toyota Sudden Acceleration Is Driver Error · · Score: 1

I have actually had this happen to me once. My dad washed his truck and when he put the floormat back in he managed to put it over the accelerator, but under the brake. It is easy to do because the brake sticks way out and is hinged at the top, and the accelerator is close to the floor and hinged at the bottom. The result was, I started driving it and when I pressed the brake, it pressed the mat down into the accelerator; flooring both. I needed to coast in neutral while adjusting the mat before I could come to a stop. Fortunately this happened on an empty and fairly straight country road and not a highway.

Their real complaint is that consumers are not willing to pay full price for something they cannot turn around and sell when they are done with it.

Also, it is cheaper for the publishers to distribute downloads then it is for physical media. Why shouldn't we get some of that discount passed on to us? This sounds like the RIAA model: Distribution is cheaper, so we get a bigger profit margin. Screw the customers for thinking they should get what they pay for!

Have you considered that if the NDA is legal, then free speech isn't a right in this case? Over here in the states, free speech is guaranteed to never be deprived by the government... but private industry has no such limitation.

I cant see how it is legal. A company screwes a guy out of a lot of money, then offers to give it back as long as he never says anything bad about the company.

So the company gets to gag someone for life for nothing? Sure that is fair.

Weird. I could see a manager telling kids to settle down and put the shit back.

I can say I have seen both. Now this might be my personal anecdote, but anecdotal evidence is the best evidence on slashdot.

I have worked at some fairly loose places that would have laughed such a thing off, as long as the "victims" if such an event were easygoing enough.

I have also worked at places where they were looking to cut staff, so would fire people for petty stuff in order to avoid any possibility of a lawsuit. I, as most slashdotters would consider myself "to skilled to be fired", but there was a time when even I figured there were three choices.
    1. Stop pissing people off and become a model employee.
    2. Keep going and eventually they find someone to replace me.
    3. Find a new job and leave them completely surprised.

Number 3 is always the most satisfying when you work at a place filled with bureaucratic asshats.

Now it might be a timing thing, but my experience with the petty firings was during the dot-bomb era. Every company was looking to cut staff, and its best to get rid of people when you have a valid reason to do so.

Even in the current economic hardhips now, I don't think it is as bad for IT as the cullings of a decade ago.
