Looks like they're going after the iTunes market and not the napster market. Or, to put it more simply, people who have money to buy things and belive in buying things and not people who just want something for nothing and everything to be free. Too many college cry babies living at home with mommy and daddy who think they're entittled to everything. Getting a little old...
We use avocent where I work. Its great. The remote software allows you to view the console and have all the functionality. So, when you have to reboot into the bios or diagnostics to view an error message, you can just load up a program instead of driving 30 miles. Definetly would recommend it, saves time.
Ok, so they take an oath to defend the constitution of the united states and this isn't in the reading? No Thomas Paine, Declaration of Independence, Constitution, Bill of Rights, Amendments?
Course many think that the pentagon doesn't want soldiers to think for themselves, examples like this give them credit.
I love Civ III but hated the way nukes worked in the game. They didn't prevent people from going to war against you. You'd use them, then others would declare war on you. On top of that, using nukes caused just pollution which then caused global warming! How about adding radiation which can't be cleaned up and goes away within time. I can't wait for Civ IV, hopefully I can catch up on all my reading before that happends.
I've been using this for the past year and its worked great. I use it with apache, php and mysql. A department has begun using it for their reports and is very happy.
I saw it earlier this afternoon and it gave me a headache and I feel like thorwing up still. Haven't had anything to eat since then. Aside that, pretty good movie.
I installed the update and have had no problems. I have an iBook 700mhz, and It even took care of that annoying poping noise coming from the speaking when operating on battery power.
I live near Albany NY and power was out around 4pm. Came back on around 9 or so. Amazingly no accidents on the major road near me. On the bright side (no pun intended) today I met more people in my appartment building than before, as everyone was outside.
An aerobic style such as Tae Kwon Do will give you many benefits if you attend classes 3 times a week. My advice is to find a good school in your area (not some black belt factory with an instructor just in it for the money) and train regularly. Tell him your primary reason is for exercise. After awhile you'll notice many more benefits other than just fitness. Also, changing your diet with a workout will help. Someone mentioned drink water, that's good too. Try to drink less beer too. I know its tough, but try.:)
This is where every kid (at least in the States anyway) should start. Have them read the declaration of independence and constitution for starters. If more children would be encouraged in schools to read their rights, we wouldn't be in the mess we're in today.
Well today is my second day at my new job and I'll tell you my experiences. All throughout school I worked at a local networking company gaining experience and certification. I attended a community college then transfered to a state university. My grades are ok, nothing to write home about. I graduated this spring and my previous employeer didn't have a full time spot for me, tough luck. I spent the months of June through late October in searching for work. I used the local paper, monster, net temps (found some part time work for beer mone) there), various websites from NY State dept. of labor, friends, former co-workers, and local career fairs. I don't know what the poster is talking about government jobs. THe only ones I found at the FBI wanted experience or big certifications like the CCIE from cisco. Not only that but you have to pass physical requirements as well. I applied there as well and the local office had gone through my app, but I wasn't going to hold my breath for 6 month process. New York state itself is so big and slow that application process takes a long time too. My current job I landed after I visited their booth at a government technology fair in albany. I gave them my resume and talked for a little bit. I got a call a month later about a different position and they wanted an interview. What's funny is that I went for 3 months without an interview and then I got 3 interviews in one week!
So, I had 4 years of part time experience (technical and the more important non technical skills) with a college degree and it still took 5 months to land a job. This one is pretty sweet. I work with a few other laid back people and a laid back boss. Plus I have a nice 17" flat screen with a P4:)
I hope that helps. I felt compelled to write something since I had gone through the exact same thing the poster will go through. It wasn't that bad having the whole summer to mysefl though. Good luck!
Ben
(oh, don't beat yourself up over a "dream job." They don't exist! A dream job is getting paid for vacation. There might be the most ideal job, but you can't be that selective right out of college.)
Yes, do it. Go to college, far away, live on campus away from mom and dad, but don't over do things. I just finished my last exam today and it feels great. Graduation is this weekend. The only thing I'd chagne is get really good grades in high school, get a scholarship or aid of some sort and live on campus. You'll have more fun that way. There are traid offs, the food isn't as good as what mom or dad will cook, and there's no one here but my cat to bother me. What has given me the edge is working part time in my industry for 4 years while getting my degree. That experience combined with certifications and my degree (one certification you don't need to get recertified for!), I'm hoping, will give me an edge. Plus I learned a lot of things that don't apply directly to things but they make you smarter and able to communicate with others better, or so it seems to me.
For the last year (probably even longer) I have noticed RR putting Road Runner in the Organization field on the header. I've never seen them put the actual city name however in the header. This is not late breaking news.
I can't beleive this made the front page on slashdot. First of all the story is false (at least in the upstate New York RR service) second, what's the big deal? For me, I use my full name when posting to newsgroups. Plus with RR you get a fairly static IP address (mine hasn't changed in the last year), how can you be anonymous with that?
Scientology is not a religion, its just a fascist organization seeking to brainwash and control others. A friend in Germany explained to me how they banned this fascist cult in most placed in Europe such as the UK and Germany, we should do the same here I'm sorry to say. Its bad when government has to step and ban certain things but groups like this and NMBLA should not be protected under the first amendment. What's more amazing is how organizations can actually get away with suing people for criticizing them. So the first amendment, I'd say the most sacred right in the USA, should protect YOUR OWN EXISTENCE but not the rights of others, correct? If that isn't fascism, I don't know what is.
Ahh, well that explains it. Thanks to all, I wondered what happened to this. Yes, duke was switched to the unreal engine, still don't know why dukes taking so long. Are they making their own OS with it?
I remember awhile back hearing about a game called Prey. One feature advertised about it (if I remember correctly...) was the "portal" technology, where you could be looking at a teleporter that would move you somewhere else on the map and actually see that location in real time, while if your character physically looked behind the actual transporter drevice, you'd still see the room. Has this game died yet or have died already. I'm sometimes curious about games that take forever to be developed and are talked about alot but haven't or never make it to the shelf (*cough* Duke Nukem Forever *cough*).
Anyone remember Prey?
I tried replying to this last night, but for some reason, none of my slashdot buttons or links worked correctly. Couldn't sign in, get preferences or preview my message. Well I'll try again.
Hydrogen is a proven technology, BMW currently has a car touring in europe powered by hydrogen. While its not a silver bullet, it does solve many problems the US faces with enviromental concerns and forieng policy. I believe we have the capability to switch every car and truck in this country to hydrogen power in 20 years, easily. True you have to make the hydrogen in the first place, but you also have to transport oil thousands of miles in tankers. Accidents are just as likely to happen.
As for savages, yes there are many. Hitler however didn't kill in the name of religion (to praise Allah as these physco's do) he killed people because of their religion, and conjoured whatever reasons he could to hate people and have them exterminated to ensure his power. The soviets and the likes of Mao weren't didn't kill in the name of religion, in my opionion, they had millions killed because religion was the biggest threat to their power, as it was a source of opposition(or free will?).
I'm sure we could talk about this for a long time, howerver I believe that dumping our reliance on oil and swtiching to a clean system such as hydrogen would not only have a trendous impact enviromentally, but make our forieng policy easier to deal with (not dealing with a certain region at all).
2 technologies could take care of so many problems, yet we are not investing in them. If we invested more research into nuclear fusion for our nation's power grid and started funding to move every car, truck, and boat/naval vessel to hydrogen power, not only would the enviromental impact be more than significant, but we could pull out of the middle east %100 and not get involved with these savages that kill in the name of religion.
FUCK YOU! You'd probably say not to react after Pearl Harbor. Well this is our Pearl Harbor and I say nuke these fuckers so bad that not even roaches can survive! Time to put an end to this liberal pussy shit in this country.

I don't see anything either. And I got my hopes up for nothing. Just like StarCraft 2 :(
D'oh! The color scheme threw me off and I didn't see that entry. Lame excuse I know, but I DID read the article. And its not bad being proven wrong.

I like the thought of special opps having to install a server or router with a satallite hookup so some geek in the CIA can hack into the network. :)
