Listening to music on my crappy yamaha speakers (don't laugh plz) can get painful... but putting on the Sennheisers (HD457's) at work is a totally different experience, and while I can tell the music can be louder with the Senns without distortion, it's easier to push beyond the limits with the cans.

  19. Re:No suprise on Miyamoto on PS3, Industry · · Score: 1

The "power" button on the front of the PS2 is 2 things:

    1. If the unit is in "standby", pressing the button brings out of standby and boots.
    2. If the unit is "in use" and the button is tapped, it acts as a full-reset button for the system. This causes the system to reboot, and hence drags the tray in so that it can boot whatever is in the tray.
    3. If the unit is "in use" and the button is pressed >2 secs(?), it places the unit in standby, after ensuring the drive tray is "put away". This way it doesn't stick out for others to mess with.... In addition, the LED on the front of said button changes to RED to indicate standby.

You can also wake the unit by hitting the drive-eject button. Will cause the machine to boot, but not suck the drive tray in (because you pressed the eject button, the drive tray happily zooms out for you..) Then you must either hit the reset button to reboot again and suck in the drive tray, or hit the eject button one more time to suck in the drive tray.

It's not that difficult, and makes perfect sense. PS2 didn't want you to physically turn the unit off; possible damage to drive tray if it's left open and someone comes by and gives it a good whack.

Friend of mine only has a school loan. Probably to the tune of 50$ a month, and rented an apartment. He decided to buy a house, and was able to get a loan, although probably at a higher rate than most others...

    Why?

Well, on that 50$/mo school loan payment, he'd "forget" and pay it when they called him... nevermind at that point he'd pay 4-5 months at a time, but with all of the late dings on his report, it did hurt him.

My point is this. Get some credit, but DONT ABUSE IT. I don't have to tell you that though, because you don't even use credit at this point. But, if at some point you do want credit (in the form of a loan for a house mebby) then you will want a good verifiable payment history.

I have to agree with you about the electric bill. There is no reason for a credit check there - just kill it if the person gets behind. Pretty easy for me to see a solution to.

  25. Re:My question is why? on RFID & Viral Vulnerability · · Score: 5, Interesting

My company is currently trying to work towards a whole-house RFID setup (we sell consumer products.)

Problems we've had (in talking with the engineers):

    1. Our product is in metal containers (within cardboard). Bad for RFID.
    2. Placement is CRITICAL. Especially in a plant environment, you need to know where the RFID tag is so you can read and write it quickly; in addition to minimizing #3
    3. Outside RF. We've had instances to where in a test lab, we can read and write and verify the write within 80ms, as a box is cruising by on the conveyor. Once we transition to the plant, however, it gets a little more shaky, as you have less control over where the conveyor motor is, more flourescent lights, and oh yea, there's still those damn metal cans.

RFID has a long way to go from what I've been told by our engineers. It's not as dead simple as you might think -- of course, for handheld scanners though, which require human intervention - may be 10 times easier since humans can modify the environment to see fit on the fly.
