I don't understand why more places don't put this to better use.... I know that most people get kind of turned off by having to use voicemail, or "press 2 to stay on the line" kind of thing, but why is this so bad?

I work in an area where my customers have to come first. If I have a co-worker in my cubicle, and we're not talking about a business threatening emergency, then I answer the phone... chances are, I've been trying to get a hold of the customer for a few hours, and if they call, that means they've now got time. I'm a slave to them more than they are me.

But, in your situation, I'd say dump the calls to voicemail. Or, if it's really that bad, it may mean that the store/doctor's office may need part-time help during busy hours to answer the phone. Having the "general receptionist" answer the phone isn't good at my company, and I would think a doctor's office would want to have someone seperate, if there's enough volume.

Or, go to voicemail.... :) Believe me, when people want your money, they'll call back.

What's funny is, every night about 10pm, me and 2 others join into UT2k4 matches. Lately it's mostly been assault, but we've been known to kick butt through invasion and others.

The point is though, we've only ever left certain servers for two reasons:

    1. Once (note that: ONCE) there was a guy chatting on the server, repeating himself over and over and over (the text to speech stuff.) We got annoyed and left after the round was up.

    2. Bad maps. Some user-made maps are just nuts.... one we played last night for example was so not fun - you couldn't get away from your spawn point (a no-no in an assault map, since the defaults usually have a gun to defend you the first few seconds of life...) We left since we knew once we were defending, we'd probably be doing the same thing. for 20 minutes.

So, on the internet gaming side of things, it appears people are a little nicer. We'll make jokes with other guys and have fun with some of their names (especially clan names :) but never take it to the point of annoyance.

Try running out of battery power on a palm VX (I know, older model - but you said "palm"). You lose all applications in memory.

Why? 'cause it's not "flash memory". It's actually something closer to SDRAM, which requires refresh charges every so often. Hence, if you run out of battery, you lose the memory. As well, it's not "ROM" if you can write to it.
