Why spend so much on a Segway when a bicycle is cheaper and just as effective? In fact, Americans should be riding bikes as the general populace is over-weight anyhow.
And the added-bonus is that the bicycle doesn't polute either/
I live 10 KM south of the city where these 15 (so far, there are 54 missing) women were found and I am also 10 KM from the Canada/United States border. I pick up, on the air, KVOS, KIRO, KCPQ, KING, and KOMO, and they should abide by Canadian law and not broadcast any information. Luckly, they abide by the law in the television form, but they have gone to the point of putting it on their websites with a warning stating that this information not be read by those in British Columbia (they don't mention Canada even though the publication ban affects the country as a whole).
If any of you out there think this is wrong, you guys are thick-headed. This publication ban is intended to protect what is left of the integrity of this trial. It is bad enough that the public is generally skewed towards the accused even though, through a slim-chance nonetheless, that he might be innocent.
Lee Tien, senior staff attorney with the Electronic Frontier Foundation, said the right to a fair trial versus the journalists' right to gather and publish information has always been a sticky situation. Debate on the issue dates back before the Internet.
The trial should always take precedence over the journalists as the journalists are much more powerful in skewing the public than the lawyers, etc. To say a journalist should have the right to put whatever he/she wants out is completely wrong.
That is correct! Jamie has stated that he has a way to stop crapflooding, but the hidden agenda at hand here is that he will surpress the freedoms of us trolls to post what we want here.
It doesn't matter what the content is, stopping people from posting what they want goes against freedom of speech and that is the hypocracy of Slashdot.
I encourage all of you to troll to your hearts content, as the freedoms Slashdot "bitches" about frequently are being oppressed.
That is right! Certain users are now not able to post on Slashdot anymore. Like many Slashdot readers, I have more than one account to allow myself to post in different attitudes. Right now, I am using my primary account to post this and risking my somewhat-good karma to get the news out.
I decided two weeks ago to logout and login under my secondary account to post something slightly off topic. After going back to the story and previewing my reply, I noticed that I had this infamous message:
"Due to excessive bad posting from this IP or Subnet, comment posting has temporarily been disabled. If it's you, consider this a chance to sit in the timeout corner. If it's someone else, this is a chance to hunt them down. If you think this is unfair, please email moderation@slashdot.org with your MD5'd IPID and SubnetID, which are [MD5 string] and [MD5 string] and (optionally, but preferably) your IP number [numerical address] and your username [insert name here]."
Stunned, I logged-out and didn't bother to post what I wanted to.
A few days later, I logged in under that secondary account once again and discovered the same message. A bit annoyed, I didn't bother again.
However, today, I decided to check up on this and see if this was just something buggered up - it wasn't.
This obviously means that Slashdot is banning accounts that the editors do not like. Sure, it may just be my account, however, it does mean that if they do not want someone, they can ban them. What if Bill Gates, considered the most evil man on the planet by most readers of this site, had an actual account here and was revealed to everybody? What would stop Mr. Malda from banning him from posting in Linux threads or Microsoft threads praising Microsoft's products?
According to Mr. Malda, this is what is stated on account banning:
"Occassionally we ban IPs who are abusing our servers in some way. If this happens, please read How do I get an IP Unbanned. These bans exist to prevent Denial of Service attacks that either overburden our servers, or flood the forums.
The moderation system has a variety of limits in it as well, but these bans are temporary and exist more as a rate limiter to make sure that people stay on topic, and everyone gets a chance to speak. You can learn more about the moderation system by reading Comments and Moderation"
Not once did I DoS Slashdot or flood an article with this said account. As well, this account is not banned via an IP as I can successfully post under this account without anything in my way.
I ask this not to be moderated down. Please save your moderation points for people who do deserve them. However, I do hope that the editors come out and tell us something because this is very frustrating.
The past few weeks, I have been looking into how Slashdot has changed over the past few years and I have come to a very disturbing conclusion.
Remember how CmdrTaco implemented the friend and foe system? Well, as you probably know, he has created an account called No More Trolls and as indicated by this journal entry, CmdrTaco is out to censor Slashdot through proxy-like means.
Of course, if we want to go way back to the winter, I can refer to this comment where the Slashdot admins decided to "bitchslap" this post to the very ends of the Earth. Or I could refer to this petition asking Slashdot to stop what it is doing with moderator points and the two posts a day limit with -10 karma accounts. Of course, Jamie says otherwise.
Oh wait, censoring is bad according to Slashdot! Just look at all the articles that they post on major corporations trying to stop the flow of free speech. Oh wait, trolls are bad and aren't contributing to anything, lets make sure that they cannot be seen but still allow posting! Lets control how much they post in a day!
CmdrTaco, you state that you have an open and free enviroment here. Cut the crap and admit that you do not like the way the system is. If you at least admit it there is some decency in all of this but otherwise, I think you're being a twat over this and deserve nothing but shit from everybody. As stated in the first journal entry I posted, what will you do if this gets sold to a major corporation such as AOL/TW? Do you seriously think they'll allow free speech to continue on this website?
"News for nerds. Stuff that matters" is a farce as it should be "Linux rules. Microsoft drools."

It is because of the United States' government fearing that these machines will be used for rogue military states. If I am right, it is just some leftovers from the Cold War that they just haven't bothered with.
It gets really funny when you find one of these things lying around someone's computer and you discover what IRC channel they're in.
Over the summer my sister decided to run some P2P software on my main workstation while I wasn't home. I get home the next day and noticed my LAN lights on my hub going nuts from my main workstation. So I yanked the cord from the hub and decided to see what processes were running.
Low and behold I discovered what was causing it. My sister downloaded a keygen off the network that turned out not to be a keygen but a trojan instead that was connecting to an IRC server and was DoS'n someone.
Using an IRC daemon, some IRC monitoring software, and a small edit of my hosts file, I discovered where this thing was connecting, what channel it was joining, and the password required for the channel. I fired up another IRC connection from my machine and decided to talk to the kiddies.
The kids were acting like they didn't know anything and subsequently kicked me out. Didn't do anything beyond there but they had a massive collection of bots going.
I think it is an area by area basis because I live near the Surrey-Newton co-loc and I can tell you DSL service is pretty good. However, if you go out to the Whalley co-loc, I have heard DSL is pretty shitty there.
Read my journal and shut the fuck up.
Was the name of the guy Issac Alexander?
If you drop a watermellon off the Empire State Building, does it get eaten by a bunch of niggers before it hits the ground?
The Segway uses batteries, dumbass. When they get thrown out, they become an enviromental concern.
Why spend so much on a Segway when a bicycle is cheaper and just as effective? In fact, Americans should be riding bikes as the general populace is over-weight anyhow.

Where is your dumbass comment, michael?
Where is your regular dumbass comment?
Read my journal. Slashdot does not care about your opinion.

Slashdot silenced me! Read my journal for more information.

u suk sir pls do not try again k thx bye
nobody is allowed to post anymore after this post
BTW, append ":9000" to the hostname if the URL doesn't work.

Here are some examples:

Under my normal account, posting is perfectly fine and I can see my post in preview mode and successfully post it.
However...
http://animefreak.arkaic.com/slashdot/troll_ex03.
Trying to post under my secondary account (which will remain anonymous) gets me this:

Feel free to reply, moderate, whatever.

I guess the two fans who run websites on the internet dedicated to MLB have to close up shop.
It's not like anyone visited those sites anyways.
It's a shame that there is a smell of privatisation in some parts of BC Hydro coming sometime in the near future.

Lets hope he installed without AVS. The last thing we need is someone getting high off AVS while driving.
The 8088 was a different processor from the 8086 and 80186.

They have all sorts of stuff and a lot of fansubs that they will reproduce for a fee of a VHS tape. They also sell some games and such.
Another place is Sakura Media in Burnaby and Richmond. They carry a lot of CDs, DVDs, and posters.
