Also, how is spamming voice mail via VoIP any different than just calling everybody up POTS?!? This article sounds more like another company trying to promote their "solution in search of a problem."
Leveraging our paradigm-shifting product line with state of the art technology developed by a dedicated team of professionals, we offer a significant competitive advantage on the diversified but fragmented market of best of breed anti-spit solutions.
Not to mention that T-Mobile offers international coverage without having to change phones as long as you maintain a tri-band phone. Plus when you get a new phone, no need to call CS, you just pop the sim chip out and into the new phone. Who else offers $19.95 for unlimited internet?
Although to be able to do this, it would require a specific firmware for the access point so the phone can "register" itself so you can receive incoming calls. Something similar to vonage, just wireless.
I wonder if they will allow you to make VOIP calls over the WiFi link using this handset. That would be really neat, but unfortunately VOIP is a threat the the profits of companies like T-mobile. So they will probably do something to prevent this. Unless of course they charge for the WiFi connection by usage, which of course removes the principal benefit of VOIP for the user.
I don't know if the benefits will be taken away. Think if you live in a crappy apartment complex or someplace that has a really weak signal. Having sms and phone calls tramsitted to your phone via your 802.11 access point (VOIP) would be a real treat. Even if they set it up to eat away at your minute bucket.
Afterall, there isn't much real cost for a bank to bounce a check, but they're allowed to charge so much because a bounced check is a preventable situation that is very annoying... the fee is there mostly to discurage people from trying to write a bad check.
The problem with this is that if I cash a check and the other person didn't have the funds, I have to pay for the bounced check as well as you. I have been charged $5 for attempting to cash a check that bounced. I wouldn't say preventable
Another question: Can somebody explain me why the "logo" for this article on Slashdot is "fork, knife and spoon" (in German we call it "Besteck" but I know that the english language has no equivalent for it)? Just curious about that...:-)
We do, it's called Cutlery, tableware, or silverware.
...and charges her $120 to diagnose and repair the same problem: a loose gas cap.
$120 for a computer diagnostics seems a little steep. Jiffy lube will run one for you for $15 bucks. Where is she taking it that is costing her $120.00 to run a computer diagnostics?
Do you think they would be so stupid as to integrate the system into vital components of the plane? There is no reason for the rest of the plane to connect to a wifi network.
It's funny how they tell you that you are not allowed to use anything that transmits a radio frequency but they will make an exception when they can profit off of it.
What if your network goes down for any reason. This could really harm productivity. I know when situations like this occur in my workplace we are still able to do what we must on our local machines.
The RIAA has since withdrawn the lawsuit, after Ms. Ward's lawyer demanded that they do so. Part of the reason cited by Ms. Ward's attorneys included the fact that she was accused of downloading music through Kazaa, which doesn't even run on her Mac.
...Ward uses a Macintosh computer at home. Kazaa runs only on Windows-based personal computers.
Correction: Lik-Sang used to sell the flash carts. That is where I got mine. They were sued by Nintendo which shut down the entire website until the Flash units were removed. You can find them elsewhere however.
Actually, you are bound to US law as a US citizen even when you visit another country. You are required to follow the laws of the country you are in and US law. The information can be found on the state.gov website. There are problems however when 2 laws conflict.
I would have to say it is time everyone started using a secure shell to do all their internet browsing and activies. I'm not condoning illegal practices, but I rather have people respect my right to privacy and not have everything filtered and dissected.

Although without the support of VIA how would one keep developing this since it uses their security hardware. As chip design changes, you would need to know how to make calls to the chip or the program becomes useless... Does VIA offer documentation on their chipsets?

Death by Coffee?
·
· Score: 1
The LD_50 of caffeine (that is the lethal dosage reported to kill 50% of the population) is estimated at 10 grams for oral administration. As it is usually the case, lethal dosage varies from individual to individual according to weight. Ingestion of 150mg/kg of caffeine seems to be the LD_50 for all people. That is, people weighting 50 kilos have an LD_50 of approx. 7.5 grams, people weighting 80 kilos have an LD_50 of about 12 grams.
In Mountain Dew the LD_50 is about 200 12 ounce cans or about 50 vivarins or strong cups of coffee (200mg each).
Acute caffeine poisoning gives early symptoms of anorexia, tremor, and restlessness. Followed by nausea, vomiting, tachycardia, and confusion. Serious intoxication may cause delirium, seizures, supraventricular and ventricular tachyarrhythmias, hypokalemia, and hyperglycemia.
Chronic high-dose caffeine intake can lead to nervousness, irritability, anxiety, tremulousness, muscle twitching, insomnia, palpitations and hyperreflexia. For blood testing, cross-reaction with theophylline assays will detect toxic amounts. (Method IA) Blood concentration of 1-10 mg/L is normal in coffee drinkers, while 80 mg/L has been associated with death.
Now they just need to figure out how to make everyones lips move as they are speaking English!

Well if used in conjunction with buzzwords, it does put it into that category in my opinion. Used alone, I suppose it would be just jargon.
