Depending on the system of conversion to Romanji, Washu is fine. In fact, it is the accepted version of the spelling of her name. The one that they botched horribly was "Aeka" which they spelled "Ayeka" for no good reason. Look up the FAQ for the various spellings.
(BTW, I maintain the FAQ, and I don't think I have ever seen anyone spell it with two uu's. If you are going to spell it differently, it is usuall wasyu with a yu (which sounds closer to how she pronunces her name).
Good post. A lot of comments from the books that Kajishima and Kuroda wrote about Tenchi.
MASSIVE SPOILERS FOR TENCHI OVA AND TENCHI NOVELS.
1) Jurai is not the largest empire. The GP Police are. It is probibly a safe bet that it is the most powerfull, given that fourth generation ships are still the equiv of a GP squadron. (To say nothing of the 1-3 generations). This is why the Jurains were very worried about Ryo-oh-ki who took out a large number of 3rd and 4th generation ships, shot one down (Ryu-oh, Aeka's ship) and engaged in a very long battle with the most powerfull first generation ship (Funaho - Yousho/Tenchi's ship).
As for Mihoshi, I am definitly in the Mihoshi is Tokimi's shadow camp. Even if you are the luckiest person in the universe, you just don't wander thru sub-dimensional space into Washu's lab.
The TTM books hint that there is a lot going on w/ Tsunami. She is one of the Megami (Washu and Tokimi being the other two), but she also tells Ryouko that she is keeping a promise to a friend when she assimilates w/ Sasami. My guess is that the friend might be Masaki, the sister of the founder of jurain, but that is a whole new world of speculation.
Aeka, amusingly enough, crown princess of Jurai appears to be the weekest character out there.
Ryouko can match Tsunami's power... That is a rather scary thought.
According to TTM, Yousho left Jurai because they would never support a marriage to Airi, a student he met at the Galaxy acadamy (yes, the same acadamy that Washu tought at). The marriage w/ Aeka was arranged, but Yousho was never interested in it. (BTW, he has a daughter by Airi named Mizuho. At this point in the OVA's he does not know anything about it).
As for Tsunami, she probibly controlled Ryouko to lead him to Jurai. Ryouko her voices in her gems when she attacked Jurai. Ironicly enough, Tsunami also set up Azusa (Yousho's father) and Funaho (Yousho's mother, not to be confused with his ship which he named after her). Funaho was a Human. Azusa had a duel with Kagato and lost. Before Kagato could finish the job, Tsunami interviened and dropped Yousho off on earth.
In case you did not get it yet, Tsunami, Washu and Tokimi are sisters.
Alot of people are in the Tsunami bit-twidiling Tenchi theory. Ie, Tsunami was trying to create Tenchi. This would explain why neither Tsunami or Yousho were particullarly suprised when he generated LHW's. Washu also plays in here somewhere since she has 20k years to muck around.
I am also very exicted about another OVA series, but it has not yet been confirmed who would write it.
I have watched w/ some interest the cuts that CN has made. The feeling among the veterans is that it could be worse. I do shudder a bit what will happen with Tenchi OVA 13 which is quite amusing w/ regards to the fact that the Emperor has two wives (they removed the hint from OVA 5), but for the most part only Ryouko has taken a hit.
Of course, the funny thing is that she seems much more caring and almost parental now, instead of over-sexed. I imagine that she will have a lot more fans now.
I forgot to mention. I am looking for a site that will let me host a automated version of this. I may get a new page this afternoon, but I need hosting recomendations. Any takers? I will probibly install fAQ-o-matic for this.....
Wow. Two posts in two days... all for my favorite little series. First off all, below this is the FAQ as it currently stands. Second, here is the status of the long sought third OVA.
First of all, Tenchi is actually 13 different stories that have the same characters. The story types change from series to series. The OVA series (what is airing right now) is a bit of epic fantasy, sci-fi with sorta family dynamics, the next series that airs (Tenchi Universe or TV) is much more romantic, while Shin Tenchi (Tenchi in Tokyo) is just plain weird and bad.
I talked to Hiroki Hayashi (One of the co-creators of Tenchi Muyo) last week, and he said that AIC is committed to a new series, but director etc has not been picked yet. Masaki Kajishima (the other co-creator) will probibly be it. The only thing we know for sure, is that Hiroshi Negishi (the man who directed the TV series) will not be directing it.
Hiroki Hayashi will be at Nan-Desu-Kon this year. This is a _awesome_ con that takes place in colorado every year. Last year it was one of the best Conventions in the USA with a much better atmosphere then AX (Look at how big we are) and Otakon. He really is a nice guy, and it will be a lot of fun. More info here.
Anyways, here is Tenchi FAQ (REALLY REALLY BIG). As one huge document. Sorry, it is in word, have not had time to do a proper conversion on it. Here it is . Spoilers be here . (People who read the FAQ last week, the novels section has been updated.
The creators of Tenchi Muyo have gone on to create other great series, such as Sol Bianca, Photon, Dual, El-Hazard, BGC 2040 and many other series.
Please don't bitch about the fact that it is in microsoft word. My linux box needs a new drive.
I am the writer of the Tenchi Muyo FAQ's. They are finished, just not posted yet. If someone will look here later, I will post them. The spoiler pages (which was also maintained by me) is gone for right now, until I post more.

As much as it is against my policy to respond to flames, your comments reflect badly on anime.
Animation is nice. GiTS is the basis for the matrix (which has been publicly awknowledged by the creators) and Armitage III is.... cute... in a rather distrubing way. (You know... there are anime characters that are older then that.... Armitage just bugs me... )But the entire thing that seperates Anime from Disney is plot plot plot plot and more plot. Disney, sad to say, still does better body dynamics and better fluid animation then anything I have ever seen in Anime (btw, which is over 500 titles or thereabout).
The later two titles that you mention really have no creativity or plot in them. Armitage III is a bad rip of Gibson, GiTS is a complete bastardization of the manga. (Matsumoto Shirow's Manga is excellent tho, and GiTS 2 is in the works).
(In other words, stick to the above is you just want action action action).
If you want plot, stick with EVA, Excel, Sol Bianca (the new OVA series is _awesome_ graphics wise, but the characters don't click yet), Slayers, Kenshin etc.
Macross Plus is also in that area, but much more for Yokko Kano's _awesome_ sound track then any other reason.
Finaly, a friend has pointed out to me that I completly neglected any mention of Shoujo anime. (They run in a magizine targeted at women, rather then men). Series I strongly suggest here (which are much harder to get your hands on)
X - Shoujo is _owned_ by a female group named CLAMP. That is all there is too it. X was a incredible manga, that was very poorly translated into a anime (something like 10 volumes of manga into 1 2hr movie). However, the animation is gorgeous, and the plot is interesting. Not for kids.
KareKano (sorry can't remember full title). Anno's (the guy who did Eva) latest project, this one delves into masks that people wear, experencies, first loves, etc. It really is quite good, and very different from the standard Anime direction.
Kodomo no Omocha (Child's Toy). Child's toy is about as insane as Anime ever gets. This series is like riding a roller coaster of humour, and then randomly crashing into brick walls of angst.
Fushigi Yuugi: This is really a shonen (guys) series in disguise, but has some awesome angsty moements.
Here are some more recomendations:
Sol Bianca -> Computer Generated Anime. It is quite pretty, but the characterization and the story are not solid yet (first two episodes). The original series is excellent as well.
BGC 2040 -> BGC is Anime's first Cyber Punk series. The new series is good, but nowhere near as cutting edge as the first series.
Excel Saga-> See my other post.
Eden's Bowey-> This series is decent, as is popular in Japan.
Nadesico -> Excellent. Usual Big-Mecha fair, but solid character dynamics, and excellent plot line. Be sure to watch the movie as well.
Spriggin-> This will be released in theaters next year. Awesome animation, plot needs significant help.
Nadia of Blue Waters-> Classic. Jules Verne approach to Anime.
And there is always the classics as well:
Robotech -> Bastardization of three different anime series.
Nausciaa -> Pretty good. Nausciaa, Mononoke Hime, and Laputa are very very similar, both in animation and story. Of the three of them, I love Laputa. Done by Studio Ghibili.
I can hear the sea -> Very underated, excellent Ghibli anime, very different from Nausciaa, Mononoke Hime, Laptuta etc.
On your mark -> A music video done by Ghibili. Hard to get your hands on, but well worth it.
Blue Sub 9 -> Computer generated, good story, good character dynamics. All in all a very solid anime. Don't ever watch this unsubbed.
Gundam 0080/0083 -> Very good Gundam series that are released over here. Wing has been airing on TV and has done very well.
In the near future, Tenchi Muyo, Slayers, Blue Sub 9, Card Capture Sakura (which will be reneamed) and many other anime's will be on TV. Gundam wing is the most popular series ever on Cartoon Network, and Sci-Fi and CN are looking to cash in.
I have been meaning to write lain up for a long long time. After all, any anime that revolves around IPv7 needs to be mentioned.
Here is a quick list of my favorite commedy:
Excel Saga - This is about as wacky as things get. ADV has this series, so it will be a while before anyone can get it. It makes fun of Aliens, Titanic, Anime in General, Star wars etc. If you can't take large doses of suger. Don't watch this.
Slayers - Final Fantasy with a sense of humour. Very slapstick, but the second season (or series since seasons usually are not consecutive in Japan) has the best ending of any Anime I have seen.
And of course, the Usual batch: Ranma 1/2, Tenchi Muyo, Urusai Yatsura etc.
Serious Trippy Anime: Lain - Again. Need to write up a review for Slashdot.
Neon Genesis Evangelion - Rumour constantly states that MTV and Sci-Fi are trying to air this, but ADV won't let them because of the cuts they would have to make. Mix giant robots, the angst of adolecence, and a good amount of religon and philosophy. This series can be amazingly depressing, and the last two episodes need serious help, but this is literature in action.
For the more slice and dice fans, Ruroni Kenshin (also known as Samurai-X) recently was picked up. I strongly suggest the OVA series from ADV (which will be available on DVD as Samurai-X). Warning. This series is massivly gorey, and angsty, but it is the best anime I have ever seen, bar none.
Battle Athlese Victory, Tenchi Muyo, Photon, El-Hazard and Dual are the AIC "guy surrounded by many girls" anime which are very excellent as well. Some good resources for anime: Anime Web Turnpike This is the best Anime link site in general. Slayers Universe is a amazing Slayers Page. is a awesome store, which also covers anime news.

Is the stock market still hideously over-valued? Yes. Anyone who says anything different either a) has not learned from history b) is a speculator or c) Bought LNUX at $320.
I do think that we are seeing the formation of a American Empire (which would account for the fact that everyone else's economic systems are in the tank, while we panic about a stock market that is _still_ above 10k.). This is IMHO, worthy news for Slashdot to cover.

Further, do you think that self regulation is still effective even w/ games such as Q3 and Half Life? (Or do you even think that there should be self regulation?)
You run into some severe problems with NIS+ and NFS. Don't use them if you can get away with it. To wit:
Linux's NFS still has problems. If you need NFS use BSD (BTW, before someone mods me down for that comment, I use linux. NFS is just not a good idea in general).
NIS is a nice idea, poorly implemented, with a lot of problems with security.
You said that there was a problem w/ CODA, and that would be what I normally use rather then NFS. There are a lot of good suggestions posted here.
For distributing information ala NIS, try taking a look at LDAP instead. I have been implementing it at a few client sites, and it works much better then NIS. (There are plugins that let GLIBC and PAM use LDAP transparently, and you can even emulate NIS).
I would definitly kill for something that could transparently create a single large namespace/disk space over a network, but with disk space so cheap, you are probibly better off going and buying a 16gb IDE drive. cheep cheep....
Having been very pro-gnome for a long time (I like the user interface much better then KDE), I have to day that I am frankly disapointed w/ the attitude that the GNOME guys (and in particular one who disagreed with ideas floating around and allready wrote:
"Anyways, I guess we are going to do what we think is correct; and you guys are going to do what you think is correct."
(If you really want to know who wrote that, read the gnome-kde list).
Wake up and smell the jolt. I am writing this on a NT 2000 box. The last thing Linux needs is for two of the small camps to be engaged in bickering. Yes.. There probibly is a better way to write something, but in the interest of "open specification and working together" deal.
Well. I am posting this from Mozilla. (It also poped up a window and saved my password while I was doing it). It's still Alpha software, but It is far closer then before. I think they just might make that release date.
Will you stop whining? Yes, KDE is nice, yes... it now has features that MacOS/GNOME /AMEIGA have had for yes, and yes, you will be spending the next 10 monthes fixing hard refenced pics, and debuggin them. Good for you.
Make it so that KDE is not such a memory and proccesor slob and I will have more respect.

Thank you for your time.
(It also poped up a window
and saved my password while I was doing it). It's still Alpha
software, but It is far closer then before. I think they just might
make that release date.
huh?
(No, I do not use GNOME)...
Will you stop whining? Yes, KDE is nice,
yes... it now has features that MacOS/GNOME
/AMEIGA have had for yes, and yes, you will
be spending the next 10 monthes fixing hard
refenced pics, and debuggin them. Good for
you.
Make it so that KDE is not such a memory and
proccesor slob and I will have more respect.
credit? As in give al gore credit? "A" for Credit. Lets face it, the only reason that he claiming that he invented the internet is that clinton allready claimed everything else.
What a liar and schmooo.
I think Tom raises good points in this article. GNU is co-opting Linux. (Anyone remember the nice little "Ignore Linux, think Hurd" moniker?
After all, 90% of all perl dists are compiled via GCC, does that mean that Perl should now be "GNU/perl?"
It does indeed come down to the free beer vs. Free speach issue.
BTW, is there a good moving BSD linux project yet? I like BSD, but am getting really tired of the splits in the BSD groups.
